The awful trend on Twitter

Hi, I don't post often, but I've seen the awful twitter trend today in regard to J K Rowling, I just feel so scared and defeated about women's rights, why are more people not up in arms and defending us? I also fear for her and women's safety, as some of these TRA's seem really unhinged.

silly jokes well, pointed jokes are Titiana’s specialty.

FloralBunting · 15/09/2020 15:34

There's a letter to the publishers from TRAs asking them to pull the book or at least begin promoting Mermaids. Shonky suicide stats a go-go.🙄

Collidascope · 15/09/2020 15:36

@Malahaha

I do have an idea how the wokesters take Twitter so seriously, though, as if it IS real. I remember a couple decades ago, when the internet first erupted into our lives, and it first became possible to chat online in forums with virtual friends. I was in my very first o forum, I think it was actually an Amazon forum, and all got a bit obsessed; it was so new, so revolutionary! We felt as if we were at the centre of the universe, and every single person on earth were watching out inane online chats, flirtations, silly jokes, squabbles, etc. We felt very clever and unique. I was old enough to know better, yet I was swept up in this feeling of being watched and read by the entire world. It was so heady! And then I woke up.

I think the Twitterati must feel a bit like this.

Add to that the fact that the papers actually report on whatever Twitter spat is playing out, or on whichever weekly witch is being burnt. The fact that the majority of newspaper readers look at JK's comments, and think, 'Yeah, nothing particularly controversial there...' is lost on them.

I hope the publishers tell them to get to fuck.

They really think the world fucking owes them, don't they?

BaronessWrongCrowd · 15/09/2020 15:42

Can't they see that they are bullying someone. This we love everyone and are oh so inclusive alphabetti spaghetti are nothing but vicious bullies. It's disgusting behaviour.

JK Rowling is made of stern stuff but others aren't.

yourhairiswinterfire · 15/09/2020 15:58

Can't they see that they are bullying someone.

They know it, they just don't care. They think they're justified because they perceive themselves to be victims of JKR's "transphobia".

It happened to Allison Bailey a couple of weeks ago. A TRA (with BLM in their bio) racially abused her. This person only had a few followers so Allison asked the followers to name the racist-they told her no, and that she basically deserved to be racially abused because of her GC views Hmm

They never see themselves in the wrong. No one else's feelings or opinions matter if they're not exactly the same as their own.

Collidascope · 15/09/2020 16:28

It's the Daenerys Targaryen complex, and the complex of every other tyrant. If other people are "bad" and you're "good" then beating down the "bad" people by whatever dubious means becomes justifiable in the aim of building this wonderful new world. It's fascinating to watch actually, in a depressing way. Really shows how you in real-time how people can be roped into this righteous and yet vicious cause and suspend all critical facilities.

I think until you find yourself on the wrong end of it, it can be very enticing. It's definitely made me think about freedom of speech etc. much more now that I'm apparently one of the bigots.

SunsetBeetch · 15/09/2020 16:38

@Collidascope

No 1 on Audible. Twitter is another world. A mad one.
TRAs can't stop shootinh themselves in the foot.
RoyalCorgi · 15/09/2020 16:40

Can't find it now, but someone on Twitter produced a list of 66 male killers who dressed as women.

Reality is transphobic.

Good point. As Tyrion says:

When she murdered the slavers of Astapor, sure noone but the slavers complained. After all, they were evil men. When she crucified hundreds of Mereeneese nobles, who could argue? They were evil men. The Dothraki Khals she burned alive? They would have done worse to her. Everywhere she goes, evil men die and we cheer her for it. And she grows more powerful and more sure she is good and right. She believes her destiny is to build a better world for everyone. If you believed that, if you truly believed it, wouldn't you kill whoever stood between you and Paradise?

Yes, and the interesting thing about that is that Tyrion's saying it after she went nuclear on King's Landing. Violence that wasn't at all in the name of necessity (they'd surrendered), but her rage in not being welcomed and hailed as the special one. There's a lot of that now. A righteous cause that just becomes the wagon for rage.

DeRigueurMortis · 15/09/2020 17:04

Just an update...I'm now 6 chapters in on the new Strike book and it's great so far!!!

No spoilers but the "case" is very interesting and different to previous books and the dynamic between Cormoran and Robin has shifted awkwardly.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 15/09/2020 17:09

The awful trend on Twitter
SoManyActivities · 15/09/2020 17:26

Totally off topic, but how is Robbie Coltrane 70?

Also, JEDWARD calling for the burning of her books? 2020 just gets crazier and crazier!

SoManyActivities · 15/09/2020 17:28

That Paris Lees thread about how JK Rowling is responsible for the murder of Brazilian trans women (WTF?) does have a fair few tweets defending JKR.

Collidascope · 15/09/2020 17:29

Perhaps rather than burning it, they could study it and try to grasp how punctuation is used.

littlbrowndog · 15/09/2020 17:29

I quite badly sniggered when I read the jedward tweet Wink

MarshaBradyo · 15/09/2020 17:30

Poor woman. So violent to constantly harass her in this way.

SoManyActivities · 15/09/2020 17:31

Well Troubled Blood is now number 1 on Audible, Kindle and Books, so Jedward are making Joanne an absolute mint! 😂

SerenityNowwwww · 15/09/2020 17:33

Audible - hahahahaha. Ha.

Jedwood (what are they for?) - ah yes, those literary geniuses... I’d definitely do whatever they say.
