Bunburying into Autumn (Bunbury 6)

Bit like blackberrying, with added derailment, sealioning and general JAQ-ing off. I'll copy and paste the opening post of the last thread.

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

Remember there are people out there who would like to silence us by fair means or foul.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3944572-Bunburys-guide-to-community-disruptors-part-5?pg=40

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links can be found in the ‘Break it Down for me’ and ‘It never happens’ threads but in essence FermatsTheorem recommended “that in the absence of a block/hide poster button, I suggest the following strategy (given that you're talking to the lurkers).

Do not name check the sealion. Instead, respond to a depersonalised paraphrase:

"It is sometimes erroneously suggested that blah. Blah is wrong for the following reasons (short and pithy). If you need more information re. debunking blah, here's a link."

Then (this next step is important to combat derailment) go back up thread to the last useful contribution to the discussion, make sure you do name check that contributor, and pick up the discussion from that point.”

Go well Witches gin

I've got those marked on my card too, Kit - we're neck-and-neck here. Just waiting for "be kind" before I shout "House!"

Albus, cut puff pastry into squares, add a bit of marzipan, slices of pear and glaze wth apricot jam and lemon rind on top (I'm sure orange rind would work too). Bake for a few minutes until golden. Very delicious.

AlbusSirius is it this one? A little undercooked, you could certainly describe it as having a puddingy texture.

@AlbusSirius

How long does the gin take nachthexe - and can you start with cheapo gin? My dad has a couple of bottles I could acquire, but it's not expensive nice gin, and it's a few years old so past it's best.

Actually, does gin go off? I reckon you lot will know Grin

Definitely cheapo gin - I thought dh was going to have a coronary as I didn’t. He stopped whining once he tasted it though Grin I usually figure you need a good few weeks - middle of October for Christmas? Ish?
I can attestate that it does not go off. In my house. Grin
The Paralympic thread was deleted before I even saw it. Grr.

@DianasLasso

Thanks Erish. (That is pretty much what I'm doing... might have to unsubscribe from the discussion group temporarily.)

Give me sloe gin recipes and cake recipes to talk me down please, people.

That's exactly what I'd do, and if everyone followed suit for a while, might have an impact. Don't know what the set up is but how did they get to lead the group?

It was while I was lurking on these boards that I found out about the thing that doesn't exist. Then suddenly a lot of pieces fell into place very quickly.

It worked for me - I am now very interested in those three letters and soon everyone I meet will be too.

Same poster, new zombie thread revival.

Thanks, Humpty! I've added a little bit. Feeling a bit disconsolate with it all today. Women just get silenced so often.

Info please. If I have anything to post, I usually go and do a search to see if there's already a thread. I have seen just recently lots of 'old threads' and also Zombie alert. How would I know the difference?

highame · 15/09/2020 15:02

Sorry, doesn't make sense. How would I know which were threads someone was reviving because they we're adding information to and were valid

The context of the new post is usually clear. And some are legit updates which you can tell. Some are goady though.

Not leading it, Highame, just totally monopolising it so that no-one else can get a word in edgeways. Fortunately the discussion seems to have moved on to other pastures. I have been busy at work (good) and confining most of my internet browsing on my breaks to cute cats (also good).

Hm... just noticed an oldish thread apparently randomly resuscitated. It was a couple of months old and specifically about some bbc program that day. The nature of the bumping post makes me think someone may have searched for a particular term which apparently has suddenly become unacceptable and may be deletable.

Report
ErrolTheDragon · 17/09/2020 09:26

And... not 100% sure but I think the thread I was referring to may indeed have been deleted now. Hmm

Be careful of novelty pasta. Who the heck goes around digging out old tins of it though?

Report
FloralBunting · 17/09/2020 09:30

I suspect it was deleted because noticing why threads are bumped and mentioning it to warn others who may not be aware fits into a very broad definition of troll hunting. As, I imagine, does Bunbury. Bad, naughty women.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/09/2020 09:41

I don't think there's a bar on discussing methodology and motivation in general, as opposed to accusing specific individuals.

Report
Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/09/2020 09:44

I think certain subjects, even without reference to individuals as very likely to be deleted for "generalisation".

Report
FloralBunting · 17/09/2020 09:50

Errol, I think that's an optimistic assessment on your part, but I am not known for being sunny myself.

So, to recap:

One cannot generalise or be specific.

Got that.

Report
GazookGaboot · 17/09/2020 10:21

Was that my fault? I did just make an observation, no specifics. However the deletion notice mentioned many deleted posts, which I had not noticed when I commented.

Report
FloralBunting · 17/09/2020 10:33

There were only about 10 comments on it to begin with before it was bumped, all intact. When I posted my post was 20, and maybe 24 ish. A few minutes later, it had gorn.
