Bunburying into Autumn (Bunbury 6)

Bit like blackberrying, with added derailment, sealioning and general JAQ-ing off. I'll copy and paste the opening post of the last thread.

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

Remember there are people out there who would like to silence us by fair means or foul.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3944572-Bunburys-guide-to-community-disruptors-part-5?pg=40

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links can be found in the ‘Break it Down for me’ and ‘It never happens’ threads but in essence FermatsTheorem recommended “that in the absence of a block/hide poster button, I suggest the following strategy (given that you're talking to the lurkers).

Do not name check the sealion. Instead, respond to a depersonalised paraphrase:

"It is sometimes erroneously suggested that blah. Blah is wrong for the following reasons (short and pithy). If you need more information re. debunking blah, here's a link."

Then (this next step is important to combat derailment) go back up thread to the last useful contribution to the discussion, make sure you do name check that contributor, and pick up the discussion from that point.”

Go well Witches gin

@AlbusSirius

I see that (unsurprisingly) we are not allowed to criticise webchat guests

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4017762-Very-disappointing-from-Laura-Bates-Everyday-Sexism-Project

I will be completely ignoring any further MN webchats. I'm going to assume that no questions from FWR posters will ever be answered.

I started that thread, no email about the deletion either Angry and I see our questions on site stuff are still being ignored.

I gave up on webchat guests after the John McDonnell " what is your favourite biscuit" shambles. Yes, I saw the site stuff questions ignored. I'm not shuffling off in my slippers though, I'll have to be chucked off.

As for anything to do with Women and Mental Health outside it's own little box on MN. Whatever Nurse Ratchet says, goes. ( Very like the old movie)

I'm disappointed with MN, but no longer surprised. It's a business, I keep reminding myself of that.
Full of NAMALT on the period thread. Have these people nowt better in their lives? Clearly not. Sad, but MN is losing it's way and morphing into something else.

Always heartened by the company of the good and insightful Women here however, that's why I keep looking in. Thanks for keeping me going Flowers

ooh cannot be too aggressive... its the smack of the salt against the sweet of the jam which makes the taste sensation!

Two years ago I made the blackberry and Apple gin posted on here. Or, technically, I made the children make it. I mean, I provided the ingredients and mason jars and printed the recipe and everything. They were unimpressed by my parental ethics that deemed concocting alcoholic deliciousness to be suitable for minors.
I did let them try it at Christmas. It was amazeballs. I think I did make the Christmas pudding vodka one year. Given that I can’t quite remember, I suspect that was quite good too.

I couldn't find a reply to my easy "yes" or "no" question; I was very disappointed.

Would you share the gin recipe please?

I gave up on MN web chats ages ago - it is quite clear that only superficial and trivial questions will be tolerated from women.

Bunbury was Oscar Wilde, not GBS - but I agree, cancel culture is running somewhat rampant at the moment.

I am looking forward to the wokesters campaign against breakfast cereal, when they work out how-anti-sex Dr Kellogg was. And, in particular, his obsession with the evils of masturbation. Since a substantial number of the TRA types appear to run their tiny-terrorisms with one hand, the cornflake fallout ought to be epic.

This is probably it... there is possibly a more poncetastic version but this is entirely adequate for all wintry evening needs. @ThePankhurstConnection

How long does the gin take nachthexe - and can you start with cheapo gin? My dad has a couple of bottles I could acquire, but it's not expensive nice gin, and it's a few years old so past it's best.

Actually, does gin go off? I reckon you lot will know Grin

Report
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 14/09/2020 10:33

Cheap gin is just as good as expensive (better than the ones with all the extra infusions and herbs, which just confuse the tastebuds) unless it is Tesco cheapest, which is paintstripper really.

Something between six and twelve weeks is suggested as a rule but you have to taste it to be sure -- oooh the hardship.

Does gin go off? I've never given it a chance to, so I have no idea.

In WWII, the intelligence community used to carry out "Traffic analysis" - the idea was that even if you couldn't read enemy coded message, simply seeing a spike in numbers of transmissions from a certain area gave you useful information.

In the same way (as Datun has noted in the past I think), seeing what it is we are not allowed to talk about can be quite informative.

I should have started a thread about how Meghan Markle is the anti-christ. We could have torn her to shreds for several hundred pages without interruption, no matter how specific and personal we were.

Well if something doesn't exist you can't have people talking about it, otherwise people might think that it does in fact exist.

Diana, you're quite right. It's like a cloak of invisibility, you can't see it but you can see what's not there, being allowed.
