Update on my case, and on exactly how much Girlguiding is spending of their money

As a charity. On fighting a volunteer concerned about safeguarding who doesn't believe in inner gender essence.

The explanation is in the next post because it's long and tedious but the answer is "at least £35,000 and probably more like £100,000".

We are a tiny unit. I pay my own census, as does the other leader. We are also parents within our unit and pay full subs. Obviously other units do whatever they have to do in their circumstances.

NotAGirl · 24/07/2020 23:57

Graphista if you go onto the crowdjustice site and search for 'Katie Alcock' you'll find the details for donations and yes every donation will help. If you've not donated through crowdjustice before they ask for voluntary donations to their running costs and default I think to 10%. They do extremely well by doing this and you can change your voluntary donation to them to be 0.

NotAGirl · 24/07/2020 23:59

Katie, well done on this first victory. I've donated and will again as you need more money.

Since Allison Bailey's case, I always make sure to not include the extra tip now.
Mummyoflittledragon · 25/07/2020 03:02

Thank you Katie. Good luck with the case. I was writing on your other thread and tried to post but it had disappeared. Have pledged some money to your cause.

Lamahaha · 25/07/2020 05:46

Should I be wrong and the worst happen we're here for you. You're not alone. There are thousands, hundreds of thousands, of us behind you and together we can raise the money you need.

This. I dug before and I'll dig again.

VickyBHF · 25/07/2020 06:42

@NotAGirl thanks for this. @KatieAlcock I have donated. Well done

SophocIestheFox · 25/07/2020 07:25

That sounds like a good start for your claim, Katie. Have chucked a donation your way, good luck with the next phase!

GilderoyLockdown · 25/07/2020 07:47

@Saxa23, could you please confirm if you actually know where the money GG are spending on legal costs is coming from? Because you told OP in your first post that it wasn't subs, but then your subsequent posts suggest you aren't actually aware yourself. And if you do know and it isn't subs, what is funding the case?

KatieAlcock · 25/07/2020 08:22

I know there are units that do this, but I personally have never known one to do this, and many of the ones near me would close if they did this as leaders can't afford this.
So all the census money comes from parents generally. Though in a way it's worse if GG are spending volunteers' own money. At least girls don't have to hold a gender identity of girl to join.

KatieAlcock · 25/07/2020 08:31

Also I do think it's a bit off to close my thread and not tell me. Is it worth me asking them to explain? "Lots of complaints" doesn't really seem like a good reason, if it's just a pile on.
I'd also really like a couple of posters to substantiate their accusations (on the other thread). Or just withdraw them.

OP posts:
BaronessBollyKnickers · 25/07/2020 08:39

Who is in charge at GG?

Who will have had to agree to spend all that money on a court case?

KatieAlcock · 25/07/2020 08:47

The CEO I imagine.
It won't be any of the volunteer roles like Chief Guide.

BaronessBollyKnickers · 25/07/2020 08:51

So if they lose the case (and all that money is wasted) she'll have to go? You'd think?

Tootsweets23 · 25/07/2020 08:51

I am just astounded. £100,000 not to defend the rights of girls but to remove them! This is just so mad it is hard to get your head around it. Shows that believing in gender wooooo can totally addle the brain. Even if they lose or reverse this policy the damage is done, none of the leadership or trustees can be entrusted to safeguard the interests of girls. Only a total clear out will reset the organisation.

MissMarplesHandbag · 25/07/2020 08:51

I didn’t know about your case @KatieAlcock. Thank you for the update. Glad to hear it went well in court, and I’ve just pledged to your crowdfunder. Good luck.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 25/07/2020 09:06

@MannymanMunroe

saxa23 I don't know what your agenda is, but unless you know of magical porridge pot churning out legal funds at GGUK headquarters, the money for this litigation is coming out of census money. Please don't insult the intelligence of people like me - a Unit Leader and a solicitor - unless you have knowledge to the contrary that you are willing to share.

Katie, I've just discussed your update with DH (seriously shit hot litigation lawyer). We both deal with litigants in person on a regular basis, and find it astonishing that GGUK would argue the direct/indirect discrimination point on your claim form, filed when you were unrepresented, when the particulars make it clear that your claim is for indirect discrimination. However, I imagine that whoever is dealing with this on the other side is taking instructions from insurers. I wonder if they are worried about a floodgate of similar cases and are trying anything to nip yours in the bud.

I suspect your point about insurers and floodgates is on the money.

Katie Thank you. Big organisations trying to out-lawyer individuals is not good for society, especially women and girls. Thank you for standing up to them.

Tootsweets23 · 25/07/2020 09:22

It is extraordinary for them to continue this route considering the volume off problems in this area regarding kids. Whether it is the Tavistock, the Kiera Bell case, the noises from government. It is so clear that they shouldn't have touched this with a 10 foot barge pole and instead of using a new CEO to clear the decks they've doubled down. Moronic.

ItsLateHumpty · 25/07/2020 09:26

Thank you Katie. Star

The stress and paperwork and admin must be immense.

A little dig to help support you is easy in comparison.

KatieAlcock · 25/07/2020 09:33

I've asked MN why the other thread has gone.
I have previously had a thread in here and on AIBU so that in itself isn't a problem.

You'll be waiting a while for that. Accusations of transphobia made by people who can't possibly be expected to substantiate them are very common on here.
RufustheRowlingReindeer · 25/07/2020 09:38

Even if you are only allowed one thread katie (and i agree that in the past MNHQ have allowed two) you should be allowed to agree which one goes

Completely agree. And showing up mob handed with a bunch of high flying lawyers? It looks so bad.

As people have pointed out, it's David and Goliath and Erin Brockovich rolled into one.

Plus, it's now absolutely guaranteed to hit the newspapers. Win or lose the whole country will know the girl guides are allowing boys to sleep in the same tents as girls, and deliberately withholding that info from parents.

Tootsweets23 · 25/07/2020 09:47

Exactly @Datun - GG have lost no matter which way the case goes. I hope they lose bigly but even if they don't they are dead in the long run as they are the pretendy girls organisation that actually centres men and boys. Who wants their girl in that environment?

Grumblyberries · 25/07/2020 09:50

At least girls don't have to hold a gender identity of girl to join.

I thought this was part of the problem? That girls who wanted to identify as boys were managed out and told Guides was not for them? That's one of the aspects I thought was a real shame, as Guides used to be a good place for girls who enjoyed some non-typically-feminine pursuits to flourish. (Not always; I know Brownies in particular also had the reputation of being for good little cleaning, baking, home-making girls, but Guides and beyond at least used to include a lot of 'girls can do anything' stuff as well)
