So disappointed to see this on FB and Twitter today, issued by Extinction Rebellion UK.
What science is it we're meant to be following?
Which truth are we telling again?
I really thought they'd do better than this.
Until this afternoon mods appeared to be deleting comments questioning the statement, but this evening some dissenting voices have been left to stand, at least for now.

Extinction Rebellion offers our unconditional support and solidarity to all trans people in the face of unrelenting attacks from Trans-Exclusionary-Radical-Feminists, the media, elected politicians, and even from leading voices within the environmental movement.

We do not believe that the existence of trans people, or the clearly documented oppression and abuse they experience is a topic that should be up for debate.

Trans women are women.
Trans men are men.

Ultimately, transphobic rhetoric legitimises both structural and personal violence against trans people.

Game over for me I think, even though I've been pretty involved with them. Much of the radical environmental movement has been taken over by identity politics, which I can't get my head around... denying the material reality of women's oppression is IMO as unscientific as climate change denial. I've decided to shift my support to Deep Green Resistance, who are unashamedly radical feminist as part of their core ethos.

No one doubts that transpeople exist. Literally no one is arguing that point. Nor is it feminists attacking them. The (fortunately) very small number of attacks that happen - much fewer than you’d expect to hear about TBH, given how inherently unsafe all male spaces are to them, apparently - are 99% at the hands of men.

Disagreeing that someone should have the privilege of entering spaces reserved for the opposite sex is not hate, denying or invalidating anyone’s existence, literal violence or any of the other hyperbolic buzz phrases TPAs like to bandy about. One day these young zealots are going to grow up and burn with shame at how they misused language, logic and - ironically - science.

Ask them how the animals they're doing keen to save would fare if they were unable or unwilling to distinguish between sexes.

Same issue as the Greens: if you go about spouting stuff which is so obviously nonsense, why should anyone believe what you say about climate change either?

I dont think they are particularly left.

They are predominantly white middle class who seem bored with their suburban lives, and once they found their young children got all caught up in the Greta Thunberg MSM fanzine, indulged in affirmative parenting and started chauffering their little darlings around for selfie revolutionary pics. And gushing to the media about how brave they were to face the possibililty of arrest.

And on one day this self absorbed exhibitionism totally drowned out a demo by women from the Afro-Caribbean community demonstrating against knife crime. Many of whose children are under threat of arrest just for walking down the street.

Most environmentalists that I know find them extremely embarrassing and doing more harm than good for the cause.

And of course affirmative parenting means telling their little darlings who have been indocrinated in school and online that being trans and changing sex is totally possible.

Not surprising given that one of the founders of ER had some sort of vision about it whilst on an acid trip and the other denies that the Holocaust has any particular signifigance.
