So disappointed to see this on FB and Twitter today, issued by Extinction Rebellion UK.
What science is it we're meant to be following?
Which truth are we telling again?
I really thought they'd do better than this.
Until this afternoon mods appeared to be deleting comments questioning the statement, but this evening some dissenting voices have been left to stand, at least for now.
Infuriating.

📢📣🌈 TRANS PRIDE 🌈📣📢

Extinction Rebellion offers our unconditional support and solidarity to all trans people in the face of unrelenting attacks from Trans-Exclusionary-Radical-Feminists, the media, elected politicians, and even from leading voices within the environmental movement.

We do not believe that the existence of trans people, or the clearly documented oppression and abuse they experience is a topic that should be up for debate.

Trans women are women.
Trans men are men.
Non-binary and all other gender expressions which do not conform to the gender that person is assigned at birth are valid, legitimate, and true.
This is not up for debate.

Ultimately, transphobic rhetoric legitimises both structural and personal violence against trans people.

We state loudly and clearly: Trans liberation is intrinsic and inseparable from the liberation of all of humanity. Trans comrades are at the front and centre of our struggles, and long may they remain so.

Take action on July 4th

My duties very involved with XR, but is also strongly GC, so I wonder how she will respond.

VanGoghsDog · 29/06/2020 00:31

Sigh - my sister!

ComeBy · 29/06/2020 00:33

Interesting about obscuring the black woman’s protest.

They really pissed of the youth of S London by sending a bouquet of flowers to Brixton police station with a gushing letter about how lovely and professional the police were in arresting them... and then letting them go home to their nice white middle class mummies and daddies without charge.

Some young Black people are now planning what they see as a more inclusive climate change campaign aimed at young people.

Meghan Murphy has a very interesting interview with M K Fain, who was a radical animal rights activist. Gender ideology first came to her notice when she was told that she couldn't refer to female animals. By her account, animal-rights activists (in USA) became far more interested in transgenderism than with animals. She went on to create Spinster:

I'd be saying
Ok, Im sure that you're upset when bigots people don't believe you, perhaps it's time for bed now. Would you like to have teddy in with you or can you manage without zir tonight.
I always thought that the whole movement was suspect. It's good to have the confirmation.

DeRigueurMortis · 29/06/2020 00:43

What a surprise Hmm.

What happened to organisations/lobby groups etc staying in their own lane and focusing on what their core message/brand is?

Why is there this need to embrace other causes?

You simply risk alienating people who might agree with your overall brand/premise etc through virtue signalling side issues.

Big corporations wind me up the most though if I'm honest.

All the money they spend on "morality marketing" would be a damn site better spent on things like better maternity (and back to work support) packages, apprenticeships and training to increase diversity for both women and BAME individuals especially at senior management levels, donations to support vulnerable children living in poverty etc

Destroyedpeople · 29/06/2020 00:43

It's very suspect. Dreadful people.

prolefeed · 29/06/2020 00:44

My XR mates are long term career activists in middle age, whose XR action is a sort of busman’s holiday from greenpeace. I have a soft spot for activists who Are so committed they put their entire lives (partners/ kids) on the line for the cause. They are bonkers (and I have a softer spot for their abandoned families) but ya gotta admire commitment.
Some stuff I agree with. Some I don’t.
This makes me want to bang their silly heads together.

Agrona · 29/06/2020 00:44

In this rather dramatically phrased talk about struggles it would be worrying to be placed front and centre. During battles isn’t this the area the opposing forces target first, or am I once again missing the point?

GulliBelle · 29/06/2020 00:47

Desperately seeking attention. XR is so 2019.

DeRigueurMortis · 29/06/2020 00:50

As a side note, can anyone educate me on the green credentials of the Big Pharma companies that sell puberty blockers and cross sex hormones to the NHS?

SerenityNowwwww · 29/06/2020 00:53

They are a bunch of bloody idiots.

We had to wade through them during their London campouts whilst they banged their drums and pissed everyone off because, y’know they were saving the world. That’s when they weren’t doing performance-arsery dressed like the backing singers of doctor and the medics, wafting along, fart in a trance like and being massive pains in the arses (and making me have to walk bloody miles for a hospital appointment).

Bunch of self absorbed arses? Who’d’ve thought it?

So how exactly are they planning on saving the planet then - science or bloody magic unicorn farts?

Destroyedpeople · 29/06/2020 01:19

Ayahuasca or DMT I think. Or spiking the water table with acid. Not that I am suggesting that happened. But that's about their level.

eaglejulesk · 29/06/2020 01:31

Doesn't surprise me, I always thought they were a bunch of idiots.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 29/06/2020 01:59

They’ve missed their mark. Research shiws over and over again, that educating and empowering women and girls, reduces populations and supports conservation.

It’s why the Jane Goodall foundation funds girl’s education (news.janegoodall.org/2017/03/31/believe-in-girls-by-investing-in-girls/), and programs like the Akashinga have been so successful, (www.iapf.org/akashinga/).

Women’s reproductive health, healthy children and sources of income to support and educate those children are absolutely vital to conservation efforts. By denying the reality of women and girls, ER are shooting their efforts in the foot.

Wankers, wankers everywhere.

Dicotyledon · 29/06/2020 02:03

Those are the nuts who thought a good way to support nature is by digging up grass?

Eveta · 29/06/2020 04:40

XR have been like this for a long time. Bunch of idiots.

Notthefutureyet · 29/06/2020 04:52

Science isn't their strong point.

BovaryX · 29/06/2020 05:53

Not remotely surprised. Aren't ER pleased now they got their wish and global economic activity has been shut down for months? Why have they been so silent?

Pollyputthepizzaon · 29/06/2020 05:59

I already thought they were dickheads so pleased to see my judgement was correct.

ChaToilLeam · 29/06/2020 06:09

I can’t say I’m awfully surprised.

Fearandsurprise · 29/06/2020 06:45

@FannyCann

Wouldn't you think they would have enough to do with literally saving the world? I do sometimes wonder if the only logical explanation is a convoluted conspiracy to reduce world population by mass sterilisation of teens and messing with other people's sexuality such that reproduction is unlikely.
Maybe it is part of their focus on reducing world population.

I heard a speaker from Extinction Rebellion at a conference (not in the UK). Their strongest message was that having children had the biggest impact on people’s carbon footprint, far bigger than taking flights, or eating meat etc.

If I recall correctly, the Green Party in the UK used to push for active population control.

EmpressLangClegSpartacus · 29/06/2020 06:53

So the more sterilised children the better?

I feel like you, WarmthandDepth. I supported XR when they started out because I agree we need real action now. I’ve been involved in environmental causes all my adult life, for decades, but we’re closer to destroying our world than ever. One of my friends is active in XR and believes the urgency outweighs everything else. I see her point, though I no longer agree with all XR’s actions.

This XR trans thing depressed me when I first read it, because I thought it showed what a chokehold trans ideology has got on current politics. Black Lives Matter has a similar declaration on its website. Women are so disposable - I typed “despisable” by mistake, but that’s also true. We are so unimportant that anything outweighs our needs.

And I am now realising the trans ideology may not be widespread at all — it just seems huge because it’s so loud and aggressive. To angry people who want to overturn the apple cart, it’s another big bold gesture. It’s something you can yell at people. (Politicians and organisations give in because they don’t want trouble. In fact that probably sums up most of TRAs’ apparent support.)

In fact, oh god — it’s about being teenagers. The grown-ups have gone away. I remember how exciting rebellion looked when I was that age. “I love the sound of breaking glass”.

A shame XR is dumping half of its potential sympathisers. But I suppose its actions now attract more kids who are in it for the thrills than staunch environmentalists like my friend.
