Andrea Dworkin wrote: ‘Men often react to women’s words—speaking and writing—as if they were acts of violence; sometimes men react to women’s words with violence.’ It isn't hateful for women speak about their own experiences, nor do they deserve shaming for doing so. 8/9*

Have truer words ever been spoken?!
How does this have to been said in this century?!

Agreed. That’s one hell of a powerful quote!!
Helmetbymidnight · 28/06/2020 18:28

she's awesome.

just watching the tras unable to say anything except 'shut up terf' is an incredible sight.

mum2jakie · 28/06/2020 18:28

She's such an inspirational woman. It's an embarrassment that we need to describe her as 'brave' - purely for stating basic biological facts. This world is a seriously messed up place at times.

gamerchick · 28/06/2020 18:29

Stephen king has retweeted and is getting grief for doing it. He's 'on notice'. Be nice to see big authors standing by her side if he sticks to it.

BigBadVoodooHat · 28/06/2020 18:30

It's absolutely a test for Starmer and if he has any sense he'll take this gift to remove yet another Corbyn Clone from the shadow front bench.

I really, really do hope so. I’ll be disgusted if the Labour Party sidesteps such a shameful, hateful statement after all their recent misogynistic bullshit.

wildone84 · 28/06/2020 18:30

So pleased that us women have JK Rowling fighting in our corner.

Sorry for posting something a bit off topic...but does anyone have any more information about Amazon's collaboration with Mermaids? I saw something about it yesterday on Mumsnet but accidentally clicked away before I had time to read. I have Googled it and found nothing.

I am an author who sells books via Amazon but if they are collaborating with Mermaids I will need to stop selling my books there. If anyone knows anything please let me know.

@Michelleoftheresistance

Oh my fucking stars. There is a black woman on that thread talking to JK who has been 'frequently' accused of leveraging her experience and trauma FGM 'to be transphobic'.

Frequently.

Just when I think I've seen the worst and ugliest depths of this political movement and it's utter inability to care for anyone or anything but self, it happens again.

I do lots of work with FGM campaigners and support groups because of my work (midwifery) and they get so much abuse from TRAs and general misogynists. Everything from suggesting renaming it to “forced” genital mutilation because it happens to trans boys and non binary people, to men arguing circumcision is worse than FGM. I had no idea how bad it was until I got involved. I thought it would be the odd comment here and there but it happens EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
TheSingingKettle49 · 28/06/2020 18:32

I think Stephen King is one of the few authors to have sold as many books as JKR so he‘a another one who can afford to do as he likes, a few more like him and other less wealthy celebs will be able to come forward.

BigBadVoodooHat · 28/06/2020 18:32

Stephen king has retweeted and is getting grief for doing it. He's 'on notice'. Be nice to see big authors standing by her side if he sticks to it.

Let’s hope so - surely he’s of similar (if not greater) means and stature as JKR, so should easily swat aside threats of being ‘cancelled’ by the Twitter wokerati 🤞

Funguy · 28/06/2020 18:33

Millionaires usually can say whatever they want. The number of weeping people is admirable though.

viques · 28/06/2020 18:33

@BigBadVoodooHat

Brilliant that Russell Moyle issued an apology

I saw a frantic, arse-covering attempt at mitigation, but not much in the way of actual apologetic sentiment or acknowledgment of why what he said was wrong. 🤷‍♀️

He’s a man in fear of losing his job who has asked for the evidence of his misogyny to be removed from public view. Pathetic coward.

Exactly. And didn't even have the decency ,as Rowling pointed out, to tag her into the apology or contact her directly.

He really is a pathetic excuse for a human being.

I have emailed Starmer and said that since he acted so decisively re Long-Bailey who re tweeted someone else's remarks then surely he should act just as decisively re someone who sat down and deliberately wrote such a spiteful and demeaning article.

As the mumsnet mantra goes, when someone shows you what a dick they are then believe them. I didn't put that bit in my email btw.

mum2jakie · 28/06/2020 18:33

Praying Steven King is a decent and reasonable human being, as well as being a great writer. Please don't throw women under the bus...

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 28/06/2020 18:33

What really needs to happen, is for workers in women’s refuges, women’s prisons, women’s rape crisis centres to come out and publicly support her. We also need doctors to publicly declare that sex is definite and the potential risks of ignoring that fact.
I previously worked for a domestic violence charity and know so many ex-colleagues who are terrified of how this will end but are more terrified to lose their jobs.
Before I worked in DV, I worked in secondary schools in Rotherham and there was (Still is) a similar conflict between moral compass and keeping your job.
Women who have used these facilities are not listened to, mocked or called hysterical. Similar to the girls who were groomed in Rotherham. We need the professionals to be brave and be honest.

AskingforaBaskin · 28/06/2020 18:36

I'm fan girling a bit now.
Stephen King and Jk are my all time favourite authors. And they are fighting for women's right.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 28/06/2020 18:41

What a wonderful WOMAN!!!!!

SebandAlice · 28/06/2020 18:43

Love JKFlowers

Siablue · 28/06/2020 18:44

She is one of the Labour Party’s biggest individual donors . If I were her I wouldn’t give them a single pence as long as that little turd was in office.

ComDummings · 28/06/2020 18:46

She’s so classy.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 28/06/2020 18:46

She's amazing. Utterly amazing. You can't see me, JK, but I am standing up and applauding. Flowers

LastRoloIsMine · 28/06/2020 18:46

Wow.

She is amazing.

Sad to see so many tweets staying their own sexual or violent assaults but it just shows who is the oppressed and who is the oppressor.

terryleather · 28/06/2020 18:48

Fucking hell she's good, and quoting Dworkin too....

Sushiroller · 28/06/2020 18:50
