This is quite the article from UnHerd; It seems to be putting the responsibility to prevent a future of terrorism on women settling.

My synopsis of the article

• Vikings were raiders, who were driven to such behavior due to a lack of women.
• China and India may be facing a similar problem due to sex selective births leading to an excess of men.
• The west is also facing a similar problem due to women unwilling to marry down in an ever equal society. This leaves a sub group of men who aren't getting any.
• Incels make enthusiastic terrorists (ISIS recruits being promised wives / slaves).
• Preventing this is a feminist issue

It would make more sense for a woman in that situation to hire someone to do childcare that they wouldn't have to negotiate with.

I tend to be very put off by macho types and I'd still rather have a Viking than an incel in that at least the Viking might have some sort of skill and thus be useful to have about the place. Wouldn't really consider shouting at people on a Discord server about how women are evil while gaming a useful skill...

Why are there no women on their level?

As I recall, the Vikings didn’t run out of women; they ran out of (productive) land.

Obviously those men couldn't possibly try and ask out those women of lower status, only sexually harass them on the street.

But it’s surely possible to discuss the political and social problem of spare men without believing that the solution is to force unwilling women to have kids with them.And addressing this problem should absolutely be seen as a feminist project. Being consigned to a life of hopeless, low-status singledom makes men more violent, sexually dangerous and politically disruptive.

SO how should we solve it?

Couldn't men just not be arseholes? Have we given up entirely on that possibility?

I have a couple of friends who've done this. They do the lion's share of the drudgery, all the shopping and all the thinking. I have never yet met a lower earning male partner who takes responsibility for all home admin in the way that lower earning women do.

I house shared with a man who turned out to be an incel (and turned the other man in that direction, too).

He hit ion every woman who moved in. You could sense it. Started to get controlling over where people had been. Did feck all cleaning but tried to deman the other peoples cleaning wasn't up to his standards. Tried to 'train' us. Had a shocking temper and victim complex. Had mysterious back problem caused by one leg being shorter than the other although teh NHS didn't believe this so he had to go to a Harley St doctor (who also didn't agree). Real 'man of the people' type. Hated the educated and the privileged but forced his gran into a care home to sign over her house to him before she died so he could get the money now and got a significant inheritance.

Overweight, poor diet, an obsession with his own flatulence, lazy, no skills/qualifications or significant work history. Told a pack of lies about everything.

Started going out to Thailand on his own for 'the sun'. Came back each time with more outrageous behaviour. Moved out there two years ago and married his new Thai girlfriend.

Apparently very happy.

I give up. These men can buy what they want.

Joking aside, historically wars often filled exactly this function... Unfortunately a lot of nice men tended to get killed in the process too, and the knock on effects on the civilian populations - including women and children - tended to be disastrous.

But it is interesting how many people - even female writers - default to "men have a problem and it's mummy's women's job to fix it."

My impression is that many men call themselves 'incels' when what they actually mean is that they can't get a woman of the type (i.e. young, slim, attractive) they want and think they deserve.

I'm not sure you can compare what's gone on in places like China with places like the UK or US.

There is some good evidence that at a society level, if you have a big pool of young men with no hope of a partner, it's destabilising. They are just sitting there stewing waiting to form an army or something. But the obvious solution for a country like China seems to be don't abort girls so your population balance is all wacky.

I was sitting outside Covent garden tube station waiting for a friend a few years ago. I noticed a man start to walk up to women and back down. he would go back to another man who he was with and chat for a few seconds and start again. Eventually, he approached a woman I can only describe as a supermodel. She was, as could be expected in CGarden, a tourist. He asked for her number and she declined, nicely.

What was very obvious to me was that this man was expecting a complete stranger to give her number (when this does happen, it is usually a false number, no?)

He was considerably older and dressed and appeared in a way that wouldn't ring alarm bells but would make you think something feels odd here.

These are n't reflections on who he might be deep down but if a man like that feels he is being rejected for who he is rather that what he is doing , that is the real problem.

I think it is a strike rate for these guys - if they can ask out a beautiful woman and take the rejection then thay can ask out Doris in accounts where actually it is real, but then another part of me says no, they are actually that deluded and think they stand a chance with Elle McPherson.

Elle McPherson is too old for them, they're expecting an 18 year old woman with model looks who they can easily control because they want power as well as a relationship/sex.

Incel my arse. Anyone who wants consensual, respectful sex with someone who broadly corresponds to their status in society can have it.

What they can't have is a lingerie model ringing their doorbell and shouting 'shag me Brian' .

FFS, if inadequate men who (despite making no effort) don’t get issued with their promised second class citizen to shag at will and also do the cooking and cleaning, they will turn berserker mad bastards and when they do it is women’s fault is a bit of a fucking leap.

Perhaps the incels could learn a thing or two from the Vikings. Viking men were physically fit, took great pride in their appearance and personal hygiene, had skilled jobs, women could own their own property and get a divorce and had legal protection from mistreatment and unwanted attention from men....can you see where you're going wrong incels?

Perhaps we could crowd fund some day trips to Jorvik to help them out?
