Never posted on this board before, but nervous, but I’m furious.
Just bought some towels from Superdrug and the first line on the back of the packet is ‘A person who menstruates..’ I’m a woman ffs!
I shop in Superdrug all the time for their cruelty free stuff but no more!

Or here- no "stupid pink and flowery shit" in sight

Mine come in a white box with a white daisy on it. Wrapping is plain white. They use the words women and girls on their packaging/ads/website.

DidoLamenting · 19/06/2020 16:09

Tampax has always, as long as I've known, been green and blue.

I don't know where this idea, peddled by some trans activists and some feminists, that sanitary products are all pink came from. That's never been true.

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 19/06/2020 16:20

Oh and just because you personally don't like pink and floral that doesn't make them "stupid shit"

Way to pick out half my comment there! If you bothered to read the whole thing you would see I am left with only the stupid pink shit to pick from, because it’s the only easy-to-find non-allergenic one.

Fucks sake. I’m bored of all this regressive gendered shit and bored of people who attack using disingenuous selection (two almost entirely overlapping circles on the Venn diagram of internet dickheads).

Even the internal wrappers are pink floral.

This pink tampon box thing is not only a lie, but also so deluded to suggest flowers and pink aren’t for men. Lots of men including very masculine and straight men, wear pink shirts, sometimes flowery too. It’s just weird reversion to extreme gender Stereotypes just to have something to be offended about.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 19/06/2020 17:07

I've seen it on Twitter

Well it will be nice and easy to find amongst all the hundreds of other products which are not in the least bit pink or flowery.

You are still missing the point that just because you don't like pink and flowery it doesn't make it "stupid shit".

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 19/06/2020 17:16

Well, most of us find the flowery shit offensive!

How the hell is a colour offensive, what a load of tripe, sorry.
As someone pointed out, men wear pink shirts too, it is so weird to think it's just a "girly" colour - people can like whatever colour they like!
I'm allergic to a lot of stuff too (heavily scented stuff can fuck right off) but there's tons of "colours" out there suitable.
Including - Shock blue.

SerenityNowwwww · 19/06/2020 17:18

I don’t give a shit of it had bloody unicorns jumping over rainbows - if it can handle my ‘The Shining/Carrie’ level of periods, I’ll use it.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 19/06/2020 17:35

Are we saying that pink stuff isnt aimed at women?

Im all for buy what colour you like and men can like pink too...but lots of gendered products aimed at women are flowery and pink/purple etc

Like the nurafen period tablets...exactly the same as the normal stuff just more expensive and pink

I think the world would be a lot more accepting of Trans people, and Trans people would be a lot happier in themselves, if they could just admit that they are biological men who identify as women, or biological women who identify as men.

A lot of the mental issues they face is because they refuse to accept that they can never change their biology ! They can identify as whatever they want for all i care - but when they start saying that they know how the opposite sex feels or thinks and that they understand concepts such as menstruation when they don't have the equipment - is just wrong.

It is the same for a trans man who chooses to get pregnant. He has to admit he is a biological woman otherwise why would a man even want to get pregnant! It wouldn't even occur to them to do so !

And companies that pander to such a thing are perpetuating the mental issues trans people face !

JoysOfString · 19/06/2020 17:57

Of course there is a big association between pink/floral and women and girls but (like most aspects of gender, which is not in fact strictly allocated by sex but much more variable) it is, even within what's considered mainstream and normal, something that is also part of male gender normals, in certain circumstances.

So my point was that being upset because you're a transman who menstruates and tampon packets are pink (leaving aside the fact that they're generally not) would be a nonsense, because there is no actual rule or norm that pink stuff is only for women. It would also of course (as per) be reinforcing an extreme version of gender stereotyping so narrow it never even existed.

DidoLamenting · 19/06/2020 18:00

Are we saying that pink stuff isnt aimed at women?

No - I am saying that the idea that all sanitary products are pink is a myth peddled by certain activists and certain feminists.

I am also saying that just because certain feminists don't like pink or flowery that doesn't make pink and flowery "stupid shit".

SerenityNowwwww · 19/06/2020 20:28

There’s a petition to ask Body Shop to stop calling women menstruators. Not sure if anyone has seen it. Don’t think I can post it on here but I have the URL.

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/06/2020 22:20

Hmmm.

So I’ve just had a look at some Superdrug men’s shaving products the the men’s section of the website. All of them have the word men on them somewhere. None of the women’s products have women on them. I’ll buy that it’s for the sake of inclusivity when the men’s products are inclusive too.

Compare that to the women’s one (which I am fine with on its own but not when men get to keep the word men and women are subtly being written out)

SerenityNowwwww · 19/06/2020 22:44

Thank you - I hadn’t seen that before.

TheStuffedPenguin · 20/06/2020 07:33

So to clarify for an old fogey - the word women should not be used on sanitary products because there are women who now identify as men and they feel bad /it reminds them of this/it makes them feel uncomfortable /or what is it ?

FlamingoAndJohn · 20/06/2020 07:46

And there are men who identify as woman who don’t menstruate and therefore if we agree that trans women are women then you can’t say that women menstruate because the word women includes people who are biologically male.

However this only seems to apply to products and health services aimed at women.

See men’s razors, prostate exam posters as examples.

TheStuffedPenguin · 20/06/2020 07:58

OK - thanks for that extra bit of info.

Hotstepperrr · 20/06/2020 08:40

@thestuffedpenguin it’s as trans men are still having periods and non binary people. Therefore Superdrug feel that’s more inclusive- even though they still sell men’s razors that trans women will have to use.

SerenityNowwwww · 20/06/2020 08:45

You can buy ‘women’s’ razors but they definitely sell mens incontinence pants (they need to be a different shape to women’s ones) that are badges as MENs.

I would have thought that certain people would want to buy ‘female’ items to demonstrate their womanliness?

I have seen a male-bodied person on Instagram posting pics of a pregnancy test pondering of they were pregnant. (Spoiler - they weren’t).

Either way - women are being played.

littlbrowndog · 20/06/2020 08:49

How can that male bodied person not be pregnant

After all any person can get pregnant can’t they 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️
