Be an ally to lesbians: stop using LGBTQ+

I'm a lesbian and I mentally parted company with Stonewall and began opposing it and a lot of other LGB organisations when they added the T and then the Q and then all the other identity letters to the original LGB.

LGB people are united by same-sex attraction. TQ and whatever are linked by their insistence on identity — defining themselves by feelings or whatever. LGB people are united by their experience of homophobia. Transgenderism, and its attack on sex, is inherently homophobic. The two cannot and could never exist comfortably together. As soon as Stonewall added the T to their constituency, it began working against its core community.

Stonewall and other organisations have done this by force. Uncoupling the LGB from the TQ+ is one of the most important things anyone with a GC stance can do.

Please, let us work towards making the letters LGBTQ+ a badge of ignorance and shame, not something that employers should be plastering everywhere as proof of how progressive they are.

This is a long read but worth it if you have the time and want to understand the history behind Linda Grant's decision to grow the market for Diva to include other types of sexuality beyond same sex.

Shedbuilder · 22/06/2020 22:03

Linda Grant is a close pal of Ruth Hunt. They both followed the money.

There's no money associated with lesbians, or there hasn't been in the past. Every women's organisation that I've ever known has always hung on a financial knife edge. They've mainly survived because of the unpaid labour of volunteers. There's money to be made from transgender people. Drugs, surgery, cosmetic surgery. Ker-ching.

Were the men in the Reading attack targeted for their sexuality do we know?

Thisismytimetoshine · 22/06/2020 22:14

@TehBewilderness

Bullshit. Queer is what straight people at Uni call themselves.
When did that happen? 🤯
DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 22/06/2020 22:15

According the Daily Fail, police are currently saying that they ‘haven’t ruled out homophobia as a motive’

Horrific story. Those poor chaps, and their friends and families Flowers

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 22/06/2020 22:23

When did that happen?🤯

Some US universities have subtitled the LGB part and now refer to clubs and support services as for ‘Queer and Trans’ people.

I would not be paying $100k plus to educate my child there.

It's really notable that in order to not alienate one group (those with a gender identity) another group (homosexual men) are alienated instead, and with a term which has history of being used as a slur against that very group. I wonder how they choose which group's feelings to spare.

I bet they considered that dilemma long and hard before coming to a decision.

Those poor men. Flowers

It just goes to show that homophobia is alive and well, and that gay and lesbian people still need protection, even in the UK.

It really does.
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 23/06/2020 11:29

I am really not convinced at this point that he is either homophobic or a terrorist; his previous history seems to indicate that he is neither, just a violent man who has rotted his brain with drugs and drink overlaying a mental health problem and PTSD, and who has been in and out of prison and trouble with the police.

The eye-witness account I heard on the World Service was from a male who said that a knife-wielding nutter stabbed a lot of people in one group sitting on the ground, then went for him and his friends (who seemed to have been of both the standard human sexes) but they outran him, so he turned away from them and attacked a group with their backs to him who had not yet realised what was happening.

It may be that rather than it having been an attack targetting homosexuals, it is a horrible coincidence that the three people he killed were homosexuals who were part of the friendship group that he attacked; he seems simply to have been running amuck with a knife, for some reason not yet established but probably connected to his not being entirely sane.

BlueBooby · 23/06/2020 13:29

I believe some say the "A" in LGBTQIA+ (I think I've got that right, and am slightly amazed that I have) is for "asexual" and others say it's for "ally", and I think some say it represents both. I don't think that should be included with LGB either and have concerns about it. I think it gets overlooked because it's so navel-gazy, but I don't think it is harmless at all.

SerenityNowwwww · 23/06/2020 14:06

Agnostic?

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 23/06/2020 14:26

Someone said F was in it

And that that included friends and family...that can’t be right!

SerenityNowwwww · 23/06/2020 14:35

E for everyone?

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 23/06/2020 14:36

This is the only way to achieve full inclusivity, for sure.
