Threats from transactivists in Ireland.

irishfeminist · 14/06/2020 09:37

Just getting it out there that transactivists in Ireland have been making threats to any woman who has wanted to discuss the effect self-id is having on women's rights in Ireland. If anyone Irish is reading, you need to be aware. If you support these people, you need to know what you're supporting, and if not, you need to be aware of the threats that are being made. One of these people works for TENI and has spoken at a National Council for Women in Ireland conference.

The sheer venom from someone who campaigns for dara quigley ...anyway i am going to complain to sifi about funding a group that does

purplepizzabunny · 14/06/2020 21:44

Nt bother filing accounts and whose officials physically threaten people on t

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 14/06/2020 21:47

Estelle, if anyone threatens you, plese consider contacting the police. At least to let them know what's going on and record it. Take screenshots, or photographs, archive tweets, report them. Honestly, it is unacceptable.

purplepizzabunny · 14/06/2020 21:47

Witer. Govt money being handed over here

EstelleBirdy · 14/06/2020 21:52

Of course, that’s what most trans people are trying to do—just get on with their ordinary lives. It’s a tiny minority of people who issue violent threats or want to silence and bully people but it’s a very loud and frightening minority and they have frightened a lot of people into
complicity. Now someone who merely says that the threats of violence that they themselves issued, are unacceptable, then becomes the receiver of harassment and threats. No wonder so many people stay silent.

EstelleBirdy · 14/06/2020 22:00

I don’t expect you to have heard of me :). I wish no one had heard of me now.

Moviestar · 14/06/2020 22:43

Hi Estelle.
Im Irish. Sending you virtual hug and handhold.
Ridiculous carry on

WhatTiggersDoBest · 14/06/2020 22:54

@EstelleBirdy I am so, so sorry this has happened to you. This week has been an eye opener for me, too. I'm in shock at how nasty these people are being both to you and JKR. I'm in the North of Ireland, we are hoping to move to Wexford once the lockdown lifts enough for us to view houses, and I'm completely horrified at this small but vocal minority. Is there some way we can all support you? Do you do yoga classes online at the moment? I will buy a course of yoga lessons.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 14/06/2020 23:01

WhatTiggers

Great Idea, I would buy a yoga course too.

RuffleCrow · 14/06/2020 23:06

This is horrendous harassment @EstelleBirdy. Please take all the evidence you have to the police. I'm so angry on your behalf. No-one should have to live like this.

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 14/06/2020 23:10

Solidarity, Estelle 💐

Apileofballyhoo · 14/06/2020 23:28

Estelle I'm so sorry. The person behind that citybird account seems unwell.

irishfeminist · 14/06/2020 23:51

Yes, dirtycitybird has a long history of targeting female spaces, and no platforming anyone who dissents. Only a few years in Ireland but managed to dictate a letter ordering "UK Terfs" not to come over and get hundreds of women to sign it. H** timeline is a charmless volcano of rage and self pity, I'm baffled at the appeal myself, but Ireland is a tiny place - a handful of people can successfully influence policy if they're determined.

Also in Ireland, let me know if I can help in any way.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 15/06/2020 00:19

Did they organise that letter?I had a look at their profile, they don't seem to like women very much.

irishfeminist · 15/06/2020 00:21

Estelle can't post images as she just registered so she asked me to post these latest threats and incitement to harassment. Bear in mind that this person works for the Irish equivalent of Mermaids, a publicly funded organisation advising government bodies, state departments and educational institutions. MNHQ removed images at poster's request

Solidarity Estelle. Us Stells have to stick together. It's good to see
the Irish sisterhood in this thread

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 15/06/2020 00:33

This is disgraceful.

Snugglepumpkin · 15/06/2020 00:33

@EstelleBirdy

I reported the bad ratings on your business page on Facebook that referred to transphobia, although I might have missed a couple.
They had nothing to do with your actual business & just so happened to have turned up very recently.

I really don't understand why these people are so petty & nasty.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 15/06/2020 00:34

StellaOMalley

Love your work.
Anything that can be done? They are going way too far.

EstelleBirdy · 15/06/2020 00:38

Funnily enough, a few years ago, I had another pile on on my FB page because I posted about the protest against the attacks on Gaza. A whole load of bots and well-trained loons, mostly American, piled on and knocked my ratings. Happily, a whole posse came on and reversed their work but this time it’ll be different. I don’t even know how I access that page myself anymore. It was attached to my old FB account, since permanently deleted.

irishfeminist · 15/06/2020 00:41

Yes that person asked one of the Repeal people to do it. She boasted about it at length on Twitter. Quite the optics isn't it? After shaking off theocracy and men telling us what to do.

This is sickening.
I've had my own mini ding dong, this week, nothing near as bad.

But worrying if someone decides to connect my name to my employer- quite easy to do.

Funny enough, some employers can discipline a person for speaking facts, other employers kick back about actual threats and abusive behaviour. It's a real head scratcher.

So sorry Estelle, I hope you have someone around at home to mind you, and keep away from sm for a while

I have said it before on this site

Thank goodness the days are gone when men in dresses get to tell Mna na hEireann what to think our bodies, what they are for, and why they are wrong
