Threats from transactivists in Ireland.

Just getting it out there that transactivists in Ireland have been making threats to any woman who has wanted to discuss the effect self-id is having on women's rights in Ireland. If anyone Irish is reading, you need to be aware. If you support these people, you need to know what you're supporting, and if not, you need to be aware of the threats that are being made. One of these people works for TENI and has spoken at a National Council for Women in Ireland conference.

EstelleBirdy I cant imagine how stressful this is, if there's anything women on MN can do to help please just ask Flowers

VictoriaLucas102 · 15/06/2020 14:41

Have to say I was genuinely surprised reading the responses on this thread ... www.facebook.com/101359523241016/posts/3246807922029478/?d=n ... I wonder if people actually realise what is going on in Ireland ...

FutureCrone · 15/06/2020 14:51

Speaking as an Irish woman i can tell you people have no idea what's going on.

Fair play to you @EstelleBirdy! I hope you're keeping well, you've maintained great strength and dignity in the face of incredible vitriol. They're panicking now and attacking calm, reasonable people who other calm, reasonable people will listen to.

Kantastic · 15/06/2020 14:53

That Facebook thread is pretty good. Even the people tilting dangerously wokewards aren't having Radcliffe's nonsense.

Someone promoting the egregious misogynist "Contrapoints" - Does anyone want to learn about trans rights from an actual trans woman who makes detailed video essays on Youtube discussing the exact arguments JK Rowling, and others have been making? Good. You can't rely on internet arguments for information [!] go away, listen to people talk it out, and come back better informed.

Someone in response: no

EarlofEggMcMuffin · 15/06/2020 15:45

Even better, Kantastic they said "no" then linked to Magdalen Bern's video!

purplepizzabunny · 15/06/2020 16:21

I see Sinead O'Carroll not only made it clear she stands firmly with the TRAs' has retweeted Aoife Martin's rubbishy piece a few times, but has not bothered to condemn the abuse JK got or the Sun article. Delightful.

@FlyingOink

Ireland is trying to walk before it can run. It's a shit place for women's rights and they've shelved that fight and are trying to look woker than woke. First marital rape conviction was in 2002: link Abortion is limited to before 12 weeks and there's a three day wait between appointment and procedure, so women still travel to the UK for one: link 1932-1973 married women weren't allowed to work in the public sector, as de Valera wanted women to stay at home.and have babies. 1937-1995 divorce was illegal. Until 1976 a man could sell the family home without knowledge or permission from his wife. You couldn't buy a condom without a prescription until 1985. Symphysiotomies were carried out on women against their will because caesarians might affect future births and women were there to make babies. Some left the women unable to walk. A 17 year old girl raped in a lane has her knickers discussed in court to prove she was up for it, defendant is found not guilty: www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-46207304 Of course the case where the teenage victim later killed herself after having her knickers physically held up in court was in woke Scotland. Both countries with terrible police (PACE doesn't exist in Scotland and the Masons network there is huge in policing), terrible conviction rates, massive alcoholism and domestic violence and both countries consider themselves superior to England where at the very least the record keeping is more accurate. (Some of the countries with the lowest recorded rape rates are the most dangerous). I'm quite sick of the attitude of Irish activists. Get your own house in order first, how dare they claim to be feminists arguing for the rights of crossdressing males when the rights of females are so fragile? Why are they pretending things are hunky-dory over there?
When Ireland joined the EEC in 1973, married women should have gained the right to work in the public service. But they didn't, because Ireland secured a derogation from the equality provisions in European law for the maximum period until 1984. So that gave men 10 more years to build their careers.

1984 was the year when women were supposed to get equality in unemployment payments. But married women continued to be paid for a shorter period than men, and not to get payments for dependents. Ann Cotter and Norah McDermott sued the State and eventually won. But the Irish government refused to pay the rest of us. So we had to engage lawyers and give them a chunk of our money.

All 3 major political parties (FF, FG and Labour) took part in this trampling on women's rights. It's no wonder they're delighted to help the trans to bury our rights.

NCokokok · 15/06/2020 17:50

Sorry I didn't want to start a new thread but, does anyone know if this is a viable threat? Surely it's inciting people to harm others?

What pearls of wisdom has Aoife Martin contributed? Actually I probably don't want to know...

CumannNamBan · 15/06/2020 19:51

I'm being targetted now as well for posting about that person who was threatening women. It is heresy now to speak out against male violence. I won't post more detail for now.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 15/06/2020 21:22

VictoriaLucas102

Some great comments on that.No most people don't know they extent of what trans activists are doing and how they are threatening women.

CumannNamBan

Goes without saying but screen shot everything.Hope you have some support.
One of the people who was threatening women in has now protected their tweets.I wonder why?

bd67thSaysReinstateLangCleg · 15/06/2020 21:36

NotCursedE reveals h** sex by instructing people to endanger children. With a few notable exceptions, harming children is a male crime.

Shedbuilder · 15/06/2020 21:38

EstelleBirdy, this is dreadful. I can't imagine what you must be going through. Is there anything those of us outside Ireland can do to help?

On a wider note, as a radical lesbian feminist who has been considering a move to Ireland, I thank you for some of the information here. Lots of food for thought.

EstelleBirdy · 16/06/2020 00:00

Ireland’s a great place. Don’t let this put you off.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 16/06/2020 01:06

I just wanted to add that if anyone on this thread in Eire (north or south) loses their job or home because they were brave enough to speak the truth, and needs a job or rental reference, PM me. I run my own business and can attest to your character.

TinaTurnoff · 16/06/2020 01:19

@EstelleBirdy I am so sorry for the attack you have experienced. You have great courage and conviction. I saw your name on a @Glinner tweet, and did a double-take as I actually remember you from secondary school; you were a year ahead of me. I am delighted to read you have a novel coming out. I think we were on a school magazine committee together.

EstelleBirdy · 16/06/2020 01:46

@TinaTurnoff wow! That’s so cool. Such a small world and I’m so grateful that you’d come on here to say this. Thank you, I really appreciate it. That’s deadly that we worked on the magazine together. In all of this, what’s been amazing is the number of women who will flock to support other women, total strangers, when those women need it most. It’s been so heartening at a time that was very destabilising and frightening. I’ve had calls and messages and emails from countless women expressing solidarity, speaking of their concerns and their fears about speaking out about misogyny and threats of violence. They’re all scared and they became more scared when they saw what was happening to me for merely pointing out the frighteningly violent nature of the threats in two publicly available tweets. I was not the first to point these out, I saw others had shared them with the same abhorrence for their content. I just became the focus and when I refused to recant, they unleashed a torrent of harassment. It’s nothing compared to what other women have tolerated but I’m sure they’re not finished with me yet. I’m really so grateful to you and to all
the women on here who’ve got me through the last day. We can DM to have a chat about old times if you like? I’d love that. :)

EstelleBirdy · 16/06/2020 01:48

@WhatTiggersDoBest this is a wonderful offer for anyone who might be feeling vulnerable. Thank you.

7Days · 16/06/2020 10:35

That's very good of you Tiggers.

Jellyeggs · 18/06/2020 13:35

Name changed for this post.
Just seen a Facebook friend has posted screenshots of EstelleBirdy’s posts, with the names of any of her friends whose acquaintances liked or shared the screenshots telling their friends to out them as “terfs” to all their mutual acquaintances. It’s absolutely horrifying.

Jellyeggs · 18/06/2020 13:41

I’m at a loss for words actually. That people are being tagged for daring to be friends with someone who dared to say “I am uncomfortable with this”.

What’s particularly disturbing is that these are people I campaigned side by side with to repeal the 8th and for same sex marriage. So disappointed that we cannot raise any concerns or questions about Gender politics without our jobs and social lives being threatened.

PopcornAndWine · 18/06/2020 14:23

That's horrendous and very frightening.

7Days · 18/06/2020 17:21

On the upside, a girl at work brought the whole thing up with me.
Wokey work. Shes only early 30's. But she gets it. Most people do.

Excommunications, catholic Ireland went nowhere. I'm watching it unfolding too. It's pathetic, have they no self-reflection?
JustJayne69 · 19/06/2020 10:32

That is a form of Fascism.
