There’s a share token on the thread about the article in FWR.

OldeMagick · 14/06/2020 02:14

Thanks @boatyardblues Smile

Tim Minchin has just posted a long thread about reading things and then reading again before using Twitter.

CoffeeTeaChocolate · 15/06/2020 11:22

Sadly Tim Minchin was pressed about which author/article he was defending and then said it was Julia Baird regarding statue removals

Whatsnewpussyhat · 15/06/2020 11:23

I posted this on another thread yesterday. Although not GC, she is calling out the abuse.

Trevor Phillips.

Side note - I am still angry about how Labour has treated Trevor Phillips, and that article is a good example of why. He's one of the only politicians who I can remember from childhood who I've never lost respect for.

MissLawls · 15/06/2020 16:51

We really need some prominent young people to stand up for JKR. Doesn't matter what they're famous for but we badly need some young women under 30 to say they loved JKR as a kid reading her books and they love her even more now.

It's great so many have stood up for JKR but I don't think anyone under 30 has? Or even under 40. I'm concerned this becomes a generational thing.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/06/2020 16:52

It is a generational thing, because a great deal of effort had already been put into brainwashing kids before adults noticed.

Helmetbymidnight · 15/06/2020 17:14

and its a generational thing because the reaction can be career-destroying- no one young should have to face that.

Absolutely disgusting. It's McCarthyism. It's the Stasi. It's Soviet. It's Nineteen Eighty-Four. It's vile and it's ten thousand kinds of wrong.

JellySlice · 15/06/2020 17:20

Dana International.

Though, while supportive, didn't actually condemn the vicious responses to JKR.

That Trevor Phillips' article was fab

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/06/2020 17:32

I said it at the time but will say it again - I want no part of a Labour Party that can't find room in it for Trevor Phillips. Even if you disagree with him he's always civil and thoughtful. If there's no space for that in Labour then Labour is doomed.

I would agree with that. Being of the younger "millennial" generation I am only just now waking up to the reality. The horrific treatment of JKR was the tipping point for me. I hope other people my age also learn from all this and see that natal women are being shouted down and subdued. I never understood that the trans rights movement was anti feminist until the past week.
TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/06/2020 17:38

I hope so too, Tiggers. I don't see how most people can look at, say, the fact that trans activists were suggesting posting dick pics in the Icabog tags and not have a lightbulb moment about what kind of people they've been supporting.

YourVagesty · 15/06/2020 22:31

Good for Kirsty Alsopp. And she's right, there are a lot of people not stepping up when they could. But I think more will emerge as time goes on and hopefully a few more notables will stand with Kirsty, Jennifer Saunders et al.

Irish author John Boyne has given JK his support (he’s well known for writing The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and The Hearts Invisible Furies). He was accused of being transphobic himself last year as he wrote a book called ‘My Brother’s Name is Jessica’ and was accused of cis privilege and criticised for wanting to debate trans rights.

Siablue · 27/06/2020 22:24

Interestingly John Boyne is reading My Brother’s name is Jessica as part of their pride promotion with LGBT authors reading their books. Possibly surprising given the rage that it attracted. He probably comes under the uncancellable category. He is someone with so much sympathy for trans rights who has seen how unreasonable some trans activists are.

Do you know any friends or family who don’t agree with JK?

I don’t but I’ll aware I’m a Middle aged subtext. Even my woke younger sister agrees with her.

So where is this mismatch with the slebs and press? Even the Week magazine, whose editorial is usually quite in the middle, had anti-JK tones which annoyed me greatly. I think they are all running scared
