Alison Moyet again:

"Feminism was never the fuel that propels violent men to murder unless that dead woman was a feminist.
Blaming women for Male violence is trench cowardice."

merrymouse · 13/06/2020 13:23

many of the same people on fb who are screaming at jkr/women for being transphobic and exclusionary, prejudiced etc are the same people arguing very nicely that black lives matter and talking eloquently how all lives matter is not the point at this time.

Its just so tribal isn't it. Its also very strange that some of the white people being very vocal about BLM seemed to be quite happy with the status quo a fortnight ago.

merrymouse · 13/06/2020 13:24

If only they had know earlier, they could have exchange reading lists so much sooner.

ButteryPuffin · 13/06/2020 13:26

Stephen Fry is pro trans. But may not be crass enough to bite the hand that probably paid for his holiday home.

I think he is TWAW but whatever his stance, the implication that he's rich because of his Potter work isn't accurate. He became a millionaire in his twenties from Me and My Girl and has earned loads from his own work ever since. Whereas Daniel Radcliffe has the lifestyle he has purely through having the role in JKR's creation.

Sue Perkins made a timely donation to women's aid.

Did a thread on the cyclist just disappear? (that was quick). We were discussing this:
archive.md/mwiDP
Which must be the reason for this from the cyclist's twitter:

I posted this on another thread but that thread has died a death I think...

I hope I'm not being overly optimistic but I think the tone is shifting. I had a read around online last night and this morning and 90% of what I'm seeing, from journalists, celebs and normal people is support for JK and condemnation of Daniel Radcliffe et al. Even LOJ was being put on his place last night (see Robert Webb's tweet and the thread that followed).

There are still vocal people on Twitter but who are they to dominate the debate? What are their qualifications, where's the social proof of their authority?

It reminds me, in a way, of the hysterical Corbynites the morning after the Tory landslide in December, still screeching that Corbyn was loved by most of the country, and that he was more popular etc. Demonstrably not - but their fury and conviction overruled their sensibilities. I reckon it's the same group, more or less. The bullying and hectoring far left.

Fanthorpe · 13/06/2020 14:58

God I hope so YourVagesty. Maybe daylight hitting the nonsense was the best thing? Shame so many people have been hurt though.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 13/06/2020 15:09

Those fully enmeshed in genderism aren't going to give it up any time soon, but what I hope will come out of this is the general public, institutions etc finally realizing that those people are batshit crazy, backing away slowly, and mostly ignoring their screeching ragemonkey behavior going forward.

YourVagesty · 13/06/2020 15:23

Also would ther be any point in lobbying certain people such as Greta Thunberg or Caitlin Moran?

There was a time when I loved Moran. Bought her books etc. But I've come to the conclusion that she's that certain type of woke feminist who wouldn't go against the crowd. She just likes shouting things that everybody is already okay with. It's not the brave edge of feminism, just popularism.

Helmetbymidnight · 13/06/2020 16:34

please leave Greta alone!

BringbackLang · 13/06/2020 16:38

Talcum X has been doing a bit of back peddling today.

Well done Robert Webb. After the shit time he’s had with his health and previous kicking over this, I’m really impressed he’s said anything about the issue.

Joanna Cherry (Scotland's next First Minister?)

However, Owen Jones and chums would say supporting women's rights means hatred of trans. 🙄

Awning10 · 13/06/2020 17:20

Philip Pullman on Twitter:

Quite right. I don't agree with her position, but the response she had was utterly disgusting. That degree of demented verbal sadism is an indication of something seriously wrong somewhere.

I don't trust or like Pullman.

Gillian Martin has to be very careful on these issues, she's already lost a ministerial position for old posts: www.google.com/amp/s/www.eveningexpress.co.uk/fp/news/local/new-north-east-education-minister-apologises-for-calling-transgender-students-hairy-knuckled-lipstick-wearing-transitional-laydees1/amp/

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 13/06/2020 17:43

I almost threw my phone across the room when I read that Pullman Twitter screenshot. Misconstruing Simone De B like that. I wasn't born a woman but I was born female. I am so tired of men framing the debate about what a woman is, and getting shitty when women disagree.

Sorry. Off topic. Venting.

Fanthorpe · 13/06/2020 17:46

Pullman’s quote made me gasp. Maybe he read it on a poster or something. My god.

The responses were great though Grin
GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 13/06/2020 17:49

I did more than gasp. I made a horrible growling snarling noise so loudly that DDin the next room, asked me what the matter was...

BertieBotts · 13/06/2020 17:50

Honestly this list is reassuring!

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 13/06/2020 17:50

And yeah, epic responses!

Flootered · 13/06/2020 17:52

And people are actually donating to this persons surgery fund!!
