Lots of people back pedalling slightly because there is nothing to be said other than that it is horrific. Outpouring of more virtue signalling.

OJ has slammed it but has disabled replies from those outside his echo chamber so people can't tell him what a bloody hypocrite he is.

Eh? What is this about?

Doyoumind · 12/06/2020 01:12

The Sun's front page for tomorrow is 'I slapped JK and I'm not sorry' from an interview with her ex. Please don't click if you google.

I have never seen a more horrifying headline.

The responses from people who called her a Nazi only three days ago are shocking.

soupmaker · 12/06/2020 01:19

Absolutely fucking vile. A new low.

BigBadVoodooHat · 12/06/2020 01:33

As much as it sickens me, I’m prepared to give the benefit of the doubt here: I’d hope that the intention of this cover is to stimulate further support for JKR.

It would have been much worse to publish something from him discrediting her version of events. This way, his abuse is a matter of self-confessed public record, and therefore it’s an oblique show of support for her.

Juxtaposed with the Emma Watson piece immediately below, I’d say this is them nailing their colours to the mast.

Doyoumind · 12/06/2020 01:37

You could be right Bigbad. I am sickened by the likes of OJ etc who are now desperately trying to cover their arses after their misogyny has been laid bare.

I agree. It generated The Daily Mail article which is very sympathetic to her both in its content and the below the line comments.

BigBadVoodooHat · 12/06/2020 01:43

I honestly think they know exactly what they’re doing with this. The fact that OJ has had to publicly ram an entire humble pie down his throat in response to this is no coincidence.

They’re sticking it to everyone who damned her for her entirely reasonable comments and letting them squirm.

I wonder if the thankless actor brats will continue to be be so vocal now? Hmm

This was my reading of it too, specially as above the headline it’s described as a ‘sick taunt’, and the bottom banner says they ‘confronted’ her ex.

They’ve also, by his statement, confirmed that JKR wasn’t ‘playing for sympathy’ as so many have stated. Still a click bait headline.

Hate hate hate hate the headline. Suspicious of the idea that the Sun's agenda here is to increase support of JKR; not sure they have an agenda beyond sales and being gross. But hoping that the grossness of it all might nevertheless increase support for her.

ItsLateHumpty · 12/06/2020 01:50

And mmmm mm hope little OJ is loving his humble pie. Backtracking prat!

Nice followers he has....

‘Abused women and their allies’?!

Surely the only people who aren’t an ally to abused women are those who abuse them 🧐

I must admit I did face palm at the stupid at that point. And of course how butt hurt must you be to think that highlighting male on female violence is all just orchestrated to make you look bad!

I’m sure there’s a ‘Rules of Misogyny’ that covers this, or maybe several.

BigBadVoodooHat · 12/06/2020 02:03

I must admit I did face palm at the stupid at that point.

And that point was made by a woman, FFS! Shock

AnotherLass · 12/06/2020 02:15

I must say, this world in which everyone is too frightened to say what they think and everyone has to play games is pretty confusing

I'm not sure what loud condemnations of the Sun mean in this context - they could mean either support for Rowling, or the opposite. Maybe they sometimes mean one and sometimes the other

zanahoria · 12/06/2020 02:54

The Sun's agenda is to sell newspapers, like most other newspapers it was far more interested in the domestic violence than the trans stuff. For them, it's just gossip about a celebrity.

Datun · 12/06/2020 03:07

It's such a giveaway.

Abused women and those who help them are 'the enemy'.

TehBewilderness · 12/06/2020 03:10

10th rule of misogyny: The worst thing about male violence is that it makes men look bad.

TehBewilderness · 12/06/2020 03:14

If you think about it almost all news stories about male violence against women center the perp, even celebrities. Most of the time the victim's name isn't even mentioned. She is his girlfriend, or his wife, or his neighbor.
Once you start to notice it you will see it everywhere.

stella47 · 12/06/2020 05:38

I am furious about that shit. He's basically said that other people should reign it in, after he incited, celbrated and inflamed it it in the first place, Jane Clare Jones on Twitter is asking for help with examples of his misogyny and hypocrisy which she'll compile for a letter to the Guardian.

nettie434 · 12/06/2020 06:13

What an irony that some of the most vociferous opponents of JK Rowlings' 'transphobia' did not even begin to engage with her arguments that women experiencing domestic abuse might need women only refuges are now condemning The Sun. The death/rape threats she has received are chilling so why don't they condemn the people making those rather than a paper which at least claimed to have 'confronted' her husband?

I personally see no moral difference between The Sun's coverage and the responses of Redmayne, Radcliffe and Watson who must have known they were fanning the flames, not contributing to a debate.

why do you think The Sun would be motivated to do that?- it would be a really odd thing for any paper to do- never mind one like the Sun.

It's interesting that Owen feels he can care about JK's feelings regarding her husband hitting her now. As always for him, vulnerable women are only something he'll think of when he wants to use them as battering ram against a bigger enemy - in this case, The Sun.
He's no different to the racists who pretend to care about victims of grooming gangs.

ChateauMargaux · 12/06/2020 07:07

They haven't confronted her husband in a valiant attempt to defend her honour they have sought out this person and given him the front page when JK has kept her life private for reasons explained in the letter and the paper has now diminished belittled and minimised the life long effects of abuse. The use of the word slap trivialises what happened and the picture of them together paints them as a young couple who look just like many of us did in our twenties. JK's daughter has to face the knowledge that the Sun choose not to respect her privacy and that of her mother. They have sought out and most likely paid this man and centred him in the story when JK is so much more than this part of her life. Ingrained misogyny.
