This is the link to the information and the FOI. If that specific link doesn't take you directly to it, search the site.

Fairenuff · 11/06/2020 19:15

It isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But “stating sex is real” has become a code for saying: trans women are not women they are male and therefore are men and always will be men. And trans men are not men, they were born female so they will always be women.

It's not even a code and it shouldn't have to be. It's a true fact. What do they teach in GCSE biology these days?

CaveMum · 11/06/2020 19:16

MiddlesexGirl, Datun is probably referencing these figures from Fair Play For Women

fairplayforwomen.com/prison-data-confirmed/

Fairenuff · 11/06/2020 19:17

Grouchy well done. Remember to step back from the gaslighting if people start to bully you.

Courage to calls to courage.

YourVagesty · 11/06/2020 19:18

@ItsLeviooosar

I'd be really interested in his response to that email - would you please consider sharing with us when you hear back? I can't believe they wrote that cunty, snarky tweet in response to what JK wrote.

SoberCurious · 11/06/2020 19:19

I bloody love that woman!

boatyardblues · 11/06/2020 19:23

I have emailed the marvellous JKR.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 11/06/2020 19:29

I’m assuming you can see why that’s inflammatory and painful to many trans people?

If reality is inflammatory and painful for someone they need psychiatric support, and possibly medication. It is not possible to change reality in such a ways as to render it non-inflammatory.

Gotoworkdontgotowork · 11/06/2020 19:32

If I saw anyone, you included, giving a fuck about what in all this is inflammatory and painful to female people,

I do. I think your ideas of solutions and my ideas of solutions are not the same. I don’t think there will be a solution that makes everyone happy so it’s going to be about the least harm to as few people as possible.

IHateCoronavirus · 11/06/2020 19:45

I’m assuming you can see why that’s inflammatory and painful to many trans people?
I can see why they would find it painful. That empathy is why the majority of people respect the trans people that we know and use their chosen name and pronouns to reflect the gender that they feel most aligned to.
However is it inflammatory? No it is the truth. As other pp have said if that truth is so difficult to live with, they need to be given support. Eroding the rights of others to keep up the pretence will help no one.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 11/06/2020 19:48

I don’t think there will be a solution that makes everyone happy so it’s going to be about the least harm to as few people as possible

To do the least harm to as few as possible would be not to pretend the biology of 51% of the earth's human population was irrelevant.

tilder · 11/06/2020 20:01

Thank you JKR.

OldCrone · 11/06/2020 20:07

MiddlesexGirl

From the Telegraph last year about prisoners identifying as transgender.

One in 50 prisoners identifies as transgender amid concerns inmates are attempting to secure prison perks

Lots of statistics here:

Icantreachthepretzels · 11/06/2020 20:08

It's wonderful that JKR so clearly lives by the amazing and important lessons that she puts into her own books.

'when the time comes to make a choice between doing what is easy and what is right...'

Jo did what was right and stood up for Women's rights and keeps on telling the truth in the face of a gas lighting and bullying onslaught very reminiscent of the one she wrote about in OOTP when the Daily Prophet was going out of its way to ridicule, harass and discredit a school boy for stating a truth people didn't want to hear. She knew what hatred looked like, and how the media could turn against you and vilify you even before social media was a thing - and yet she stood up to be counted anyway.

Meanwhile, The Dolores Umbridge Award for Doing What is Easy goes to Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Evanna Lynch, Eddie Redmayne and the Cho Chang actress.

With an honourable mention (Fudge's runner up Prize for Backing Away from the Truth) to Mr. Jonathan Ross

GrouchyKiwi · 11/06/2020 20:09

Fairenuff Thanks. I have been called a gender essentialist and asked if I believe a woman's place is in the kitchen. WHAT?!

LouHotel · 11/06/2020 20:12

Jennifer Saunders retweet is huge for me, I don't think Kathy Burke is on social media but it would be the holy trinity of women I admire having the same morals as I do.

beargrass · 11/06/2020 20:14

Delurking.

  • Thank you JKR Thanks
  • Thank you MNers, who reignited my passion for reading up on VAWG and this world my poor DD will grow up in Thanks
  • Thank you MNHQ for hosting the debate Thanks
  • Thank you to my MP for listening to my words Thanks

I've observed, researched, and read. For a few years. I know what it costs to say "this is not right". It's costing me right now at work. It is awful to have to do this but those of us that can, have got to give serious consideration to standing up and being counted. We have to do it for our sisters who can't.

We truly are living through one of the worst times in which to be a woman. If you'd told me I'd have spent time reading and researching what I have, 20 years ago, I'd never have believed you.

JKR, MNers, MNHQ and my MP (I hope I can count him), keep on keeping on, we are behind you, we are talking among ourselves and we need you. We are here. We are listening. We are organising.

Love and peace ThanksDaffodil

MiddlesexGirl · 11/06/2020 20:15

Thank you Datun / CaveMum / OldCrone.
I'm formulating my plans to be courageous.
Stats like these need to be more widely known.

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/06/2020 20:44

Thank you @Datun, predictably, my question, asked twice, was sidestepped.

Stopped engaging when I mentioned that definitions are important for safeguarding reasons.

Discussions here on mn and then in. Local groups, helped me first understand and then articulate the issues. Invaluable.

Thank you JK and thank you all.

Fairenuff · 11/06/2020 20:44

Grouchy don't engage with goady people on social media.

If you wrestle with a pig you both get dirty. But the pig likes it.

OceanOrchid · 11/06/2020 20:47

I'm formulating my plans to be courageous.

It took me two years to build up the courage to say literally anything on this issue at work. Over the last 6 months I’ve braved the topic with 5 colleagues and none have been even slightly rude to me. For me, bringing up key points (such as don’t trust stonewall) at appropriate points, with your evidence (their advice to schools running contrary to the law) has been pretty effective. I was even brave enough to point out the sex-segregated toilet requirement thing at a training course full of exceptionally woke teachers.

Part of me hates having to be meek and mild about it. I’m not like that about anything else! But where I work being openly angry would get me (at best) ignored. And by playing tactically I’ve been able to protect the students I teach from the harmful aspects of this ideology.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/06/2020 20:47

Fairenuff That is good advice. We continued our discussion and I think he now understands my position even if he doesn't agree with it. I should learn to step back a bit, though.

And I am so thankful to the women of this forum, because I have learned SO MUCH from all of you. Flowers

CatPottse · 11/06/2020 21:07

I agree with everything JKR writes in her article.

Brava.

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/06/2020 21:09

The cognitive dissonance I've just experienced.

Apparently, I 'look transphobic' if i say women are female.

Apparently, female is biology and woman is gender. (Where??)

Apparently, females are females due to biology, women is anyone who says they are.

With all the feelings around BLM and especially within the context of history, surely the parallels to women's history and oppression are obvious? At least the way women were treated is the past (and now) is a little more covered by curriculums than how colonial Britain was shite.

Fairenuff · 11/06/2020 21:18

With all the feelings around BLM and especially within the context of history, surely the parallels to women's history and oppression are obvious?

A lot of the people ranting on twitter are saying that JK is a privileged white woman so should not be speaking. They are completely ignoring who she is speaking up for. Women all over the world are oppressed for their biological sex. Women all over the world do not have the privilege of speaking out so she is doing it for them.

They are idiots.
