I feel sad that she has had to release said article on her life just because some people cant comprehend what she has said in her tweets is true

Aesopfable · 10/06/2020 22:25

@NeverTalksToStrangers

I'm quietly optimistic about Emma Watson. She's a clever girl. Afaik the only thing she has done prior to this is sport a "trans rights are human rights" t-shirt. Nothing incorrect with that statement.
She will be being put under pressure, so who can tell if she manages to hold out?
GingerAndTheBiscuits · 10/06/2020 22:26

A few male journalists, including Ian Dunt who is very of-the-left, have tweeted in support of JKR today. Aaronovitch and Jonathan Haynes from the Guardian too.

Emma speaks.....

Hercwasonaroll · 10/06/2020 22:27

Has everyone seen Johan Lamont MSP tweet in support.

7Days · 10/06/2020 22:27

Well that's good Ginger

Enderthedragon · 10/06/2020 22:27

She has already tweeted - TWAW, and encouraging people to donate to Mermaids.

TheSingingKettle49 · 10/06/2020 22:28

Emma’s tweet just shows her privilege.

She doesn’t have to worry about sharing a prison cell or hospital room with someone who’s decided to say they identify as a woman without having to jump through any hoops at all. She doesn’t have to worry about being followed into a communal changing room at the local pool or competing against a transwoman in professional sports and losing when you would’ve won against any other woman.

Absolutely

Nah.

peoplearepeople · 10/06/2020 22:30

I mentioned this on another thread, but LBC are talking about this topic shortly. (maybe 11pm?) Can anyone who's good at this stuff phone in? Whenever I've listened to phone ins on this before it's been woeful, with the presenter not really having a clue about the issues people are actually concerned about.

Actually I am pretty sure Emma plays hockey or at least she used to. I wonder how she would feel about playing against a transwoman?
BaronessSnippyPantsofCroneArmy · 10/06/2020 22:32

"A day or so back I read a horrific account of Yazidi girls being burnt to death in cages because they had refused to become sex slaves. Then some twaddle by a young woman about being non-binary. I cried with sadness and frustration, that our world and culture are destroying girls, and yet there are young women happily going along with this."

I saw that SirVix and it made me cry too. The women and girls who survive these atrocities are the ones Baroness Nicholson works so hard for. I don't think everyone is aware of her work in this area.

TooOldForSims · 10/06/2020 22:33

She is obviously not a pro hockey player but she has played competitively before at least.

DeRigueurMortis · 10/06/2020 22:33

To be fair to Emma she's a better actress than I thought, after all she did a good job of pretending to be clever and capable of critical thought as Hermione.

🤷‍♀️

I can imagine the backtracking when Mermaids goes the way of Kids Company.

'Of course I didn't know...'

It's gonna happen

RedToothBrush · 10/06/2020 22:35

What does Emma Watson know about life apart from wanting to make her followers happy?

Another one who has been reading headlines not what JKR has said. And more importantly why.

I think I don't really need to say more except post this:

Late on Saturday evening, scrolling through children’s pictures before I went to bed, I forgot the first rule of Twitter – never, ever expect a nuanced conversation – and reacted to what I felt was degrading language about women. I spoke up about the importance of sex and have been paying the price ever since. I was transphobic, I was a cunt, a bitch, a TERF, I deserved cancelling, punching and death. You are Voldemort said one person, clearly feeling this was the only language I’d understand.

It would be so much easier to tweet the approved hashtags – because of course trans rights are human rights and of course trans lives matter – scoop up the woke cookies and bask in a virtue-signalling afterglow. There’s joy, relief and safety in conformity. As Simone de Beauvoir also wrote, “… without a doubt it is more comfortable to endure blind bondage than to work for one’s liberation; the dead, too, are better suited to the earth than the living.”

frumpety · 10/06/2020 22:36

Ah but Emma what about the children who transition and then choose to de-transition, but are left with broken bodies ? What are they ? Traitors to the cause ? Ignored because they don't fit with the current ideology ? Dismissed because they no longer matter ? Abused for no longer believing ? Told to shut up because like women, their viewpoint is no longer a valid one ?

JKR you are a bloody star Star

Whatsnewpussyhat · 10/06/2020 22:39

Twitter is bizarre.
People not understanding that the US is not the UK. Different rights etc.

There's a writer who has tweeted that "she just doesn't understand why JK has done this", then in the next breath, "oh look, my new book is out for pre order"

Sick of this unfounded claim that trans women are somehow the most oppressed people in whole world bullshit.
Read one women say that the poor trans women suffer from the most horrific misogyny. Hmm

Here in the UK, why are a tiny minority who have an issue with THEIR biology telling the rest of us we must not only stop using our words, but change our entire belief system to suit their narrative.

If someone is truely triggered by a sanitary towel because it reminds them of the biology the can't escape from, then we don't need 'inclusive language', we need better mental health care.

This was my favourite reply

You misspelled ignorant dumbass! Sales of her books will soar to new heights, and you will still be a dipshit

WowStarsWow · 10/06/2020 22:41

Another one here whose eyes welled up at the end of her post. I have shared it on facebook (not afraid for my job) and emailed my thanks. What a strong, amazing woman she is. Thank you Jo Star Star Star

Oh look here comes a bangwagon I can hitch my wago to so I can sell my shit.

Seems there is more than a few of them out there. Its remarkably cynical and very very neo-capitalist.

iguanadonna · 10/06/2020 22:47

Pretty sure JK must be among us. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

iguanadonna · 10/06/2020 22:48

Now I think about it, thank you too to all the insightful women who informed her when she looked into the issues.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 10/06/2020 22:49

Looks like Emma tweeted 1 minute after I said I was quietly optimistic regarding her. SadBlush
