Wow.

Focusanddetermination · 10/06/2020 20:13

Most of what I've seen on Facebook by now unfortunately is not a positive response. People who probably haven't read it, and definitely haven't taken the message on board, as their posts are still all about telling her to shut up.

Interestingly, on Facebook I've seen far more men than women post support for JK. Perhaps because they can, without fear of reprisal.

KingOfDogShite · 10/06/2020 20:14

She is wonderful

LouHotel · 10/06/2020 20:15

So before I could find a publication I agree with to share on Facebook my husband got there before me and shared. #peaked

OceanOrchid · 10/06/2020 20:16

What's the email address to write to for her please?

I used [email protected]

OunceOfFlounce · 10/06/2020 20:16

Have felt really anxious and hounded over the past few days at the thought of living in a world where all this is happening.

It all seems a bit lighter and easier knowing the woman who wrote the thing about choosing between what is right and what is easy is so unfathomably brave.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 10/06/2020 20:16

Wow. Just wow.

She’s some woman for one woman isn’t she?

MrGHardy · 10/06/2020 20:18

Been scouring Twitter for replies to this.

This is a great turning point. Not because there isn't the usual brigade of "terf" but rather, everyone else will see a popular, liked author argue rationally and reasonably, and a hoard of bigots insulting her for it. It will also hopefully encourage others to stand up to the bullies.

NonnyMouse1337 · 10/06/2020 20:18

Massive respect!!! What a wonderfully articulate, thoughtful blog post. I am so pleased at her solidarity with women everywhere. I couldn't stop the tears while reading it.

Thank you, thank you, Joanne. You've summed up what so many women here and elsewhere have been saying for so long.

I am so sick of the pernicious idea these days that women as a class cannot and do not have things in common. The unifying reality of women's lives across nations, cultures and history is something that no man will ever understand or experience. It is a class solidarity unlike any other.

She is just amazing ! I don't know whether i want to high-five her or hug her more. Thank you so much, Jo.

Ashhead24 · 10/06/2020 20:20

Really brave. Have outed myself as GC and shared on Facebook as it deserves sharing.

Destinysdaughter · 10/06/2020 20:22

I've shared it on FB. We NEED a critical mass now, please share!

teawamutu · 10/06/2020 20:25

I've just emailed the Body Shop CEO to express my disgust.

onedayallthiswillbeyours · 10/06/2020 20:26

Thank you JK, thank you, thank you. You are so courageous. My heart was thumping out of my chest reading that. As a mother of 4 young girls I cannot thank you enough.

TooTiredTodayOk · 10/06/2020 20:26

Thanks Ocean, I've just sent her an email.

JamieLeeCurtains · 10/06/2020 20:27

What does it say on the Body Shop bag in the photo?

ShinyFootball · 10/06/2020 20:27

Oh wow thanks JK.

She has the money not to be touched with threats to work etc.

But that post highlights that is not all there is to this. Family, friends. It's such a divisive subject. No one wants to risk these relationships, and we all know the arts in general are woke as anything. JK is really putting herself out there.

I am too scared at work. Everyone I have spoken to IRL has said, the aims, the doctrine, the stuff that has already happened is appalling.

But for men, they have no skin in the game. For women, they are worried about being seen as bigots.

I have been married for 13 years, my DH knows my politics Grin He is being better at not going on the defensive. He says this is all terrible. I say, what are you doing about it? Would it even occur to you to do something about it?

One of the best wins of patriarchy is to put anything that affects women and girls in s box called 'women's issues'. Even CSA of boys seems to fall under 'women's issues'. So men can tune out. Not my problem.

How is that harm to children of both sexes and harm to women who are half the population, is sidelined as 'women's issues'???

I have seen this in action more than once and can tell my anecdotes if people want to hear Smile

Suffice to say that the average man tunes out when it's 'women's issues' with a 'not my problem' thing. This comes up over and over. It's really frustrating.

Bottom line is. Most men care about 'their' women and children. Other than that it's all about men.

ShinyFootball · 10/06/2020 20:29

So JK shares her intently personal history of DV.

Body shop offers her a bath bomb to get over it. Essentially.

Yeah fuck you body shop. No more money from me.

teawamutu · 10/06/2020 20:30

A bath bomb and a book about trans rights.

Fuck them. FUCK them.

SophocIestheFox · 10/06/2020 20:30

She’s fab. That article is terrific.

Jintyfer · 10/06/2020 20:31
That Independent piece was still not very supportive and how rude of them to give Luna the last word in criticising Jo. What is it with the reporting of this in the MSM over the last few days. The articles are just cut-n-pastes of tweets and opinion, where has the journalistic integrity gone? Was there ever any and we're really just seeing the lack of it now? I despair.
BoreOfWhabylon · 10/06/2020 20:31

@LouHotel

Justine and mumsnet just to say you deserve all the credit in the world for weathering this storm and I'm so glad you wont have to do it alone anymore.
