Wow. Just wow, Jo. You've just proven what an educated, reasonable, courageous writer and woman you are. ❤❤❤

There is a sexual assault and murder linked to someone in my life, although fortunately not in my own past. I've seen how it affects lives, even many years on. Brava, Jo, for standing up for what is right. xxx

GrouchyKiwi · 10/06/2020 19:42

Haz You can email her at [email protected]

RoyalCorgi · 10/06/2020 19:43

The silence in response to this will speak volumes.

Indeed. What possible response could anyone have to such an eloquent, thoughtful, brilliantly-argued piece of writing? What are they going to attack her for? For her charitable work with children? The money she's spent helping domestic violence victims? For being a victim of sexual assault and domestic abuse? For caring deeply about what happens to vulnerable young girls?

I notice that the Guardian has reported that squirt Redmayne's remarks. Will they report Rowling's article? I'm guessing not. After all, there's no way they can report it honestly without drawing attention to their own part in promoting a misogynistic, abusive ideology.

Sexnotgender · 10/06/2020 19:43

He might well come out and say had no idea she was a victim of sexual assault.

Because that's the only criteria, isn't it? If you've actually been fucking assaulted then you might get a pass.

I saw a phrase on here a while ago, “Raped enough to ride”. Where women had to justify their discomfort with males in private spaces, had to disclose deeply traumatic experiences to be allowed a “pass” to feel that way.

Haz1516 · 10/06/2020 19:44

Thank you @GrouchyKiwi. The other sad thing is that this article will probably be swept under the carpet by those who don't want to listen. It's very articulate.

WrongKindOfFace · 10/06/2020 19:44

I’m glad she didn’t back down.

I don’t blame her for turning off comments though. The retweets are horrific - a delightful mix of ‘shut up’ and ‘die bitch’.

mateysmum · 10/06/2020 19:44

If only I could write like this. Wow, just wow. Honest, heartfelt, balanced and downright wonderful.

No wonder the TRAs don't want people to read it.

JKR I hope you are lurking and know how much you mean to the witches coven here on Mumsnet.

Stay strong.

SisyphusLangClegRocks · 10/06/2020 19:45

I think I've got something in my eye.....

dementedma · 10/06/2020 19:45

Sad so many of us can’t/won’t repost for fear of retribution. I think that tells its own story.
And thank you to MN for not bowing to trans activist pressure and allowing women, men, transwomen and trans men to discuss this issue here.

Bookrat · 10/06/2020 19:45

A PP said now is the time to share our stance on social media. Not everyone can, but I have nothing to lose but followers (and possibly some friends). So yes to the PP. I have shared JK's piece as the least I can do to show support and appreciation for this amazing woman.

PearPickingPorky · 10/06/2020 19:46

Oh she's just wonderful.

Such a thoughtful paragraph about checking with her daughter before speaking about her abusive first marriage too.

Sexnotgender · 10/06/2020 19:46

I’ve emailed her too. It probably won’t get to her but I felt better doing it.

Powergower · 10/06/2020 19:48

I'm tears here too. Just so very overwhelmed with sadness and frustration at this awful situation. As if women don't have enough to deal with if life. Thank you jk.

RaininSummer · 10/06/2020 19:49

Wonderfully articulate and personal piece of writing. Always liked JK now I positively adore her.

YgritteSnow · 10/06/2020 19:51

Yes! @MaleficentsCrow Thanks

I live near the Pankhurst residence as it happens, blue plaque and all. I cried the first time I walked past and saw the plaque.

mongoosebaby · 10/06/2020 19:51

I've emailed her too, because even though she probably won't see it, I feel that she needs to know she is supported. So much hate has been sent her way, how can she possibly deserve it? How can anyone justify that? I can't bear people who are incapable of critical thought. She's one of the least hateful people out there- look at her deeds- she puts her money where her mouth is. One brave woman

TooTiredTodayOk · 10/06/2020 19:52

Urgh, I've just had a look at Twitter, The Body Shop had better extend their men's range, I'll never buy anything from there ever again.

OldSpanner · 10/06/2020 19:52

Flowers Bravo JK, tremendous work. Thank you.

Susanna85 · 10/06/2020 19:53

What a woman.
And I'll stand beside her!!!

TooOldForSims · 10/06/2020 19:53

I think I am going to send her an email as well to show my support.

Desperatelyseekingreason · 10/06/2020 19:54

Another lurker here. Thanks JK, beautifully put. What have we come to that women are frightened of the consequences of voicing their views but I've just shared it on Facebook anyway. Time to get a hard hat...

PerfectPenquins · 10/06/2020 19:54

Shared the hell out of her response. The body shops mocking tweet is disgraceful I hope they go under with the recession. You cant stand by passively supporting her in private, we need to loudly support each other against the vile abuse given out to women for having an opinion on their own dam sex based rights.

CheerfuIPotato · 10/06/2020 19:54

Wouldn’t it be a wonderful gesture from Daniel Radcliffe, Evanna Lynch and Eddie Redmayne if they showed their support for the trans activists by donating the ‘dirty money’ they received playing characters in JK Rowlings’ stories, to Trans Charities? grin It must be terrible for them knowing how some of their wealth has been accumulated

Now THIS needs to go viral!! Fabulous!

iswhois · 10/06/2020 19:55

If the Harry Potter reddit is anything to go by it's already being deliberately twisted and misquoted

ThePankhurstConnection · 10/06/2020 19:55

That was a very moving piece of writing and I really agreed with every word, she expressed the way I feel too. It's unlikely she reads here but thank you J K Rowling, truly, thank you so much.
