And I can’t do anything, because if I am ‘outed’, I could lose my job. I can’t believe that sensible, articulate women are largely unable to enter into reasoned discussion about this. I don’t hate trans people, but I am concerned about the rights of women and girls, and I can’t say anything about it.

You could send her statement to your MP and tell them that millions of voters agree with her.

And buy her Robert Galbraith books, they're fab.

RoyalCorgi · 10/06/2020 19:22

When you think of the number of high-profile people who have spoken out but haven't (or people like Ross who have spoken out but backtracked), the courage she has displayed becomes even more impressive. True bravery is saying the right thing when people don't want to hear it, and knowing you'll be abused for it. She is an extraordinary woman.

NaviSprite · 10/06/2020 19:23

I had shivers reading this, thank you again to the fantastic and laudable JK Rowling, I share so many similarities to what you have written, I wish I could voice them in such an articulate way - I respect you and I hope others may find strength in your courage as I have.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 10/06/2020 19:24

I have just copied the link onto my facebook. Had a comment praising me for my courage in posting it, that made me so sad. It shouldn't be like this!!!

Jezebel101 · 10/06/2020 19:25

I wish I could articulate myself even a fraction as well as JKR. What an amazing piece.

I want to be JK Rowling when I grow up.

jeaux90 · 10/06/2020 19:25

Thank you JK. All those assholes who spoke out against you, against us, should sink red faced into their woke beards.

I've shared on facebook like thousands of other women now emboldened by your bravery.

Cleebope2 · 10/06/2020 19:26

Thank you JK for putting yourself out there and taking the abuse on behalf of others. You are my hero.

Starcup · 10/06/2020 19:27

What an incredible woman. So eloquently written.

EchoCardioGran · 10/06/2020 19:28

That was thoughtful, insightful, and uplifting to read.
OP thank you for posting.

JKR thank you for writing.

What a woman. Flowers

Miriel · 10/06/2020 19:28

This is absolutely brilliant. Like so many others, I'm a bit tearful over it, and I feel quite emotional. Maybe this is where the tide really begins to turn, and soon women won't have to be afraid that speaking the truth will damage their careers.

Years ago I was a big HP fan - I've written fanfiction! That JK Rowling has spoken out means a lot to me. If you're reading, thank you so much. We hear you.

alwaysthinkingofsleep · 10/06/2020 19:29

Wonderful.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 10/06/2020 19:29

This is so clever. She knows fine well that the Twitterati will take no notice or even try to process what she's saying. But a reasonable, cogent, compelling explanation of the GC point of view is now out there in plain sight and can't be hidden. The more her detractors attack it, the more visible it will be.

IAmReportingYouForBBQing · 10/06/2020 19:29

LUMOS!

Right now, today, for the first time in ages I am proud to be a woman.

Thank you Jo.

coconutpie · 10/06/2020 19:29

What an amazing woman. Just fabulous. Every word she speaks makes sense.

Twentypasttwelve · 10/06/2020 19:30

I cried throughout the whole piece. She is fucking brilliant and puts my mixed up thoughts (especially as a woman who has also been through domestic violence and rape) into words so eloquently.

I feel so grateful to her for sharing this.

I don't know how anyone can misconstrue anything she has said in this essay. But I'm sure they will give it a go.

Oxyiz · 10/06/2020 19:32

Oh they hate it. They hate her. She could cure cancer right now and they'd still burn her at the stake.

Never get in-between a man and his sexual fantasies.

YgritteSnow · 10/06/2020 19:32

All of you who are scared to share it. Just do it! We have to be brave. We have to pull together now and do our bit. Lock it down so work colleagues don't see it, protect your jobs obviously but now is the time,

I wish there was a way we could all become friends on FB - all the 1000s of us and then like and comment on each other's posts. Just take over. Imagine what we could do!

CheerfuIPotato · 10/06/2020 19:33

Omg. I’m welling up. That was the most amazing thing I’ve ever, ever read.

I too will join the orchestra to celebrate her.

I suspect Daniel Radcliffe will remain schtum but he should be on his fucking knees grovelling for her forgiveness.

Fuck you Radcliffe. And you, Redmayne. You absolute arrogant little pricks.

I’m so glad I came off Twitter this morning because I can imagine the frothing from the TRAs - what’s the betting they attack her for the revelations about what she’s suffered? In fact I’m willing to bet they’ll accuse her of making it up.

MaleficentsCrow · 10/06/2020 19:35

YgritteSnow as someone once said:

Take courage, join hands, stand beside us, fight with us.' - Christabel Pankhurst

Alyssum34456 · 10/06/2020 19:35

This is wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing.

Fairenuff · 10/06/2020 19:36

The silence in response to this will speak volumes.

After all what can they say? They can't be even more abusive as the sunlight is on them.

Tonz · 10/06/2020 19:36

Amazing words from an amazing woman. Love JK Rowling and all she stands for

DrDavidBanner · 10/06/2020 19:37

How does somebody get into your head and write all your thoughts so clearly in black and white?

What a woman. Thank you Jo Gin Flowers

ComDummings · 10/06/2020 19:37

I emailed her, even if she doesn’t read them herself as no doubt she gets soooo many, I’m sure whoever deals with them for her will let her know that she does have a lot of support out there.

Haz1516 · 10/06/2020 19:41

I love this. I hope she knows how supported she is. I can't find a way to send her a message, probably because she receives so much abuse.

Trying to find the courage to share on my Facebook.
