Thank you Jo - this is the piece I can use when trying to explain how I feel. Your story is also mine, and thousands of other women. 💐

Datun · 10/06/2020 19:11

@LouHotel

All I can think about is her Jonathan ross interview for book 7 and how absolutely introverted she is for someone so quick, funny and intelligent - in the prism of a DV survivor you see it in a different light.
That is a very insightful comment.
CrazyToast · 10/06/2020 19:11

Fantastic! I emailed her to say thanks.

I don't think it will do any good at all for those who have already condemned her---because they weren't reading or understanding her words in the first place.

But it might tip some who were unaware or on the fence.

Good lass, our Jo.

DomDoesWotHeWants · 10/06/2020 19:11

Beautifully written. Thanks, JK.

rollonoctober · 10/06/2020 19:13

Amazing - I have been brave and shared on my fb. I hope DR and ER are squirming uncomfortably now.

IHateCoronavirus · 10/06/2020 19:14

Wouldn’t it be a wonderful gesture from Daniel Radcliffe, Evanna Lynch and Eddie Redmayne if they showed their support for the trans activists by donating the ‘dirty money’ they received playing characters in JK Rowlings’ stories, to Trans Charities? Grin It must be terrible for them knowing how some of their wealth has been accumulated.

GrouchyKiwi · 10/06/2020 19:14

Incredible. She's so wonderful. This is beautifully, plainly, amazingly written. So calm, so reasoned.

I too am very close to sharing it on Facebook despite the response I will get from some friends. DH is encouraging me to do it.

Thank you, Jo, thank you so much.

rabbitwoman · 10/06/2020 19:14

I shared it on twitter and Facebook - I work in a school so could be in trouble, but I said this:

Blimey.

Whatever your thoughts on this debate, do read this.

I mean, you might not agree with her but surely this shows JK Rowling is obviously not evil, cruel, bigoted, and she definitely knows her stuff.

Clear, reasoned and respectful debate is the solution, not hatred and nasty name calling.

Fairenuff · 10/06/2020 19:14

Jonathan Ross should have explained to his daughters that life teaches you things you can't learn from reading twitter. Experience counts for everything. Women's lived experiences are the reason we know damned well we can't afford to let them take our rights away.

Courage calls to courage everywhere.

Datun · 10/06/2020 19:15

I'm expecting Daniel Radcliffe to come back with an apology on her behalf though hmm.

He might well come out and say had no idea she was a victim of sexual assault.

Because that's the only criteria, isn't it? If you've actually been fucking assaulted then you might get a pass.

Idiot men and their fucking privilege.

He should indeed, but he appears to be a spineless puppet.
ChateauMargaux · 10/06/2020 19:15

Thank you thank you thank you.

sleepyhead · 10/06/2020 19:16

Thank you JKR. Thank you.

I know people say that you're protected by your money, but no-one goes unscathed by this amount of vitriol.

Brave lady. Brava.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/06/2020 19:16

@WomaninBoots

Holy crap I am SO close to sharing this on Facebook and losing all my friends... SO close.
@WomaninBoots I did, today, as well as some other posts over the last 2 days, driven by the abuse of JK. BUT I created a restricted list of friends to hide it from. I say "friends" I just mean connections and people I just don't know well enough to know how they sit on this issue. I also hid worky people and some local mums. Just do that, then you can enjoy the satisfaction of sharing it - trust me, it's liberating - and although most people will ignore your post, some will join in to discuss it. x
MockersGuidedByTheScience · 10/06/2020 19:17

Go Jo, you Star

Over to you, Daniel

wohmum · 10/06/2020 19:17

Wow. What a powerful, eloquent and honest article. I’m a long term lurker and rarely put my head above the parapet. Thank you JK .

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 10/06/2020 19:17

I suspect she probably has her own MN account!

rabbitwoman · 10/06/2020 19:18

I also emailed. She seems to take a lot of comfort from her emails.

Callmejudith · 10/06/2020 19:18

Fucking YES!

PumbaasCucumbas · 10/06/2020 19:18

Amazing!!! Blown away! My new Shero - people have got statues and knighthoods for less

Sexnotgender · 10/06/2020 19:19

I think I’ve got something in my eye😭

Thank you, from the very bottom of my heart, you wonderful wonderful woman 💕

1point21gigawatts · 10/06/2020 19:20

Bloody brilliant.

Thank you JK, you are my hero.

YRGAM · 10/06/2020 19:20

All the best to all of you brave enough to share this and risk the reaction you will get from a vocal minority. You're a lot braver than I am.

witchofthenorth · 10/06/2020 19:21

I FUCKING LOVE THIS WOMAN

Jo if you are reading this, thank you, thank you, thank you.

I'm not brave enough yet to put my head above the parapet with you or any of you lovely women on this thread, but I'm nearly there.

What she has written in spades. I steered my beautiful daughter to it, she feels the same, and said this is how I feel about it, far more eloquently put than I ever could.
