So people are complaining she’s taking the spotlight away from Black Lives Matter by constantly tweeting about her and hashtagging stuff about her and bombing Twitter with anti JK Rowling stuff and er... not filling Twitter with BLM tweets and putting the spotlight on this?

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 07/06/2020 08:44

She is truly a Gryffindor.

Helmetbymidnight · 07/06/2020 08:45

jolyon is a patronising twat.

I wonder whether @jk_rowling has given even a moment's thought to the trans boys or young men, many of them acutely vulnerable, whose gender identity she denies, who she belittles, here

i wonder if hes given any thought to the women he belittles here.

oof he makes me more angry than the young uns.

BringbackLang · 07/06/2020 08:47

If I was JK and being petty I would post this but I'm not JK and I got rid of my Twitter account Wink

BillyCotton · 07/06/2020 08:49

I am surprised jolyon even knows about the existence of transmen although I suspect he only acknowledged them to score a point.

Helmetbymidnight · 07/06/2020 08:49

would ask you to engage with what it means to be born a girl and identify as a boy and have an author you admire deny that part of your identity

what a twat- like women dont know what it is to be a girl and to wish one wasnt. my god, he reeks of male privelege.

MissFitton · 07/06/2020 08:50

I've been lurking on these boards for years with nothing of consequence to contribute but I just wanted to add my voice in support of JKR, she is truly fucking marvellous. ❤️

ThinEndoftheWedge · 07/06/2020 08:50

oof he makes me more angry than the young uns.

Agreed - he is old enough to know (although 10 mins ago this was true) that it is abuse - not progression - for adult males to be given access to single sex spaces

Lamahaha · 07/06/2020 08:51

I should add that most of my woke writer friends are American. The one who posted that comment I quoted above is -- a man. Some of them are gay.

While I believe there is hope for the UK, I truly despair about the USA. I am a member of a very big US based Facebook book club (readers) and one member yesterday posted that she has a "non-binary" child; she asked for book recommendations so she could "educate herself". You would not believe the amount of virtue signalling applause she got among the book recommendations, people saying what a fantastic mother she is and bla bla bla. In fact, more "you are so wonderful" posts than book recommendations.

Posts like that make me despair, to be honest.
America makes me despair.

Helmetbymidnight · 07/06/2020 08:59

i saw that Lama, and now today theres a post saying 'what can i read to my child that is not Harry Potter' -

Helmetbymidnight · 07/06/2020 09:00

he really is a smarmy bastard

Lamahaha · 07/06/2020 09:02

Oh, my fingers would be itching to reply to that one! Must go and find it -- though I doubt I will actually reply. Can't anger potential readers...
This is where we mid-list author have to keep our mouths shut. True, there's nobody to fire us, but readers we want to attract and keep and daren't anger.

Lamahaha · 07/06/2020 09:03

^ That reply was for Helmet's post above.

donquixotedelamancha · 07/06/2020 09:06

She has intimated that she knows exactly what she's getting into. With talk of 'thought crime' and having read about the issue for 3 years. Plus she is a colleague of baroness Nicholson.

This. I've never seen a public utterance from JKR which isn't well thought through.

This isn't someone who just lost their rag on twitter and hot dragged into the debate. It's not some relative unknown who can be bullied into silence.

JKR is clever, articulate, experienced, loved by the public and has effectively unlimited resources. She's been getting angrier and angrier but she's still highly controlled.

This was the dumbest fight they could ever have picked, they just couldn't help themselves.

NotBadConsidering · 07/06/2020 09:08

They’ve edited her Wikipedia page already.

And when I say “they” I mean the person that has done it uses the pronouns they/them Hmm

There’s something deeply disturbing about people with a sense of self so precarious, it only exists when the rest of the world joins in their delusion. When did self-determination and inner-worth stop being valuable human qualities.

Surely if they were as assured if the reality of their inner gender as they insist, their reaction to JKR would be a dismissive shrug and a, “Well, I believe differently.” Or, I dunno, date to dream, a reasoned argument or civil disagreement.

Instead, given an open platform to shout at a woman to be quiet, they’ve leapt on the opportunity with all the enthusiasm, but none of the grace, of a lion pursuing a wildebeest.

The worst are certainly full of passionate intensity but not much else of value.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 07/06/2020 09:14

Fucking autocorrect. Dare to dream.

macaroniandpizza · 07/06/2020 09:17

I grew up reading harry potter and loved jk rowling for creating a world i could lose myself in. Love her even more for standing up above the parapet for what she believes in

nextslideplease · 07/06/2020 09:22

To the person who got doxxed, that's awful! Sad Angry and its exactly the sort of thing that could happen in my workplace so I am careful what I say and do. I'm not in JK's position where she can afford not to GAF. That's why the trans movement is so visible because we aren't allowed to speak up.

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 07/06/2020 09:24

Oooh Tinsel love that Molly Weasley picture. "Not my daughter, you bitch" sums up this whole thing for me really.

Oxyiz · 07/06/2020 09:24

Is there something we can do to show support and solidarity if we're not on Twitter or Facebook? Donate to a charity?

TerribleCustomerCervix · 07/06/2020 09:25

I wonder what her MN username is.

I bet it’s a dead witty play on words.

Or Anyfucker.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 07/06/2020 09:30

Donating to Lumos might be a good move.

I also can't comment due to chances I'd be sacked, I teach secondary science and its painful how when we cover menstruation at least one student will say "Boys can have periods too".

JemimaShore · 07/06/2020 09:30

THANK YOU JK Rowling Thanks

She won't bow to them, and it's making them furious.
