Even if the books and films stop earning, she must have some decent investments...

They won't. One of the perks of being a writer is that once you retire your books keep on earning for you, and when you die, for your heirs. At her rate of popularity, hers will go on earning long after the copyright expires 75 years after her death. She's fixed for life and her heirs thereafter.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/05/2020 08:42

Or if they don't write the review, rather. Because that's how the publishing business works, right? Incredibly successful authors who've already sold millions of books will someone find those sales undone and the money vanished from their bank accounts if you, internet random, don't recommend the books they wrote and made a fortune on 20 years ago. Like they were your mate who just self published a book about their knickers over trousers adventures and needs you to promote it or nobody will notice it exists.

drspouse · 21/05/2020 08:43

So not only did these poor young women think they could become men, but they also thought they could become Harry Potter? How sad.
I suppose at least it's not quite as bad as the 6 year old boys who want to be called Sparkle Princess and whose mothers say "yes you can choose to be a girl but I draw the line at you choosing your own name".

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 21/05/2020 09:22

Maybe they think that if they shout at JK loud enough and for long enough, they’ll hurt her feelings? Nah, can’t be that, because we all know that hurty feelings is akin to literal murder and the TRAs are completely adverse to violence and threats. They must think if they wave their magic wands at her hard enough while chanting “Evanesco! Evanesco!” that she’ll disappear.

Looking at those screenshots, and if you've got a strong stomach, check out the pinned tweet on the @That70sChk account:

NSFW but it couldn't be more clear where they're coming from. Do these trans activists never look at their fellow mob members and think "I'm surrounded by perverts, maybe I'm not on the right side after all."

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 21/05/2020 10:34

Fuck sake. When I was working in a nursing homes and a resident wandered out of their room with their bloomers/underpants on the the outside of their clothes, it was because they were confused or suffering from dementia. That’s just grim.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/05/2020 10:44

It's like they think that she'll be sunk financially and the Potter empire will die if they, random who wears knickers over their trousers on the internet like some sort of odd superhero (where's the cape?), write a review titled "why I as a knickers over trousers wearing enthusiast liked Harry Potter and would recommend that you buy this book on Kindle".

Grin
TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/05/2020 10:54

Has anyone else found that they've become less tolerant towards behavior like knickers on the outside person is showing on the subway as a result of the last few years of social trends? If you've ever lived in a big city you'll have encountered random exhibitionists making a nuisance of themselves in public spaces, but I used to just sort of roll my eyes and ignore them like everyone is doing in that clip. Seeing that kind of behavior framed as a social justice issue where the poor persecuted pervs are being cruellly discriminated against by a bigoted society unwilling to celebrate them for being stunning and brave has pushed me from "meh, annoying, go away" to "maybe we should arrest these arseholes in the hopes it will discourage them". Which I don't think was the intended effect of all the wailing about how stunning and brave they are.

Datun · 21/05/2020 11:23

These people are fools.

She's an author of books for children. Do they really think that the more perverts oppose her, the worse she's going to feel??

I bet she can't distance herself quick enough. Except, she doesn't even have to do that, as they're doing it for her.

AnyOldPrion · 21/05/2020 11:38

I’m less tolerant of male exhibitionism as well Kittens, it isn’t just you. I think there has been a massive push towards normalising the behaviour and online platforms such as Twitter encourage more and more men to see it as either a fun challenge or something they can get away with, along with loud shrieks that they aren’t harming anyone and anyone objecting is infringing on their human rights.

Performing sex acts(including visible actions that induce arousal In public is a perversion. The men that carry out these acts are inflicting their perversion on anyone else in that space.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/05/2020 11:41

And the thing is, there are semi public spaces where that's acceptable and people have opted in (specific kinds of clubs for example), and those people could make use of those, but they're actively choosing to harass the general public instead.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 21/05/2020 11:49

That video - how does that person think that behaviour is okay? It's just utterly grim and about personal gratification. It's basically turning random strangers into sex toys.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/05/2020 11:58

Apparently that person does knickers on the outside most of the time, and there are superwoman references. All I can think of is this film, but without the sense of humor.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hentai_Kamen_(film)

endofthelinefinally · 21/05/2020 12:15

How do these people have so much time to spend on this kind of behaviour, photographing it, discussing it etc? Haven't they got work to do? Livings to earn? It is all so much self absorption and lack of interest in anything else that is going on in the world.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/05/2020 12:21

It seems to be an as you go about your day thing, like they just walk around NYC with their keks on the outside wiggling their crotch at the world and filming it while tagging themselves as "sexy". 20 years ago my reaction would have been pity but years of propaganda and boundary pushing have shifted that response into irritation.

nauticant · 21/05/2020 12:34

In the past my reaction to oversharing of fetishes was to mentally step back while wondering if it was me being old-fashioned. Now I curl my lip in disgust. Before anyone tries to misquote me, it's the sharing, ie foisting*, and the public performances that trigger this reaction.

  • had to check that one carefully to avoid a typo
TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/05/2020 12:40

Just to be clear, what she almost typed wouldn't be acceptable in public spaces either! This should go without speaking, but given the kind of people we're dealing with...

HorseRadishFemish · 21/05/2020 14:56

Bloody hell, prod! That hentai kamen thing..

andyoldlabour · 21/05/2020 15:14

If @that70schk had really studied women, in order to see how they behave, speak and dress and thus become "more womanly", then can someone please point me to the chapter which gave clear instructions as to how a woman dresses themselves.
I only ask this as a bloke, because in all my time on this little planet, I have never witnessed a girl/woman/human female, taking selfies of themselves in public, whilst wearing frilly lingerie outside their jeans.

Datun · 21/05/2020 15:24

Kittens!

he learns by chance that wearing women's used underwear on his face awakens the dormant powers of his dominatrix mother

How the fuck can anyone take this shit seriously?

HorseRadishFemish · 21/05/2020 15:47

Sorry, kittens. Prod sounds a bit weird now I think of it!

FannyCann · 21/05/2020 18:26

Eww. I only just looked, thanks to your NSFW warning Nauticant Fashion forwards and sexy indeed! Envy

I do love the total lack of response from the seated passengers - it's well worth having a book to help keep the gaze averted.

boatyardblues · 21/05/2020 20:33

The plot synopsis for that Hentai Kamen film is priceless, though weird AF. Gotta love a superhero film where one of the rivals is called Slenderly Fit Man. 🤣 Only in Japan.

NoMoreTwistNoMoreTwist · 21/05/2020 21:33

JK Rowling remains brilliant. Once this has blown over, not only will she be remembered for her fantastic books but historically she’ll be remembered as a strong fearless woman. I look forward to my grandchildren learning about her at school.

I know this thread is a few days old now, and this board moves so fast sometimes that it has probably been dead and buried, but I left the tab open to read and only just got around to it - and I just wanted to thank Dances for the link to "Sweet Soul Music" in the OP! Star

While I am here, I would like to dedicate this one to Alex . . .
