The more I hear about this case the sicker I feel. That poor poor girl. How did she get through it all?

Ameanstreakamilewide · 19/04/2020 09:44

I found out yesterday that this woman is a cousin of one of my husband's friends.

I mentioned this thread, to him, so he could pass on how much support she has here.

Tonz · 19/04/2020 09:51

I have no idea @MrsDoylesTeabags it is truly horrific with just the gang rape then add on what happened after with forced to retract statement and being put in jail herself all after being diagnosed with PTSD. What the fuck! She really is an amazing young woman to still be fighting to clear her name. Did you watch the documentary? Right at the end she says even if it takes 50 years she will get justice. I really hope she does. Her support system with her family and friends is strong as well they'll see her through to the end and I suspect a lot of woman and men from around the world will be cheering her on

TheQueef · 19/04/2020 09:57

The police initially just rounded up the guy she was seeing and his mates.
Not people she had identified just likely suspects by association.
Somehow because she couldn't identify some (because they weren't t here) this has become proof of her dishonesty.
Despite it being nothing to do with her statement.
Conveniently muddying waters.

theotherfossilsister · 19/04/2020 10:05

@CantRememberHoliday You are brave too, you survived something awful.

Groundedbyboris · 19/04/2020 10:38

I know what you mean Tonz I can't get my head around it at all. Yes I saw at the end when she said even if it takes 50 years. She deserves justice and I'm so glad she's going to fight for it. I wish I could help

finnmcool · 19/04/2020 11:01

Groundedbyboris I got my shovel out for her legal fees.

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 19/04/2020 11:20

No I didn't watch it yet Tonz something I need to work myself up to I think. She must be increadibly brave, I'm glad she has a good support system round her and I really hope she does get the justice she deserves.

Tonz · 19/04/2020 11:55

@MrsDoylesTeabags It's not the easiest watch but she explains herself really well. She fills in a lot of gaps and you can actually see in your head the story unfolding. Not gonna lie i used a lot of hankies but I watched because she put herself through the interview to get her story out. Her story will haunt me for a very long Time. Her friends come across very supportive of her as well. God I just can't imagine that poor girl barely an adult. Her strength is impressive

Groundedbyboris · 19/04/2020 12:02

@finnmcool Great!!! Do you know anywhere I could donate for her legal fees? If give her the shirt off my back.
@MrsDoylesTeaBags Yup definitely a hard watch but she wants us to hear it and yes Tonz I could totally see in my head what she and her friends were saying filled in a lot of blanks. Poor baby but yes she has Lions Courage

finnmcool · 19/04/2020 12:23

@Groundedbyboris I sent you a PM with the information.
I feel the same as you. I donated twice, the second time was after watching the programme, I'm just so disgusted with everything that has been done to that young woman.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/04/2020 12:28

I watched a Netflix documentary a little while back about girls who had been drug raped and their rape recorded and shared on social media. There was a police man on there who claimed lots of girls report rape "for the attention". This was in America, no wonder rape is so unreported when that is the attitude of law enforcement.

Is that "Audrie and Daisy"? That's a great documentary. Quite upsetting though.

Another similar shocker here.

But porn doesn't cause this so it's ok.

Tonz · 19/04/2020 12:42

@finnmcool could you send me it as well I've money I was saving to take kids on holiday this year might as well use it for something useful. I would love to help her on her way

SillyCow6 · 19/04/2020 12:51

Could I have the details to help this poor girl too please. It is sickening.

Tonz · 19/04/2020 13:00

@TheQueef Jesus!!! Where has my head been?? This is very disturbing! How many poor girls and women has this actually happened to. I feel sick to my stomach. These girls are all someone's daughter. Something needs to be done

finnmcool · 19/04/2020 13:29

PMs sent.

TheQueef · 19/04/2020 13:32

The older I get Tonz the more horrified I become at what passes for acceptable sexual behaviour.

I'm eternally glad I'm not a young woman growing up with violent abuse being normalised as it is now.

Tonz · 19/04/2020 13:59

*@TheQueef * I know what you mean I'm thankful that nothing like that happened to me I was always abroad with friends when I was young. I'm glad I didn't know half of what I know now or I'd maybe have thought twice and missed out on a lot of experiences. I have 2 young girls and I'm terrified of them growing up

Melroses · 19/04/2020 16:24

Me too. I can't bear to watch.

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 19/04/2020 17:13

Ereshkigalangcleg Yes thats the one. It made me cry, what a world we're living in. How can so many poor girls be abused and then failed so appallingly?

Terralee · 19/04/2020 19:19

Please be aware the same thing happens regularly in British holiday resorts, my sisters friend was a police officer in Bournemouth until he moved recently.
Nearly every weekend he was on duty there would be at least one young woman who reported being raped by several men, not usually locals, in a hotel.

The typical scenario is that the woman would meet an attractive man, get drunk with him & go back to his hotel room where the mates would be waiting.
The cases would Consistantly be thrown out by the CPS for all the usual reasons.
The police feel powerless especially because when they get to the hotels the men are usually very arrogant as they are fully aware that they will get away with it, & it's obvious from the victim's distress that her allegations are true.
So they make the men's arrests as unpleasant as possible because the officers find these cases so upsetting & get angry.
But the situation never even makes the local Echo.
Meanwhile (obviously not during lockdown) more hen & stag parties arrive & thousands of students flock to the town... totally unaware of the dangers.

The difference with the Cyprus case was the awful behaviour of the police towards the victim.
In this town the police are on the whole decent.
But the end result is the same. No prosecutions.

Tonz · 19/04/2020 19:26

I knew stuff like this went on but by fuck I didn't know the scale of it @Terralee. Everything I've learned about it in the last week has disgusted me. The world is not safe for my daughters

Terralee · 19/04/2020 19:34

Sorry @Tonz if I've upset you, but to be honest I have trust issues around men anyway.
Obviously since hearing about this from my sisters friend I've become super careful but I've had some bad experiences myself around men that should've been trustworthy.

I'm single and find dating really hard as a result.

Datun · 19/04/2020 19:51

Do we have to start telling our daughters to film every single interaction they have? Is this where it's heading?
