As a relatively new poster on here I'm shocked how this has received so much attention whilst the Rotherham sex scandal continues to be shushed by the very same people who claim to speak out against VAWG.

I've just read the thread and despite only having 20 replies, posters are already complaining about people focusing on one little scandal in Rochdale. It's disgusting.

Tachograph · 17/05/2020 14:24

The perpetrators in the above Rotheham case haven't even been properly charged and some of the victims are still seeing their abusers on the street. Dozens of girls plied with drugs and raped in our own country with no question of whether it was consensual and largely ignored on a feminist board.

Sickoffamilydrama · 17/05/2020 14:48

Tachograph there's been lots of talk on the boards about Rotherham it's actually where I first learnt about it.
Remember talking about one thing that concerns you doesn't mean that another thing doesn't concern you as well.

I agree that caring about these separate issues need not be mutually exclusive. I guess I'm just surprised that there is no outrage against the perpetrators walking the streets freely and unimpeded from reoffending. I can guarantee a thread about seeing a 15yo boy using the ladies toilet would get 10x the amount of attention!

There was another Rotherham thread a few days ago basically expressing shock that we're 'really letting this happen'. It has predictably dropped into the ether and the remaining one now has posters complaining about the poor perpetrators and how we're infringing on their culture because of 'one little scandal in Rotherham'.

Datun · 17/05/2020 15:13

because of 'one little scandal in Rotherham'.

That person was vehemently disagreed with by everyone else.

Sickoffamilydrama · 17/05/2020 15:16

There's been lots on the boards previously as with anything on here sometimes things will get lots of comments sometimes not. Also the busier a thread gets the more likely it is to pop up into active threads which causes even more people to see and comment on it, especially if the only use the site on a mobile.

I wouldn't take it as a barometer of how most on the board feel/ think about that issue.
