Police officer posts that 1 in 12 transwomen get murdered

Cliff Goodwin, who is an engagement officer at the College of Policing, seems to be using the pandemic to post wholly untrue statistics about trans people.

He's said that 1 in 12 transwomen get murdered (no mention of transmen) and that the figure rises to 1 in 8 if they're of colour. He also said 41% of trans people have tried to commit suicide.

In actual fact 7 transwomen have been murdered in the last decade (all by men and none for being trans. One was of colour. The number of women murdered by men in that time is well over 1,300).

The 41% figure has been debunked even by trans organisations like GIDS, who say the figure is actually less than 1%.

When it was pointed out to him that these stats were untrue he said they were international figures (they aren't - they're just made up) and he won't delete them because he wants to highlight the plight of trans people so they are visible (which makes no sense). He's an engagement advisor - but then started blocking ex police officers who said he shouldn't be lying - and noone was positively engaging with him.

What has happened to our police?

"After receiving a bombardment of in excess of 200+ trolling comments online in my plight to highlight #transawareness

Plight? What plight?

Trolling - meaning people saying this isn't true?

I can't even. There are real problems to worry about right now, this is silliness I don't have time for.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/04/2020 15:13

Sarah Phillimore has made a formal complaint. It's brilliant. twitter.com/SVPhillimore/status/1245330970015870977?s=20

Lordfrontpaw · 01/04/2020 15:16

I wouldn't hold my breath if I were her. Nice complaint through. I assume that HR departments are pretty wokey-woke though, and don't actually interact with their legal departments?

HorseRadishFemish · 01/04/2020 15:40

You'd think those lies told by the police would make transwomen feel unsafe but no...it's a bloody poster with the definition of woman. Or Julie Bindel. Or bloody pronouns..

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/04/2020 15:46

If they believed what the police were saying then it would make them feel unsafe. Clearly they do not.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/04/2020 15:49

Well, it's a formal complaint and she's a lawyer, so I can't see her letting this one go.

Thinking about the College of Policing chap, were people always this stupid and we just didn't know? Social media has shone a very bright spotlight on this, not to mention giving people an unprecedented opportunity to make fools of themselves in public.

BovaryX · 01/04/2020 15:54

Gadp0de
With regards to the police, I find it quite hard to fathom. They seem to have been completely colonised by this ideology. PC Gul's garbled statements about female brains in male embryos sounds like something that has been explicitly taught. Nobody could come up with that off the cuff. It's very alarming because what other nonsense is on the CPS' syllabus?

yetanotherusernameAgain · 01/04/2020 15:56

Is there a parallel between some police forces' actions on what they construe as 'transphobia' and recent interventions on people taking exercise during lockdown? ie over-zealous enforcement of 'guidance' or socially responsible behaviour on matters for which they don't actually have legal powers?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/04/2020 15:57

Well, the police in Yorkshire do seem to have been very keen to punish anyone they deem to be breaking lockdown, based on their idiosyncratic idea of what lockdown requires.

BovaryX · 01/04/2020 15:58

Harry Miller has said it's a direct response to the McPherson Report. Whatever its cause, the effect of this on the police is dire.

BovaryX · 01/04/2020 16:00

actions on what they construe as 'transphobia' and recent interventions on people taking exercise during lockdown?

I'm beginning to wonder whether the police prefer to pursue law abiding citizens like Harry Miller than actually pursuing violent criminals?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/04/2020 16:04

At this point if someone tried to claim that any statement referencing biological sex was forbidden under the coronavirus health protection guidelines I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised.

RedDogsBeg · 01/04/2020 16:11

This is really annoying me, I didn't think the Police could drop any lower in my estimation and then along comes Cliff Goodwin and Maria Stanley.

We've had a professional boxer upload a video on how to punch your wife or girlfriend and where is the condemnation from any Police Twitter or FB account? Why has no criminal action been taken against said boxer, not only for this incident but the others that have been widely publicised? There is just tumbleweed but we have been treated to to craven, wholly incorrect blather about Trans.

Now if said boxer had used the word transwoman in his 'How To' video, or if the Police who parrot TWAW truly believed that to be the case (because after all if TWAW then this video was inciting violence against them) then said Boxer would have had armed police storming his residence and dragging him out, but his actions didn't even warrant a phone call to 'check his thinking'.

The Police don't even pretend to be FOR women, they are actively and aggressively AGAINST women.

Michelleoftheresistance · 01/04/2020 16:13

Not believing unconditionally and obediently in made up stuff is 'hate'. Ooooooooookay then.

There's another word that's now lost all meaning.

BovaryX · 01/04/2020 16:22

That's true. It's frickin outrageous. It's so insane it's very hard to fathom how this is happening. Violence against women seems to be ignored, but thought crimes and Twitter spats are punished. I do not understand how this tiny niche lobby wield such power.

june2007 · 01/04/2020 16:29

Just to say hate the phrase "of colour" We all have a colour.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/04/2020 16:38

My theory, which is just a hunch, is that in the last 10 or 12 years there's been a huge cut in police funding but the police are still expected to keep up arrest rates. So they've gone for the easy targets. Tracking down burglars and so on is time-consuming and therefore expensive. Burglars tend to make efforts not to be caught. Thought criminals on the other hand are extremely easy to find, not least because it's never crossed their mind that they're doing anything the law might be interested in.

Goosefoot · 01/04/2020 16:43

I suspect there are a lot of elements that play into it, but I would say a lot is to do with the bad rep they have had for being backward and ignoring when disadvantaged people are hurt.

Lordfrontpaw · 01/04/2020 16:45

So instead of going back and doubling their efforts with women, ethnic minorities, etc they chose a vocal, demanding and on occasion violent/aggressive minority to adopt?

Kantastic · 01/04/2020 16:50

they chose a vocal, demanding and on occasion violent/aggressive minority

Well, this minority is largely white and male which seems to help their cause.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 01/04/2020 17:14

My understanding is that, in the UK, if you are Trans (by Stonewall definition) then you are more likely to be a murderer than to be murdered.

(But I could be wrong)

ThePankhurstConnection · 01/04/2020 17:31

There was a fashion during early Victorian times for affluent, fashionable and non working people to diet to be thin, wear make up to look pale, and to lie around languidly on couches, affecting the 'beauty' and drama of those dying of TB. It was called 'making oneself pale and interesting'.

I remember reading about this somewhere and with it a time when affecting this pale and wan demeanor was part of being the woman in the family taking on the morality of the household, she was somehow responsible for how everyone acted and took on the punishment for it (a kind of karmic idea) - I'm sure this was Victorian times too. If she was ill and weak she was doing her job well - again this was in affluent households. Mind you it was a good few years ago I read it so I may be remembering it with gaps. Interesting though and like people have said here heroin chic was reminiscent of it. Now identifying as the victim and listing all your ailments in your twitter bio seems to give some moral gravitas that it shouldn't have.

I saw the tweet in question and I think it is terrible he removed it claiming being trolled/bullied when all those responses did was point out the false stats. It is like we are living in this post truth world and not accepting that makes you a bad person or a bigot and that is a very worrying trend.

ThePankhurstConnection · 01/04/2020 17:33

The Police don't even pretend to be FOR women, they are actively and aggressively AGAINST women.

I think this is sadly the message they seem to be putting out there, both directly and indirectly.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 01/04/2020 17:42

Do you know what though, even if the statistics are true they don't say much on their own.

For example 47% transwomen attempt suicide. All that says is transwomen are likely to be depressed, it doesn't give any indication of why or what needs to be done to prevent it.

1 in 12 chance of murder - again we would need to know who and why they were getting murdered. I'm sure gang members have a high chance of getting murdered for example. As it turns out it's sex workers, and nothing to do with their trans status.

You can't just post some statistics and say 'more rights' without quantifying what you think those rights should be, and giving context to the statistics.

It's just performance wokeness, designed to guilt trip you but actually means fuck all.
