Mermaids is encouraging children to hide online searches from their parents

Surely this is a child safeguarding breach and is an example of child grooming?

The trans children charity Mermaids has created a button on its desktop website so that children can immediately jump to another web site if a parent comes into the room, presumably while either looking at Mermaids material or talking to someone at the charity, so they can lie to their parents that they were actually doing something else.

They've created this because more children are home at the moment during the coronavirus pandemic.

The charity has received further criticism in the last few days for not playing what could be an important role during COVID-19:

  • They should be telling transboys to ditch their binders until this is over - the binders constrict the chest and lead to breathing difficulties, something that's potentially fatal during a pandemic where the virus targets the lungs; but Mermaids have refused to do this.
  • They should be telling all young trans people to stay away from hospitals unless there's an emergency as non-essential treatment increases the risk of spreading the virus at the moment; Mermaids has not done this.
  • They have instead asked people to buy more food on Amazon and set Mermaids up as the charity to donate a percentage of the money spent to - ignoring all charities concerned with NHS staff or the elderly that desperate need cash injections at the moment.

Like many others I remain unconvinced that rejecting the box and attempting to switch boxes are in any way the same thing.

Can someone help me out with Digifest2020?

It looks like an event that happened earlier this month in Birmingham - something for educationalists about the possibilities of online learning?
www.jisc.ac.uk/events/digifest-10-mar-2020/about

But - Mermaids have just created another Digifest2020? twitter.com/Mermaids_Gender/status/1243202298672750593

Or are these two things actually the same?

Or are these two things actually the same?

No I dont think so

Mermaids' tweet:
"We're proud to announce Digifest 2020 in support of Mermaids: the UK's biggest LGBT+ live-streaming festival of celebrities, live music and discussion. Get April 4th in your diary! "

(seems noone thought to check the name first)

Someone needs to disband this organization. It's potentially very dangerous.

Transgender advocacy maintains the social hierarchy while redefining homophobia and misogyny as progressive.
Mermaids Green admits the husbands homophobia was the reason for what she did to the child. Profiting from child abuse makes my skin crawl.

Have concerns about child safety? Here are some of the responses from the Penises at Penis News.

Threats of violence and dehumanising language work so well to convince people eh?

I think a check on each and every one of their hard drives would be sensible.

The thing I don’t get is that if your (“you” being a Mermaids supporter) primary concern is for trans identified children to be safe and secure, why do you not demand better from Mermaids?

They have had several terrible data breaches involving extremely sensitive data relating to children,

They hand wave about the potentially inappropriate contact between minors and adults in their support groups

They have veered from being supporters of watchful waiting for children to advocating for an earlier and much more aggressively medicalised treatment path

They have (I think) continuing relationships with GPs who have been struck off the medical register

One of their former officers pursued legal action against a transsexual person

Their CEO is on record in a TED talk laughing about her child’s stunted genitals, and explaining how her husbands homophobia played a significant role in their child’s transition.

They campaign for under age children to be able to be prescribed cross sex hormones, with no age limit, basing this on the perception that pre teen children will be able to correctly assess the impact of this decision on their lives. Their CEO denies that this amounts to sterilising these children (how could it not?).

They misrepresent statistics on suicide and discuss the matter in exactly the way that the Samaritans recommends it is not discussed (for example, attributing suicide to one factor).

Why don’t you want better from this group? Why do you continue to accept such shoddy organisation and poor standards? Do you think that they do the best by the children that they say they want to help?
