Yes, really. He retweeted Zoe Williams article as a ‘powerful defense (sic) of trans rights’ and has gone on in replies to demonstrate he has zero understanding of what the issues are here. Keeps complaining about ‘negative stereotypes’. He’s stuck way back in ‘be kind, men are nasty to transsexuals in prison so let anyone self-identify into women’s prison’.

Many women & some men well on the way to ratio-ing him, but will he listen?

Genderwang, genderwang, genderwang. Just repeating it to myself so i remember to use it next time. The best part is Robert Webb is one of us Grin

Mockerswithnoknockers · 14/03/2020 10:07

BB very much resembling Corbyn and Livingstone, all Lefties who failed all their exams but learned to parrot pre-digested received arguments masquerading as wisdom. Zero ability to critically evaluate anything.

The position seems to be: Most Transwomen Are Women, and there will be as yet uninvented systems in place to identify the ones that aren't allowed to Self-ID.

SunsetBeetch · 21/03/2020 02:32

This is ace.

I've rewritten one of my favourite songs by @billybragg a classic...hope I've done it justice!

Billy, is a man who through his music taught me to fight for what I believe in 💕 Thank you, I just wouldn't be me without your music 🙃 t.co/zZr1KMlsOI

Very good Sunset

SunsetBeetch · 21/03/2020 16:45

Nehnanda, the woman in that video, has very recently peaked. She talks about her journey here (sorry for the detail but it's ba good thread):

youllhavehadyourtea · 21/03/2020 17:41

genderwang. love it.

so many uses. 'Oh do stop genderwanging on...' a politer one.

Lordfrontpaw · 21/03/2020 17:45

genderwangering
Genderwangerer
Genderwangerite

I rather like that.

Mockerswithnoknockers · 21/03/2020 17:50

Nehnanda is a star. Her posts are superb. Her comparison with race is very telling.

SunsetBeetch · 21/03/2020 18:03

From Karen Ingala Smith:

"Here’s Shonagh Glen singing Between the Wars, the perpetual sex war version. Tune by ⁦*@billybragg*⁩, words by Billy Bragg with interference from me! t.co/hGGitBjArx "

"Taking the side of the oppressed has long been feminism’s raison d’etre. Amid an explosion of misogyny in public life, compassion and unity are more important than ever."

Well that's nice, Zoe. Yes, nice. Always be nice. Nice nice nice.

You know what? I'm done being nice. When women are losing their right to speak out, to compete fairly in sport, to not feel threatened by male-bodied people in private spaces, the time for nice is over.

Feminism is not about including trans. They already appropriated the LGB movement and now want to centre themselves in feminism?

No. Just no.

SunsetBeetch · 22/03/2020 16:00

So some people (disappointingly, young women by the looks of it) tried to grass Nehandra up to Billy Bragg saying he should sue her (!) and, fair play to him, he wasn't having it.

"He should sue her tbh"

"He can and should. But of course they will then moan about being silenced."

twitter.com/misschazmatazz/status/1241556868973150219?s=19

"Hi Cassie, please tell @NehandaMusic that I'm fine with her parody and the others that have been put up in the past week. As we all know, if you put something provocative on Twitter, you're going to provoke a reaction from people who disagree. But lawsuits? No "

Nehanda's Billy Bragg parody is fabulous! Grin

twitter.com/NehandaMusic/status/1241120955201716229

Of course, Nehanda is just another grey-haired, wrinkled, bitter and twisted, middle-aged, menopausal, ugly, jealous of all those stunning and brave, white feminist, etc. etc. . . . (snigger!!) Grin

I'M EVERY WOMAN (party for one)

Here's you, Nehanda! Wine

LadyQuarantinaPluckington · 22/03/2020 18:40

I particularly enjoyed the artist who won an award for some art she did which was feminism related, who called for Bragg to sue Nehanda, and when she got negative attention said that the people criticising her were so 'basic' they didn't understand she was using 'sue' in that other well known way of 'just telling someone to stop doing something' and suggested Nehanda make her points with the songs of people who agree with her, illustrating that this artist doesn't understand what 'sue' means, or what 'parody' and 'satire' means.

Said artist's arse was lightly sauted before being handed back to her.Grin

Mockerswithnoknockers · 22/03/2020 19:25

Did she write her name in wee?

Durgasarrow · 22/03/2020 20:07

You can't sue for parodies, can you? I don't think you can in the U.S., anyway, despite very tough copyright laws. Well, I guess you can sue. But you can't win.

"Taking the side of the oppressed" is not what feminism is about. Women aren't running around desperately looking for a boo-boo to fix. We aren't the Sunshine Squad, we aren't the happy helpers, we aren't the world's cheerleaders or the Comforters-in-Chief. The cause of feminism is females. Shamelessly advocating for female human beings to have justice and freedom in this world.

Lordfrontpaw · 22/03/2020 20:16

If you can sue for parodies, someone had better tell Weird Al Yankovic.

RoyalCorgi · 22/03/2020 20:18

You can't sue for parodies, can you?

On the whole, no:

www.copyrightuser.org/understand/exceptions/parody-pastiche/

"UK Copyright Law, implementing the EU Copyright Directive, provides an exception to copyright ‘for the purposes of caricature, parody or pastiche’. This means that in principle it is possible to create parodies that re-use works protected by copyright without having to obtain permission from the rightsholders. However, it is important to note that the use of copyright works for parody purposes is only allowed insofar as it can be considered ‘fair dealing’. How much copying from a work is fair or unfair is an issue ultimately decided by a court of law taking into account the interests and rights of the copyright owner as well as the freedom of expression of the person relying upon the parody exception. In making this decision, a court will typically take a number of different factors into account, such as the amount of the work that has been copied."

Billy Bragg knows full well that a) he probably wouldn't win if he sued Nehanda and b) if he sued, he would just look like an utter see you next Tuesday.

LadyQuarantinaPluckington · 22/03/2020 20:36

Yes, we all know that there are no legs in Bragg trying to sue Nehanda, including Bragg and to be fair to him, I don't think he even would have given the idea headspace.

What's funny about this is the arsehole clamouring for Bragg to sue and then attempting to backtrack and save face by suggesting everyone else was too stupid to know she was using a special definition of sue which didn't mean what we thought it meant. I love a dumbarse backtrack in lieu of a retraction.

AutumnRose1 · 22/03/2020 20:50

Just came on to see if someone had posted that song
Good for her!

Justhadathought · 22/03/2020 22:18

If Billy Bragg was to sue, he'd find himself having to know what he was talking about pretty quickly.......and defend it. He doesn't; he can't; and he won't.

AutumnRose1 · 22/03/2020 22:19

Isn’t it on her Twitter feed, he said he won’t?

DidoLamenting · 22/03/2020 22:54

To be fair to Billy Bragg he has made it clear he won't sue.

As for, Chardine Taylor-Stone, however yet another intolerant, dictatorial leftie to keep an eye on.

Sheeshsheesh · 23/03/2020 00:31

Oh the irony. Just watched Dagenham - the industrial action that led to the Equal Pay Act and the title song comes on at the end sung by Sandie Shaw and written by Billy Bragg. Because Billy was your go to man for all that was Left and lovely. I haven’t looked at the lyrics. But yeah all those battles fought for women to get Equal Pay. Men know a lot about that don’t they. All those poor Transwomen getting paid less... oh hang on that never happened 😂

bettybeans · 23/03/2020 02:18

Chardine is an absolute chancer.
Malicia got a little snotty too... funny how these allegedly left wing feminist progressives are so quick do abandon leftist feminist principles isn't it?
