Twitter's just bollocks, though. Honestly. Something 'trending' on Twitter means less than a fart in the wind.

canterburytales · 08/03/2020 17:48

Happy International Women's Day, may we be them, may we know them, may we raise them.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 08/03/2020 17:48

Buzz.

In case anyone was wondering, I couldn't get the time off work, but I did want to go to Speakers corner, and my last post, bar the sage judgement of Twitter, is what I would have said.

BiologyIsReal · 08/03/2020 17:52

Late to the party but Happy IWD vixens.

PS do bugger off Robin. You are making the thread look untidy.

GroggyLegs · 08/03/2020 17:53

Twitter is a sewer, but it also had this thread from @therestofus5 today which I think is AMAZING, number 4 in particular sang to me.

I'm not concerned about TWAW trending. When you actually look at the hashtag, a large proportion of tweets are disagreeing with that statement. I actually feel quite positive about it. Trending might not mean much but if it raises the issue for some people not usually involved in the conversation, it's a positive.

theflushedzebra · 08/03/2020 18:05

That would have been a great speech Floral Wine

Happy International Women's Day!

Thank you all for being here.

AuntieRae · 08/03/2020 18:43

@FloralBinting I love your comment. I've swung between joy at some of the stuff in the press and on social media today and complete despair. Your comment has put a smile on my face and a glimmer of hope in my heart Flowers

rednsparkley · 08/03/2020 18:48

coyoacan
I don't think we can underestimate the importance that this feminist board has played in getting the information out there and educating thousands upon thousands of us. I for one would like to thank you all for my education.

This ⬆️⬆️

This board has been an amazing place of information and support for me personally and has given me the confidence to speak out at work and in public. Thank you all. Happy IWD all you wonderful Adult Human Females FlowersGinFlowers

theflushedzebra · 08/03/2020 18:57

So true, coyoacan and rednsparkley

They don't consistently and furiously try and shut us down for nothing Grin

It's because this board, and high profile feminists, journalists and even twitterers have been banging on about this for years.

Without this board, and twitter feminists, I think all the Aimee/David Challenor stuff could have just been swept under the carpet by the Green Party.

This board has held high quality political analysis on all facets of the impact of GRA amendment on women's rights - by brilliant feminists - and has been part of raising awareness, and definitely part of the reason the GRA Consultation has been so thoroughly challenged.

I am indebted to the women on FWR Thanks

Men cannot be women.

Woman is not some man's feeling.

Do these words really count as an 'attack on transwomen'?

On another note, I notice BBC Sport has an article about how female athletes have periods! It's 2020, saying that women are not men is deemed an attack yet the BBC has noticed that women have different bodies to men. Who'd have thunk it?

Happy IWD everyone, and thanks to all those who inadvertently prove why it still needs to exist - cheers!

midgebabe · 08/03/2020 19:00

Raising my glass to each and every one, the activists, the explainers and thinkers and the lurkers who are keeping the numbers up.

Floisme · 08/03/2020 19:02

There are some women I love and a lot who make me laugh but there are also some I don't much like or trust and some whom frankly, I cannot stand.
And I'm sure there are some who would say the same about me, which is fine.
We're not perfect, we're just adult human females, nothing more, nothing less.
Wine to you all.

TheSmelliestHouse · 08/03/2020 19:06

Happy IWD and thank you to MN, and this board, as in my 50s I have suddenly found myself to be a fervent feminist. I spent my earlier decades thinking that the lovely women of earlier years had fought the good fight and the battles were all won, and that I and my daughters would be able to enjoy equality etc.
I am terrified by the dissolution of hard won women's rights and will fight to preserve those that exist and push for those that do not, so my daughter and grand daughters can live feeling safe that the lovely women of earlier years made a safe fair world for them to live in.

Happy IWD y’all.
I’m treating myself to some stickers.

Winesalot · 08/03/2020 19:20

I’d love some stickers ... but not the insanely scary mermaid stickers that AesopsFable suggested.... they were nightmarish...

However, the other unique coffee swilling mermaid kind would be great or I might track down some Woman definition ones.

Winesalot · 08/03/2020 19:21

That would be AesopsFable’s suggestion from a different thread not this one and I won’t post the picture as it still makes my skin crawl... as does the organization.

ISaySteadyOn · 08/03/2020 19:32

Happy IWD to all you vipers. I mostly lurk but I think you are all brilliant and I know where to come if I need some feminist support.

eyestightshut · 08/03/2020 19:32

Another lurker stepping into the light - thank you fellow Adult human females for your work on these boards, educating us about the rights and wrongs we experience and giving me the knowledge and power to stand up for Womanhood. Happy IWD!

Daughterofmabel · 08/03/2020 19:46

Happy IWD one and all. This last year has been amazing for me- getting back into activism just feels so right. Onwards and upwards!

JollyYellaHumberElla · 08/03/2020 19:51

To all you wonderful women on this board.
To all of those we have lost.
To all of you lurking and willing us on in spirit.

I’m raising a glass to you now.
Happy International Women’s Day.

Floisme, I'm letting my background theology colour my statement with the word 'love' in my comment, you know. For me, it doesn't signify like, or affection or fond feeling. It's an action, a verb, very much an active choice to seek the highest good for another, even if they are a total dick. It doesn't imply anything more than solidarity in femaleness, in the context I meant it.
