What practical positive step are you taking to advance the position on women on IWD?

Doing my darndest to ensure woman always and only refers to ADULT HUMAN FEMALES

You cant have womens rights if you cant define what a woman is.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 08/03/2020 10:56

To all you wonderful argumentative, opinionated, sweary, vicious, kind, sweet, strong women, I salute you all and wish you a wonderful International WOMEN’S Day. That includes the ones I’ve fought with, swore at and fell out with. This day belongs to all the adult human females.

OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg · 08/03/2020 10:57

Let’s not let this brilliant thread be derailed by arguing with someone who wants exactly that sort of disruption. Let’s concentrate on celebrating the myriad awesome adult human females we respect and admire.

GroggyLegs · 08/03/2020 11:09

I do think, once you're in the first throws of openly & unapologetically saying you dont give a fuck about men's hurty feels, it's hard to keep your trap shut when one pipes up. It's like that moment when you become a feminist & your world shifts from centering men to women - everything's so weirdly obvious & clear all of a sudden & you want to shout it from the rooftops.

I will listen to the sisters that paved the way for me though. On this, the 'International Day of the WOMAN'!

I appreciate so many women who have put so much on the line for me this year, often at great cost.
My respect for you & your bravery is immense.

RobinMoiraWhite · 08/03/2020 11:10

You just couldn’t give us one day, could you Robin? A whole month of celebration for trans people, but women aren’t even permitted one day.

Well, T0tallyFuckedUpFamily, if the thread had started with a celebration of work to advance women's rights (as a number of other discussion groups I am part of have done) and not an attack on trans women, I might agree with you. But that is exactly where it started. So dont expect me to be 'kindly accepting' of such a nasty place to start. How about a celebration of things organisations have done to honour women and their achievements this year? Nope, lets have a pop at trans women.

Signing this petition is another good step! One that ‘Clarify and further enshrine in law the legal definitions of 'Woman' and 'Sex' in order to make current legislation clear and unambiguous and ensure data used to inform government policy is correctly recorded.’

Even better now that their Twitter account is unblocked. Fancy that, an account for women being blocked on IWD.

I agree totally that IWD is for women and not for those (men) who perceive themselves to be women but I'm in the minority with my partner (male) refusing to argue the point as we both get angry and DD1 who includes everyone who identifies as female. I find it most depressing.

LynnSchmob · 08/03/2020 11:20

We are not celebrating organisations but women.

Robin - your big day is the 31st of this month. You can celebrate that. Without us.

Deliriumoftheendless · 08/03/2020 11:21

Solidarity sisters!

This.

Thelnebriati · 08/03/2020 11:26

One day for women.

Only a misogynist would not support IWD.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/03/2020 11:30

Indeed. But we know there are plenty of those.

Winesalot · 08/03/2020 11:35

Telling my teenage daughter of her own mother’s recent experiences of being denied jobs, promotions for being a woman of child bearing age. Of being fired while pregnant with that teen. Of putting up with discrimination all my life for being a biological female. For being dismissed for a hysterical female for heavy periods, severe pre-menstrual issues and then later severe morning sickness.

What practical positive step are you taking to advance the position on women on IWD?

I have reminded her as she does not have to be kind when it means even the slightest erosion of her safety, health and her opportunities....

.... and that I, and those women who are bravely speaking out to encourage me to also speak out, will not leave her generation behind !

I have not done enough, by any means... and I acknowledge that!

What practical positive step are you taking to advance the position on women on IWD?

StuckBetweenDarknessAndLight · 08/03/2020 11:44

Soldarity sisters.
RIP Magdalene, still very missed.
And also to Lang and all the other feminists who have been banned for speaking the truth.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 08/03/2020 11:44

I’m going to carry on fighting for our sex-based rights, like I’ve been doing for years now.

I went to an all-women conference for my industry recently and it was fantastic. General agreement of how great it was to be doing something just for our sex and not a gender in sight.

Heshehe · 08/03/2020 11:50

Happy International Women’s Day. Still so much more work to do for women All over the world. Keep up the fight!

RobinMoiraWhite · 08/03/2020 11:54

LynnSchmob. Still makes no sense to me. I celebrate my Breton heritage without being anti-French or anti-European. Do we not rise without finding some other group to trample in the climb?

And to those who say they want a definition of ‘woman’ to celebrate IWD - great idea, but let’s have one that works. What do you think that is?

Kit19 · 08/03/2020 11:55

Happy IWD formless voids Grin

Despite not being a mum, this is the place I feel most at home :) I thought I was going mad out there till I found you all!

Kit19 · 08/03/2020 11:55

And yes ignore the merail

Woman

We have a definition already

Woman
noun
Adult human female

WickedlyPetite · 08/03/2020 12:04

Woman
noun
Adult human female

Yep, that definition works just fine for me.

Happy International Womens Day all you adult human females.

Winesalot · 08/03/2020 12:06

I think that we should claim IWD back from being this corporatised, fully branded and themed version.

TotorosFurryBehind · 08/03/2020 12:11

Happy IWD!

As I near the end of my year of maternity leave, I am so proud of what my body has accomplished in growing, birthing and continuing to nurture (via bf) my own little woman.

I am so grateful for the hard work and sacrifices of women before me, who have fought for the rights I have. At the same time, the past year has strengthened my resolve as a feminist that we still have such a long way to go to achieve equality, not just for ourselves, but for all the women and girls around the world.
