rogdmum · 23/02/2020 09:22

Well, not branded as story hour, but the drag queen is reading a story to primary school children... Brought in by an MP (Mhairi Black)

“Thank you to Flow and @MhairiBlack for sharing their experiences with us today. It was really important to hear about Section 28 and the negative effect it had. Thankfully now we teach #LGBTEducation proudly at @Glencoats_PS #LGBTQProud @LGBTYS @LGBTHistoryScot

Exactly what happened with Moffat.

I think some are blinkered to appropriate boundaries, within the lgbtq community.

It was a lesbian couple who started drag queen story time in the first place in the us.

I've banged in about this before; don't rely on senior staff being able to be gatekeepers. They may be the ones promoting all this, although with good intentions, to make same sex relationships seem ok.

Schools get carried away with trying to be "mega creative" and then loose sight of concrete purposeful learning and in the case of lgbtq, appropriate boundaries.

Also, I wonder if they're doing a "mark." Eg stonewall or similar.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 07:57

At least in a workplace colleagues could tell them to shut up...

I think the head may have been the one leading in this.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 08:01

Looks like the school have had "training."

Abitofanexpert · 24/02/2020 08:03

Teaching in schools about LGBT should surely just be 'some families have 2 daddies/mummies etc' and making that normal and completely fine, even if it's not something the child has come across before.

We're talking about children aged 4 - 12 here, they should be gluing loo rolls to cereal boxes and reciting times tables surely.

I'm not sure why any school needs to have an LGBT charter in the first place. The irony, as has been pointed out by others, is that the extreme trans fringe can be damaging to some LGBT people.

I feel such futile anger and fear about all this, with nowhere really to direct it. It's a dangerous enough agenda in our society at large without bringing it into schools and warping the fresh, fragile minds of youngsters about what is acceptable.

Tootsweets23 · 24/02/2020 08:09

Not a Wings fan at all, but he's pulled together a range of images here. His reach with Nationalist voters is v broad/deep, so the comments are indicative of how angry this is making usual SNP supporters.

Further down the thread people are contacting the local council who has responded with requests for more details.

Durgasarrow · 24/02/2020 08:14

From what I've read a lot of drag queens are conservative heterosexual men with a fetish for wearing women's clothing. This is not appropriate for children. And it is really not appropriate to force it on children in school.

CallofDoodee · 24/02/2020 08:40

I work in a school and would say the following are 2 pretty helpful rules of thumb when deciding on a primary school visitor:

  1. if you cannot introduce the visitor by the name they are generally known by, and have to shorten it, because that name is sexually explicit, then they are not suitable for a school visit.

  2. if you cannot tag your school visitor in your tweet about their visit because their twitter handle is sexually explicit and leads to their twitter page which is also sexually explicit, then they are not suitable for a school visit.

Simple but effective.

SamSeabornforPresident · 24/02/2020 08:42

The most important thing we can teach kids is to break down their boundaries and learn that their role is to validate adults’ feelings

This is what's concerning me - that the needs of the children have been completely lost in this desperate desire to be 'woke' and not to offend anyone (which is difficult in itself as there are some who are so desperate to be offended). As a pp said, what's wrong with teaching children that some children have two mummies or two daddies and that's that? Everyone's different and we respect that?
Much of the charter is about staff being trained, engagement with parents and displaying posters etc - I'm not aware of drag queens being compulsory.

jadefinch · 24/02/2020 09:00

I'm sure this has already been mentioned but I've just seen that the children who attended have been photographed and the images broadcast all over Instagram on an adult sex entertainer's page - and the former CEO of LGBT Youth Scotland is a convicted child rapist.

How many red flags are needed?

Also, actor David Paisley, who has a history of abusing women online in the name of trans rights, has responded to a parent who has tweeted that she wasn't informed about this event, saying he will also be going into schools to do some LGBT teaching to children.

Parents have got to stand up to this concerted effort to break down safeguarding barriers - I don't think the authorities have the guts to do it.

Abitofanexpert · 24/02/2020 09:07

Interesting that the Wings guy is against this. I was very much opposed to his stance/propoganda in the Indy ref but more in line with him on this for sure. Good that's he's taking a stance.

I saw one of the tweets in response mentioned the Starbucks fundraising for Mermaids. I saw that the other day and left. Plenty more coffee shops in Edinburgh!

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 09:20

I have explained to DS about the Starbucks thing - he and his pals go for hot chocolate after school and sports and are now going to a local independent cafe instead.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 09:24

Interesting and horrifying Jade.

Lgbt Scotland have clearly been into the school and captured it.

School website:

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 09:26

Christ, look at the lgbt Scotland charter:

blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/re/public/glencoatsprimary/uploads/sites/2371/2019/10/LGBT-Schools-Charter-Standards-e-use-003.pdf

The "practice" part. DQST clearly comes under that part along with eliminating single sex toilets and changing areas.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 09:28

Looks like they're going for gold level.

Languishingfemale · 24/02/2020 09:30

Good grief - this:

"Miss Watson, Miss Harvey and a group of pupils are the champion group working towards our LGBT Schools Charter Bronze Status. The award is to recognise our journey to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender inclusion at Glencoats Primary School. The group will meet four times a year as a minimum but they will organise events and learning opportunities for the whole school"

Are they on glue? What "journey" are they taking 5, 6 & 7 years olds on in relation to LGBT rights fgs?

definitelygc · 24/02/2020 09:31

Is there any evidence that putting up rainbows reduces homophobia? It's a while since I was at school but what we desperately needed were gay and lesbian role models who looked and sounded like normal, everyday people. As teenagers we didn't know any gay or lesbian people so our heads were full of damaging stereotypes. The idea that a gay drag queen by the name of "Flow Job" would have reduced homophobia at my school is absolutely ludicrous. It would have made it ten times worse for boys struggling with their sexuality.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 09:37

langushing, look at the charter - it states they must meet 4 times a year.

They're following the structure set out by the lgbtq charter.

This is why AUTHORITIES should be reviewing all these charters and marks. Anyone can create one.

The head has clearly bought into it, or funding has been provided from elsewhere, which is possible, and they're trying to hit all the evidence to get the mark.

I've done enough of these bloody mark / charter things to know.

It'll be in the school improvement plan or what ever they're called in Scotland. The 2-5 year plan of how the school will go forward.

Ironically these charters and marks are to impress ofsted and parents.

Languishingfemale · 24/02/2020 09:43

Indeed NeuroTrashwarrior- this is a model of institutional capture. And specifically aimed at primary children. Look at the expectations - and the hours of commitment required from the majority of staff and children??!!
I'd put money on it that the training for safeguarding in primary schools only receives a fraction of the time and attention - and won't have a charter mark to go with it.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 09:48

It's impossible to monitor anymore.

The tories have destroyed the LEAs which used to be the main deliverers of many types of training and cpd.

I have no idea how many private companies now may actually be delivering the safeguarding training, as is a great deal of cpd across all subjects now. I know my LEA have been different and been able to retain a relatively centralised structure.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 09:52

Whole separate book list for just teaching trans.

"Red, a crayons story" was not written as a trans book ffs.

The author has dyslexia and wrote it in response to his experiences being labelled stupid when growing up.

Languishingfemale · 24/02/2020 09:54

And with the unions all captured, there's no one at the top who has not been captured / charter marked or is just petrified of being called a bigot. The NAHT (headteacher's union) has some awful guidance - the type that says any women who don't want to share toilets and changing rooms with 50 year old PE teacher Stan who transitioned to Thomasina last week is a bigot and must move. Angry

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 10:01

Wtf?! Angry

MadamePewter · 24/02/2020 10:04

This is all terrifying 😢

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 10:19

I notice nowhere has come up with a "dyslexia story hour" anywhere?!

Which quite frankly would be faaaaaar more inclusive and worthwhile.

Grown ups with dyslexia doing a story time and talking about how they have coped with the stigma and overcome difficulties, recognised their talents and succeeded in life.

CallofDoodee · 24/02/2020 10:21

Oh my god, I thought Flowjob had covered the faces of the kids on his Instagram but he hasn't! And parents weren't informed about this visit?!

I have to say when I tick the box at my own kids school to say I'm OK with them being on social media, I don't expect their faces to appear on the public Instagram of an adult entertainer. Jesus.
