Well, not branded as story hour, but the drag queen is reading a story to primary school children... Brought in by an MP (Mhairi Black)

“Thank you to Flow and @MhairiBlack for sharing their experiences with us today. It was really important to hear about Section 28 and the negative effect it had. Thankfully now we teach #LGBTEducation proudly at @Glencoats_PS #LGBTQProud @LGBTYS @LGBTHistoryScot

Not only is it terrifying, not only is it a WTF moment, not only does it raise the question as to whether or not people are on glue, but it’s all being facilitated by a Member of Parliament.

Mhairi Black. Organising. Supporting. Retweeting the LGBT Youth Scotland “outrage” about being called out for this. This is an elected official FFS. She retweeted this:

Thankful to see sanity in the replies.

Yes to dyslexia story hour - what a great idea - I'm sure the % of kids who are dyslexic is many multiples of the number of kids who are trans. Yet, nothing. Why?

And this really shouldn't need saying, but very young children don't have sexual feelings. I certainly didn't until I'd gone through puberty. It's one of the problems with puberty blockers and cross sex hormones that children who have taken them may never have normal sexual function because that only fully develops through puberty. So why are they exploring sexuality with little kids? Not only is it anti-safeguarding it's anti -science. Two mummies and daddies, fine, some people marry same sex and some opposite, fine. But you don't get into sexual attraction until later on when they're at a point that they can understand.

I find it difficult to believe there isn't a dangerous 'queer' agenda here.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 10:54

Also, kids who dress up just for fun shouldn't be taught to be equating it with sexuality.

It's just dressing up ffs.

Is Mhairi Black on Putin's payroll? She might as well be.

LGBT youth Scotland state they work with children 13 - 25 year olds. So what are they doing delivering charters to primary schools anyway.

Languishingfemale · 24/02/2020 11:22

RunSkipJump
It's overreach. A predominant feature of an ideology that takes a perfectly reasonable demand - that people should be able to live / present themselves as they choose with the full protection of the law and free from harassment - but morphs into a Stasi like policing of others and an insistence that this is the most vulnerable and hence important group. Social media has enabled this to be policed with anyone who raises objections - no matter how rational - being hounded off platforms, silenced and their jobs threatened.
And this leads us to this frightening framework for ensuring compliance by the very youngest in society:

What the fuck indeed.

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 11:48

Those defending (well screaming ‘bigot’ and anyone who doesn’t think this is a fabuloso idea) appear to be young and without kids. What exactly do they know about small kids? I know the promoted appears to the the present HT.

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 11:49

LGBT youth Scotland - the one whose old head... y’know? That group? And no one thought to go through what they/he have been pushing and promoting?

SauceForTheGander · 24/02/2020 11:55

FlowJob's Instagram feed is SO bad. If my child appeared on that time time, in their school uniform and faces totally expose & with those hashtags, I'd be so upset. There's men in drag sticking their hands up their crotches .....can we please ditch the specious argument (that I see on Twitter a lot) - that this is the same a Panto Dames now please - fgs.

I don't think a child can consent to being posted on an open public forum anyway - but unless parents have signed approval for their child to appear on this particular Instagram account then the school staff should not allow it. Am sure the school will double down and claim everyone opposing is transphobic or homophobic... (which is ironically, actually homophobic to assume that this is a gay rights issue).

SauceForTheGander · 24/02/2020 11:55

I mean time line obvs .... not sure what happened there...

nauticant · 24/02/2020 11:58

It's interesting how this is playing out on twitter. Those against drag queens in primary schools can talk about safeguarding of children and come across as talking sense and can easily distinguish their comments from slurs of transphobia or homophobia. Those supporting drag queens in schools come across and dogmatic and as putting ideology above children's safety. Any sparkly-rainbow-inclusive tweet can immediately be sunk below the waterline with one of many NSFW images, for example at the milder end of the range:

Many people who would normally robotically chant support will know better than to avoid supporting that.

jadefinch · 24/02/2020 11:59

LGBT Scotland's charter includes 'address IT issues which prevent young people from accessing LGBT related websites'.

Their own website promotes adult sex entertaining drag acts - presumably this also means get rid of filters that prevent children accessing pornography?

SunsetBeetch · 24/02/2020 12:11

Dreadful, tone deaf tweet from Mhairi Black:

"You just know that the people pretending to be livid that a drag queen read a book in a school in my mentions rn are also the people who run out to buy their kids the latest Grand Theft Auto on release day. Your homophobia is transparent."

Drag Queen Story Hour in Scottish Primary School
Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 12:13

Well, I had a look at the school twitter feed and on the surface, it looks like a school for LGBT kids.

I've never seen so many rainbow gifs and weeping 'your all wonderful!' cutie tweets in my life (ignore the haters/trolls/bogots'). Safeguarding isnt a word they use. Very one sided, no concerned addressed at all.

You'd never think it was for primary school-aged kids. I don't think I saw any tweets in this carefully managed tread from any of the parents.

The schools website does address their LGBT charter (thanks lgbT youth scotland - they aren't youths they are kids btw).

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 12:14

'Alternatively you could just shout "oh look a squirrel". I hear that sometimes works. Or you could stay on point. This was an embarrassing lapse of judgement. Drag Queens are "adult entertainers". There is nothing homophobic about questioning their involvement in schools.' - funny reply to numpty black's tweet,

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 12:17

I think, from what I've seen on SM, the head is in a same sex relationship. Which is great but completely unnecessary to do all this extra crap. And rainbows and hearts etc.

Not very professional.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 12:21

It's hit the press...

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 12:26

'SNP MP and LGBTQ+ campaigner Mhairi Black' uhuh.

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 12:29

Apparently the kids asked for it. They have a Rainbow League.

When I was at school we would have been asking for ice cream for lunch and a cartoon club.

definitelygc · 24/02/2020 12:37

I'm shocked by that Mhairi Black tweet. Does she realise she's an MP? You can't make such sweeping, unfounded statements about the general public being homophobes and buying their kids adult-rated video games. I hope she is made to apologise for that, how dare she.

IrmaFayLear · 24/02/2020 12:43

Since when did safeguarding become bigoted? Confused

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 12:45

I am getting quite worried about the calibre of female politicians we hear from these days. Is there an action plan to make female politicians look stupid and say dumb things? There definitely seems to be a higher % of female MPs spouting this guff than males.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/02/2020 12:46

Apparently the kids asked for it. They have a Rainbow League.

Asked for what?

If they ask to watch a 15 film on film night do we say, ok sure!

Languishingfemale · 24/02/2020 12:47

Lordfrontpaw
According the the charter mark "guidance" those children in the Rainbow League must receive between 3.5 hours - 1 day of "LGBT awareness" training from LGBT Scotland depending on the level of accreditation they receive.
So many questions:
Is the training paid for? Do the trainers have enhanced DBS checks? What qualifications do the trainers have in training primary children in LGBT issues? Are all the other protected characteristics given the same level of commitment and training amongst staff and pupils? If not, why not? How much time is devoted to safeguarding training?
Charter mark requirements here:
