Transgender Rights is the topic of tonight’s episode.

Woman’s Place have tweeted that they are taking part and that the Labour pledge (and slurs against WPUK and LGB Alliance) will be discussed.

The panel who will debate are Michael Portillo, Mona Siddiqui, Anne McElvoy and Rachel Mann.

I haven't been this excited in quite a long time Grin Blush

TulipsTulipsTulips · 19/02/2020 06:51

Thank you for flagging this!

NeurotrashWarrior · 19/02/2020 06:54

Excellent

Cwenthryth · 19/02/2020 07:33

‘Witnesses’ interviewed by the panel will be Jane Fae, Graham Linehan, Torr Robinson and Kiri Tunks

Rachel Mann (born 1970) is a British Anglican priest, poet and feminist theologian. She is a trans woman who writes, speaks and broadcasts on a wide range of...

What with Mona Siddiqui, expect a great deal of stunning and brave and most oppressed ever.

Cwenthryth · 19/02/2020 07:55

Just because someone is trans*, doesn’t mean the wholesale agree with the purity spiral that has become trans rights activism. I don’t know this person at all, but will be open minded about their starting point.

What’s the male/female balance here in terms of sex? I think 50/50 on the panel (1 TW, 1 man & 2 women) and 75/25 with the witnesses (2 TW, 1 man & 1 woman)? Replacing one of the 3 male witnesses with a transman would have given a better balance. It would have been nice to see detransitioners represented too.

GodwinsRulebook · 19/02/2020 07:57

What a pity they’ve only got one woman witness.

wrinkledimplelover · 19/02/2020 08:01

Wish there was a detransitioner on there. If you're going to have trans people in and a full debate then leaving detransitioners off makes a gaping hole in the discussion.

Mossyrock · 19/02/2020 08:04

What a pity they’ve only got one woman witness.

Is Siddiqui trans? McElvoy is female.

Michael Portillo seems like a very random choice Confused

NeurotrashWarrior · 19/02/2020 08:04

Is this pre recorded already?

Mossyrock · 19/02/2020 08:06

Sorry, I misunderstood. 3 of the 4 witnesses are male. The panel is something different.

DadDadDad · 19/02/2020 08:21

Michael Portillo seems like a very random choice

He's a regular panellist on the MM, as are (I think) the other panellists. So, they're not chosen for their expertise on the particular topic, but their ability to ask good questions.

TorkTorkBam · 19/02/2020 10:19

Yes, shame there's no detransitioner.

Cwenthryth · 19/02/2020 10:25

Yes the format is - dilemma/topic of debate is introduced by Michael Burke; the panel interview 4 witnesses (they say ‘giving evidence’ on the show) and then discussion ensues.

They have done previous shows on topics around gender, sex and trans ideology etc.

Cwenthryth · 19/02/2020 10:29

I think this was the one that Heather Brunskell Evans was a witness on that lead to the debacle in the Woman’s Equality Party
The Moral Maze: Defining Gender

Other recent on policing humour, academic freedom and ‘tolerance of intolerance’ are all interesting and relevant too. It’s a great show in general, always very interesting.

NameChangeOctober · 19/02/2020 10:55

This should be really interesting. They are usually very robust in their questioning.

Mockersisrightasusual · 19/02/2020 11:00

That's a good panel with no Melanieflips or Giles the Mad Vicar.

R0wantrees · 19/02/2020 11:29

Sorry, I misunderstood. 3 of the 4 witnesses are male.

Torr Robinson (chair & founder member of Labour campaign for trans rights) identifies as non-binary?

twitter.com/Torr_ro/status/1172553833354006528/video/1

11/2/2020 Robinson's extended article published by Tribune about the demands that are being made by this group of campaigners & their 'roadmap to liberation' really must be read!

R0wantrees · 19/02/2020 11:37

In February 2018 Torr Robinson was elected Disabilities Officer of London Young Labour on a Momentum slate.

TorkTorkBam · 19/02/2020 12:05

On a totally unrelated note, has anyone noticed how these days twitter is full of white middle class young men who enjoy lecturing into the void about how they, the men, are totes the most oppressed of all people. Also, older women must obey them or be declared mean mummy issues

Cwenthryth · 19/02/2020 12:07

Oh apologies, I couldn’t find any info about who Torr was, their link on London Young Labour site (as disability officer) is to the twitter handle @scumscape which just has a ‘tweets not loading’ screen for me. Anyone know what them’s sex is?

I’m a little fearful for they, to be honest, if they’re female and down the non-binary rabbit hole, taking on all this national attention so young.

RuffleCrow · 19/02/2020 12:09

Yep @torktorkbam that is indeed completely unrelated and in no way driving the trans bandwagon Grin

Apollo440 · 19/02/2020 12:17

I think they had Sharon Davis on Moral Maze before. They were awful. Sharon patiently pulled the arguments apart. I expect a lot of appeals to be kind and tolerant, false statistics and claims that nothing will change.

TorkTorkBam · 19/02/2020 12:21

I have seen Torr on twitter. Torr won't need to go for a smear test or a mammogram.
