'Virtue signalling coward' Labour's war escalates

BovaryX · 16/02/2020 08:21

The Labour war over the trans pledge has escalated, with Rebecca LB et al accused of virtue signalling cowardice. Also, the decision to allow self identified 'women' onto women's only Labour shortlists is going to be legally challenged. Labour have created this absurdity and now the laughable contradictions will be exposed to public scrutiny and ridicule.

Labour’s civil war over transgender rights descended into even deeper bitterness last night after one of Jeremy Corbyn’s senior aides called leadership hopeful Rebecca Long Bailey a ‘virtue-signalling coward’ for threatening to expel feminists from the party – and a crowdfunded legal challenge was mounted against the party

Lachlan is a thoroughly good man & he understands safeguarding thank goodness

ThePurported · 16/02/2020 14:43

What the fuck is JC trying to achieve by introducing his pronouns before he speaks?

Wasn't it International Pronouns Day or something? Hmm

It really encapsulates the problem with Labour leadership. When one of your people suggests that you should announce your pronouns, do you

A) nod, go on stage and shout MY NAME IS JEREMY AND MY PRONOUNS ARE HE HIM!
or
B) say no, fuck off, I am the leader of the opposition and I have better things to do?

As for the trans pledge - a serious leadership candidate would not only refuse to sign, but ask publicly who wrote it, and why are they using Labour to smear LGB and women's rights organisations.

Tanith · 16/02/2020 14:45

“ All of the deputy leadership candidates have signed the pledges”

No, they haven’t. Some have; not all.

Lordfrontpaw · 16/02/2020 14:53

‘My name is Jeremy and I am a man!’

Uhuh - that’s nice dear. Is your mommy with you?

Mockersisrightasusual · 16/02/2020 15:01

But what are his International pronouns?

Monsieur
Signore
(definitely not אדוני)

Freespeecher · 16/02/2020 15:04

His postnoun is MP.

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 16/02/2020 15:11

As for the trans pledge - a serious leadership candidate would not only refuse to sign, but ask publicly who wrote it, and why are they using Labour to smear LGB and women's rights organisations.

Well any right thinking person would do that, but we're in the upside down now. Our political leaders are all about what they can gain from their position rather than how they can best support their electorate.

I am stunned that RLB et al are happily calling WPUK and LGB Alliance hate groups and still expecting to improve Labour's prospects while spreading these view, they are so far out of touch with their electorate that they will achive nothing, but they don't seem to see it.
This is a bit of a derail but I don't understand the problem with separating LGB from T, they are completely at odds and just dilute the need and focus for each group.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 16/02/2020 15:51

Keir Starmer is clearly the only candidate who has seriously taken in board the implications of the GE result and had enough sense to read the pledge and realised it contravenes both existing law and the Labour manifesto.

He's still signed a pledge of breathtaking anti-women-ness though. It only looks tame because the first one was so absolutely mental.

Let's not give him a halo just yet.

Michelleoftheresistance · 16/02/2020 16:07

I don't think Kier gives a toss about existing law or the manifesto, or women, or safeguarding.

I merely think he intends to keep quiet until he has what he wants, and that isn't a virtuous position at all. The women in this situation may be batshit, but at least they have the guts and integrity to be honest with their voters about what they stand for, and what they will do when in power.

Starmer is doing the good old fashioned, Tony Blair style, don't frighten the horses, make nice noises until they've voted you in, and then let them discover it's too late to resist the policies you knew they'd loathe but now can't stop you doing.

It's the same trust destroying superiority that has done Labour so much damage. And again note: it's only the male candidate doing it.

ThrowingGoodAfterBad · 16/02/2020 16:29

And we will Educate. We need an educational programme designed by people with lived experience, with Labour values at the core. This comprehensive guide will include training on anti-Semitism, racism against African-Caribbean people (sometimes called Afrophobia), transphobia, misogyny, homophobia and any other type of bullying and oppression. There will also be mental health and disability awareness training. This strategy will help us build as we campaign and as we win" (continues)

That gave me a cold shiver in the current context. When does education become re-education?

R0wantrees · 16/02/2020 16:32

This is a bit of a derail but I don't understand the problem with separating LGB from T

Press For Change, Mermaids, GIRES, Gendered Intelligence, Scottish Trans Alliance etc are all focussed specifically on lobbying for trans rights.

There are a host of LGBTQ+ lobbygroups

Women's lobbygroups who advocate for women & transwomen WEP, Engender, Fawcett Society

Interesting to see that the few groups specifically advocating for LGB rights (LGB Alliance) & Women's Rights (WPUK, Fairplay for Women, For Women Scotland) are accused of being 'hate groups' & condemned.

MsTSwift · 16/02/2020 16:42

There could be a great in the thick of it episode on this. You can imagine Malcolm tucker going on a massive rant about signing the pledge

Michelleoftheresistance · 16/02/2020 16:43

I don't understand the problem with separating LGB from T, they are completely at odds and just dilute the need and focus for each group.

The T has been carried as a political movement by the funding and political developments of LGB. Which is why you constantly see the references to gay marriage. LGB has been used in many ways as a trojan horse, and has led to LGBT organisations now becoming actively homophobic in stating that same sex attraction is wrong, and homosexual people (mostly the female ones) need to force and train themselves to accept heterosexual sex partners in order to confirm and validate someone (mostly male people)'s personal choice of identity. Otherwise known as conversion therapy.

The LGB Alliance has caused rage and fury from the T, because it blows apart their cover and exposes the homophobia, which is very damaging to their agenda. Hence the rather incoherent ranting as to why they are furious with the alliance, because it boils down to LGB people have no business ever organising without the T and centering the T, and it's hate to say homosexuality is about sex, because if sex is allowed to be framed as existing then it threatens the primacy of gender and unlimited freedoms of self identity. (Mostly benefitting male people.) They say very similar things to women who dare to organise around female people's needs, rights, meet without centering the T etc etc.) As of this week, LGB (and females) meeting together to talk about their own identity and needs is 'hate'. Which is the word for anything involving other people having boundaries.

I thought sadiq Khan was ok but nope! You’d think he’d be aware of the cultural issues for Muslim women but clearly they don’t matter

2016 Independent
'Sadiq Khan looks to scrap ‘ladies and gentlemen’ in favour of gender neutral announcements on London trains and buses
Exclusive: Proposal comes as transgender woman mocked by TfL staff as she ‘didn't sound like a Miss’
(extract)
Transport for London has revealed plans to introduce gender neutral announcements on its network of trains and buses after a transgender woman was mocked by staff.

The proposal comes after Aimee Challenor was told in November that she “didn’t sound like a Miss”, during a call to TfL’s Oyster helpline.

Representing the 19-year-old, Green Party GLA member Siân Berry challenged London Mayor Sadiq Khan to apologise for the incident and review TfL’s trans awareness policies.

In his response, Mr Khan apologised unreservedly for the “inappropriate remark” and pledged to do more to foster equality, including potentially removing “ladies and gentlemen” from announcements across London’s transport network." (continues)

@SoftDay
@thecatfromjapan

Yes totally agree. Old women are the future of all of us - if we are lucky.

As Helen Joyce notes on the podcast - there is a reason why women are radicalised in their thirties and that MUMSnet is such a vanguard on these issues.

Still - there are many young women who see what is going on - whom I truly applaud. I think I may not have noticed when I was younger.

I wonder about the girls at school who are not asked and have not consented to having males in their changing rooms/ toilets/sports/dormitories etc. What will their reaction be to the current times where many men and some women are actively trying to remove their rights?

What a shit show Labour is

Its a cross party shit show!

Hirsutefirs · 16/02/2020 17:35

But what about “the argument?”

Labour’s still winning that, right?

Michelleoftheresistance · 16/02/2020 17:35

I really would like a break down of how many of these policy changing complaints and court cases have actually all been brought by the same people? Because I could make a guess that most are well known names and the repeated complainants are a small enough group to sit down around a dinner table together.

How many women make complaints constantly to TfL and many other places (the BBC comes to mind) on a wide range of issues specifically affecting women, and how many dinner tables would you need to sit them around? No one listens and no one cares. Spot the oppressed group.

ChattyLion · 16/02/2020 18:05

People who refuse to accept and name reality have no chance of actually dealing with it.

throwingGood so true.

I’d love to see him explain to Mia Muslim wife and Muslim daughters and his Muslim mum how they can’t object to a male person in the loos or doing their smear teat because - well we can’t assume anything these days can we, and we certainly can’t ask.
