M&S + John Lewis - your poor Christmas sales will be due to the contempt you've shown your female customers

It's all over the news that M&S and John Lewis have had terrible Christmas sales. I am absolutely sure this is due to the terrible press coverage they received and viral threads of Twitter about how they allow men into the female changing rooms, the contempt they treated their female customers with when we voiced our complaints, and the 1,000s of us who pledged not to shop with them over Christmas. I stuck by my pledge over Christmas and they lost about £1,000 of custom from me with gifts and food. Anyone else kept up their boycott?

Happy to update, if I hear anything, but cousin is understandably circling the wagons at this point.

Her career is with the company and they've been very good to her, to be fair.

She just wants this to all go away (& doesn't want to examine it.

You’ve got to ask how we’ve got from ‘I want to be offered smart, stylish, contemporary, right materials, right price’ to ‘can I have something that hasn’t been jizzed on?’

This is exactly where we are.

Can Marks & Spencers guarantee a spunk free knicker or not???

Needmoresleep · 13/01/2020 20:50

I suspect they wont dare defy Stonewall. No matter what the impact is on sales. Until Stonewall is properly outed as misogynistic organisation that it is. Menz will come first.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 13/01/2020 21:00

I suspect they wont dare defy Stonewall

Sadly I think this is true.

I haven’t shopped in M&S or JL for a couple of months now. Don’t care if there’s no direct correlation between my actions and their results (though I used to do all my grocery shopping at Waitrose which added up to a fair bit over the years. I did receive JL vouchers for Christmas. They will get used for something, but my daughter needs a proper bra fitting and I am sure as hell not taking her to JL or even buying their lingerie on line. I will go to the little local shop instead, where she’ll probably get a more expert fitting, even if it’s more expensive. Would not touch M&S underwear with an actual barge pole these days.

TimeLady · 13/01/2020 21:02

I wonder if the staff and management are aware of those knicker reviews left by males on their website?

Might it be worth printing a hard copy and taking them into the stores so they have evidence of a specific (and easily solvable) problem to discuss at their meetings?

Ninkanink · 13/01/2020 21:08

Of course they’re aware. They’re also acutely aware that many women do not want to share their intimate and private spaces with any man that ‘feels more comfortable there’ (including in the bra fitting service and related areas where elderly, minor and vulnerable females are being helped with bras and underwear). They don’t care.

RedToothBrush · 13/01/2020 21:11

First pair I looked at. Six reviews. 5 from men, 1 from a woman who bought for her granddaughter.

17 reviews. 9 from men

As it goes its not hard to work out which pants are more popular with male customers compared to female customers. It's almost as if some are being designed for the male market rather than female, given how pronounced the difference in the male to female review ratio is between certain styles.

DuMondeB · 13/01/2020 21:13

Yep. I will never consider ‘tanga’ styles after what I’ve learned via the M&S website.

RedToothBrush · 13/01/2020 21:16

It does make you wonder if M & S are actively designing for a male market and a female market.

Oliphantitus · 13/01/2020 21:25

Redtoothbrush !! Those links...gag. That's m and s off my knickers list. Some of the men call them ' panties'....puke

WhatinthenameofHalloween · 13/01/2020 21:31

After clicking the review links above, it seems you can report the reviews as inappropriate. Has anyone done this? Should we start doing it en masse? How could it be worded?

Sexnotgender · 13/01/2020 21:49

I reported some of them. I can’t use the word I used here or I’d be banned probably 😏

Michelleoftheresistance · 13/01/2020 21:49

Those reviews.

M&S, proudly putting blokes in silky panties! (and HQ before you eat me, the people posting these reviews are very clear they identify as men, and men who like wearing women's underwear.)

Meanwhile female people cringe and get as far away as possible, because even thinking about buying pants some bloke is getting off on wearing - or worse wanking in and putting back on the rack, and leaving wet spots on the changing room floor as they happily discuss on twitter - is just too revolting to contemplate.

Go the whole hog M&S. Add a porno DVD floor and some whips, chains, dildoes. I'm sure it'll make some customers feel more comfortable.

Very few of them will be female, but whatever, you've picked your market.

Ihatesundays · 13/01/2020 21:51

It’s not a good business model as well. I’m sure women need to buy more knickers to actually wear than men need to wank into.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 13/01/2020 21:55

Those reviews! I don't know what to say. Apart from I am never buying pants in M+S again.

Sexnotgender · 13/01/2020 21:55

Interesting a lot of the male reviews get a large number of thumbs up, the women’s reviews get virtually none.

RedToothBrush · 13/01/2020 21:56

The funny bit is that men appear to be buying 'women's knickers' that only other men are buying...

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 13/01/2020 21:56

isn't it weird that more men than women seem to be leaving reviews? it's almost like telling people about wearing women's knicks is part of the fetish.....

Sexnotgender · 13/01/2020 21:57

Nooooo, you can’t use the F word😱

Sexnotgender · 13/01/2020 21:58

One of the reviews above even says it’s not a perversion!!

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 13/01/2020 21:58

men wearing womens pants is a fetish. it just bloody is!

Sexnotgender · 13/01/2020 21:59

I know that. Mentioning it will get you banned and the thread pulled though. We’re not allowed to speak the truth.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 13/01/2020 22:00

my main objection is not people discretely indulging their fetish by the way, it's them trying to involve me by leaving fucking reviews in the hope people will read them

do whatever roasts your chestnuts but don't involve me please

Sexnotgender · 13/01/2020 22:01

Totally agree.
