Liverpool Women's hospital no longer has female toilets

I just read this on twitter - the Women's hospital in Liverpool has removed all female toilets and changed them to gender neutral toilets. All the men's toilets have remained the same.

This has been confirmed by hospital staff.

Sorry Will cross post - I'm catching up.

Would anyone be able to gather a crowd together for a protest in the new year?

It's outrageous. We can't let it stand.

MetaWhat · 22/12/2019 21:23

I'm disgusted by this. Every time I've been in LWH I have been vulnerable and in need of safe single sex facilities. I don't know who has influenced them to do this but it stinks. Will be emailing pals tomorrow.

So in an a women’s hospital they are catering for the men

Awesome work Liverpool women’s hospital.

You know where women stand

Like last place

Doing the job Liverpool women’s hospital in case them uppity women might think they put women first

Fuck that you just women let’s put you last

Siameasy · 22/12/2019 23:51

I just don’t get this. There aren’t any male patients. I get that there are male staff and visitors. But it’s a women’s hospital. Women don’t have jurisdiction in their own hospital then?!

theflushedzebra · 22/12/2019 23:54

Women don't seem to have jurisdiction anywhere.

32flavours · 23/12/2019 00:39

I’m due to give birth here in a few weeks and can’t believe what I’m reading. I have also been a victim of sexual assault and would never use a gender neutral toilet. Why would they do this?

Raindrops17 · 23/12/2019 00:53

Stop the world, I want to get off!

This is just absurd. It won't be long before the name of the hospital is questioned given men can have periods and babies too.

I just can't understand someone making a decision to introduce gender neutral toilets by changing all the women's and leaving all the men's. What thought process has gone into that?

Anyway, below is the response from the LWH associate director for safeguarding. Hmm

See those logos down the bottom of the ss. You guessed it, one of them is a Stonewall Diversity Champion logo.

We all want to stop the world

Yesterday My 81 year old mother asked me despairingly “when is this going to go away?”

The LWH's reasoning is ridiculous. There is already a concept in existence of disabled toilets which sometimes have a sign of a baby in them indicating their dual purpose for family use. The hospital can just remodel more toilets to fit this purpose - not do away with women's ones completely.

And they still didn't explain why they chose to keep the men's loos intact.

Silencedwitness · 23/12/2019 07:05

This is hugely progressive for MEN! Lucky them able to use whichever loo they fancy but is completely regressive for women. Men seem to be systematically dismantling women’s rights.

Sunsetsunrise1527 · 23/12/2019 07:27

By the way this is not just the Women's. It has been changed across the trust - So the Royal and Broadgreen both have the same policy as it is in the trust website.

SidJS · 23/12/2019 09:06

Ripe for a toilet door sticker campaign from a local Mumsnetter??

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 23/12/2019 09:11

What thought process has gone into that?

None

Fieldofgreycorn · 23/12/2019 09:23

They have 8000 births per year. Most women are accompanied by men. This is the lobby toilets. The wards will have individual toilets.

FusionChefGeoff · 23/12/2019 09:32

Ok @Fieldofgreycorn then make the Men's toilets gender neutral and women's as women's.

Vulnerable group - safe.

Men - access to loos.

Done

koshkat · 23/12/2019 09:37

This is so gobsmackingly awful that I am still in shock. And the silly woman parrtoting how wonderful it is FFS. Hmm

MSM needs to pick this up pronto.

koshkat · 23/12/2019 09:38

parroting

ActualHornist · 23/12/2019 09:42

@Sunsetsunrise1527 really? I was only at Broadgreen about a month ago didn’t see this. Granted I only went to Dermatology!
