*Can we be reassured that the Gender Recognition Act will be reformed and fixed to ensure the safety, protection and validation of trans and non-binary people in the UK?

Can you promise us that this will be put into action, rather than simply saying you will, when you become prime minister?*

Yes, I can definitely promise that, because this is long overdue. We will reform the Gender Recognition Act to include self-identification for trans people – and we will make sure the voices of non-binary people are finally heard in our review of the GRA consultation.
Trans people will no longer have to endure invasive, dehumanising and lengthy processes in order to have their gender recognised. And we’ll also amend the Equality Act 2010.

We need to remove the outdated language in there, and we’re going to ensure there are proper protections for trans people against discrimination.

I don't really understand why MNHQ deletes references to fetish.

I thought Kink shaming was a really bad, bad thing? Surely we should all be very openly talking about certain people's fetishes, and everyone can read that very positively, like a forum Pride parade.

ThePurported · 12/12/2019 12:15

What is the MNHQ-approved word for a fetishist? Surely we are allowed to discuss inappropriate sexual behaviours and men who involve other people in their paraphilia.

Vinosaurus · 12/12/2019 12:18

I live in a Tory stronghold so my vote for anyone else would be a waste anyway - and I can't bring myself to vote conservative, so spoiling my vote it probably the most product use of it.

ClosdesMouches · 12/12/2019 12:57

I'm away from the UK currently so had to do a postal vote a week ago.

I've voted Labour for the whole of my voting life, ie for close to 40 years.
Last week, because of the party's position on this issue, I had to make a final decision about what was written in their manifesto and what was actually meant by it, before knowing much more detail.
I decided that I simply could not vote Labour because of this. Nor could I vote Conservative, Lib-Dem or Green. So I voted for a party that's likely to get around 200 votes in my constituency.

I'm really not surprised to see Corbyn making this statement
The Labour party has demonstrated its absolute disdain for women and I doubt that I will ever vote for them again.

ZIGGY7 · 12/12/2019 16:04

Yes, Lang. Precisely that. Gutsy Labour women at grass roots, Labour councillors and officers of the party. The women MPs should follow their example and grow a spine.

HepzibahGreen · 12/12/2019 16:22

Yes Caroline Flint is quite gutsy actually. She seems quite normal too. On the whole though, Labour women don't seem to have recovered from the "Blair's Babes" simpering in red jackets and doing what they are told vibe. The Tories actually do better women. They might be evil but at least they have some personality and backbone!

midcenturylegs · 12/12/2019 16:40

I read this earlier before voting. I have to admit to feeling thoroughly miserable whilst ticking Labour (as I've done for the last 30 years). But I am in a very very safe Tory seat and the population here is anything but mobile. If that makes sense. What I think I will do though is join the winning party and start to try to make a difference from the inside in as a PP is doing.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 12/12/2019 17:29

join the winning party and start to try to make a difference from the inside

That's an interesting idea!

YourOpinionIsNoted · 12/12/2019 18:21

join the winning party and start to try to make a difference from the inside

Interesting indeed. I think it will be a slim Tory majority, I'll have to unpick how I feel about joining the Conservative party, but it may well be easier to shine some sunlight in the right places that way. Look at how successful momentum have been in transforming the labour party into a fucking joke after all.

SingingLily · 12/12/2019 18:51

Conservative Party membership fell dramatically under David Cameron (Lord Feldman was only interested in big corporate donors, not the little people who, erm, actually do the legwork of stuffing envelopes and going door-to-door) and even more under Theresa May (disillusionment).

I got the distinct impression from my chats that membership locally is sparse. Yet, it is the constituency parties that are the machinery that supports the national party and the agenda.

So why not? They'd be congratulating themselves on suddenly attracting more women members. Why can't women members be as organised and focussed as Momentum?

Womentum.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 12/12/2019 18:53

Womentum

I like it. Grin

Needmoresleep · 12/12/2019 19:03

Yes. I like the idea of GC women of all persuasions being encouraged to be politically active. Not as some sort of Blair’s babes, but to push things that matter to women.

BadgertheBodger · 12/12/2019 20:07

Womentum excellent work Grin

BeardedVulture · 12/12/2019 20:20

Because Momentum seems to be made up almost entirely of beardy woke blokes in their 20s and 30s with no kids and time on their hands.

Needmoresleep · 12/12/2019 22:28

Just listening to Dawn Butler talking about exit polls. “Down to Brexit”

Just you believe it love....

What about TWAW?

TiredofthisBS · 12/12/2019 22:32

I will hold fire till we get the true result but if the exit polls are correct then Labour were repeatedly warned this would happen if they treated party members (particularly women members) with contempt. They didn't give a toss.

SirVixofVixHall · 12/12/2019 22:47

Yes, they didn’t give a toss. They should have walked this, yet the polls look terrible. So angry with them.

HepzibahGreen · 13/12/2019 00:10

Oh please. One single mum with a full time job could get more done in her lunch hour than one of those dick wads could in week. Grin Women are used to being busy.
