*Can we be reassured that the Gender Recognition Act will be reformed and fixed to ensure the safety, protection and validation of trans and non-binary people in the UK?

Can you promise us that this will be put into action, rather than simply saying you will, when you become prime minister?*

Yes, I can definitely promise that, because this is long overdue. We will reform the Gender Recognition Act to include self-identification for trans people – and we will make sure the voices of non-binary people are finally heard in our review of the GRA consultation.
Trans people will no longer have to endure invasive, dehumanising and lengthy processes in order to have their gender recognised. And we’ll also amend the Equality Act 2010.

We need to remove the outdated language in there, and we’re going to ensure there are proper protections for trans people against discrimination.

I just think he doesn’t know what he’s talking about on this issue.

I think on balance of all the issues I will still vote for them (Lab/Tory marginal) and if the candidate is elected then write to her straight away on this issue explaining my concerns and not let up on it. She has a science background, the Momentum lot locally don’t like her, so might be promising.
Tbh I’ll start lobbying straight away whichever candidate gets in.

BovaryX · 11/12/2019 19:32

The more Gender ideology is scrutinised the more the public can see it for insanity that it is. It just doesn't hold up

It’s infuriating, isn’t it? But all of the parties seem to a greater or lesser extent in thrall to this idiocy

teawamutu · 11/12/2019 19:32

Timely - makes sure I won't waver and vote Labour at the last minute. Thanks Jeremy for the BELATED honesty.

clitherow · 11/12/2019 19:32

I think Labour are going to win to be honest.

OMG I hope you're wrong. I'm in a safe Tory seat but have a Yorkshire devolution candidate to vote for.

One of the first things I would be pushing for is to exile the Leeds City Council Labour Group to Lancashire.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 11/12/2019 19:33

I would never flame anyone for any voting choice - although UKIP would get a raised eyebrow.

I actually think the raging tribalism and othering that goes on in our politics is more than half of what's wrong with it.

kulaexchange · 11/12/2019 19:35

Yep, I'm out. It's either Tory or a spoilt ballot for me.

Totally agree Scrimshaw.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 11/12/2019 19:37

I predict, rubbing my crystal balls ....

Tory win.
Brexit.
Uproar, cannibalism, curly bananas at dawn.
Scottish independence.

Wonder what odds I'll get on that.

I’m voting Tory. I know the candidate and messaged him last week to find out his views. He’s firmly GC and a day later messaged me again to say he’d found the Conservative Women’s Manifesto (I didn’t even mention it, and given that it’s been completely deboosted, not sure how he came across it!) and had signed it. I stand Johnson but this time I’m voting for the specific candidate.

rodgmum · 11/12/2019 19:39

*can’t stand Johnson

GCAcademic · 11/12/2019 19:39

I’d started wavering today, having previously decided to spoil my ballot. No fucking way am I voting Labour now having heard they plan to amend the Equality Act. It’s the absolute duplicity with which they’ve gone about it too, trying to pull the wool over our eyes with their shifty manifesto wording. I’m now wavering between spoiling and voting Conservative.

Daughterofmabel · 11/12/2019 19:49

Tbh people can have certificates to recognise their gender all they like - as long as the law recognises the distinction between gender and sex and sex remains a separate protected characteristic
I doubt it will the way things are going. Spoiling my paper.

PronounssheRa · 11/12/2019 19:51

I was really struggling with the idea that for the first time i wasn't going to vote Labour, so much so I was starting to waver.

But fuck you Labour you don't deserve my vote, i dont think any of you are willing or able to give this any critical thought. Corbyn has just made the decision so much easier.

BovaryX · 11/12/2019 19:56

Someone said the other day that Labour were planning to make transphobia hate speech. But how will that be defined? Will asserting a belief in biological sex as immutable be hate speech? Would that be in Eqalities Act?

ThePurported · 11/12/2019 19:57

Oh look Datun, your F word has been erased.

smileylottie87 · 11/12/2019 19:59

What a weasel declaring this at the 11th hour! Should those who are unaware of this issue even manage to hear his stance on this given the website readership, there is fuck all time for them to get to grips with it.

I'm pretty much in my infancy in reading around this topic and I've been lurking on this board for a couple of months.

merrymouse · 11/12/2019 20:00

ensure the safety, protection and validation of trans and non-binary people in the UK?

This is the problem in a nutshell - the assumption that there is a right not just to be recognised as a person, but to have your personal concept of your own identity 'validated'.

OvaHere · 11/12/2019 20:03

I've been wavering today. I'm in a marginal Lab/Tory seat which Labour took in 2017 by a few hundred votes. We've been drowning in leafleting here. Grin

I've had a back up plan of the Yorkshire Party candidate but Labour would ordinarily be my choice. I voted for them last time despite Corbyn and Momentum but not sure I can do it this time.

I'm finding it excruciating because I'm not thrilled about the seat turning blue again but I'm beyond fucked off with Labour and don't trust them not to screw women over.

The YP is as much use as a spoiled ballot to be honest but I don't feel willing to vote for any of the main 4 parties. My DH and eldest (first time voter) DS feel pretty much the same. Although they don't appear to have used the headspace agonising over it that I have!

HermioneWeasley · 11/12/2019 20:09

I hate to say I told you so, but......i told you so

MrsSnippyPants · 11/12/2019 20:18

Wow rodgmum if you feel able to share who your candidate is via pm I would really appreciate it.

The CUPWomensPledge has been totally silenced by a Twitter so I would love to know that candidates have seen it!

Michelleoftheresistance · 11/12/2019 20:24

the assumption that there is a right not just to be recognised as a person, but to have your personal concept of your own identity 'validated'.

But not if you're female. If you're female, you don't get to be recognised or have a personal concept or an identity or privacy or dignity or safety. In sweet Jeremy's vision, women will do as they're told or else in the service of males. And all spaces will belong to males. All of them.

Fuck that. That isn't progress, and I shall be delighted to assist 51% of the population to get really, really, seriously pissed off. Bad law should not be obeyed.

Angryresister · 11/12/2019 20:26

After a lot of wavering and discussion with my proxy , I decided to vote labour despite my doubts....but now I have asked her to spoil paper as I just can’t stomach this absolute betrayal. And yes I knew what was in the manifesto was contradictory, and JC is not supporting Remain despite declaring himself neutral. Let’s hope enough of us do it .but I would never vote Tory or Lib DEm now

rodgmum · 11/12/2019 20:31

@MrsSnippyPants I’ve PM’d you. Couldn’t see a way to add a photo, so here’s the DM from him (scribbled out his photo to keep me a bit anonymous as to my location)
