*Can we be reassured that the Gender Recognition Act will be reformed and fixed to ensure the safety, protection and validation of trans and non-binary people in the UK?

Can you promise us that this will be put into action, rather than simply saying you will, when you become prime minister?*

Yes, I can definitely promise that, because this is long overdue. We will reform the Gender Recognition Act to include self-identification for trans people – and we will make sure the voices of non-binary people are finally heard in our review of the GRA consultation.
Trans people will no longer have to endure invasive, dehumanising and lengthy processes in order to have their gender recognised. And we’ll also amend the Equality Act 2010.

We need to remove the outdated language in there, and we’re going to ensure there are proper protections for trans people against discrimination.

'Outdated language' being 'sex' I assume.

That is exactly what I'm going to assume, since the slippery fuckers don't even have the decency to tell women how they would amend the Equality Act.

LangCleg · 11/12/2019 19:03

And there we have it.

There's an internal battle raging within the Labour Party just as there is within the SNP.

And the leader has signalled which side he's on.

TiredofthisBS · 11/12/2019 19:04

He wants the woke vote @PencilsInSpace he's not actually thought about it. I suspect that Ms Butler has been bending his ear. Unfortunately for him, this issue is getting light shone on it and, quell surprise, people are not happy. The more Gender ideology is scrutinised the more the public can see it for insanity that it is. It just doesn't hold up.

LangCleg · 11/12/2019 19:04

If I was in a Tory/LibDem marginal, I'd probably vote to keep the LibDems out. And I'm a dyed in the wool socialist, FFS. That's how bad things actually are.

Datun · 11/12/2019 19:05

We need to remove the outdated language in there, and we’re going to ensure there are proper protections for trans people against discrimination.

It's not discriminatory to keep a late transitioning male from occupying the cubicle next to my 13-year-old niece when both of them trying on the same 'angel' teen bra. Ffs.

Bring it on, mate. Everyone is waking up now.

Same as others I had just about decided to reluctantly vote labour. Nope not any more. I literally cannot believe I am having to consider voting shudder Tory!! But the GRA and protecting women’s rights is my greatest concern. No labour and Lib Dem can fuck off! I have written to my local MP on the GRA and my concerns in the past (she was a Conservative) but she responded basically saying she supported the proposed changes to self ID. Thankfully she’s not standing again.

ThePurported · 11/12/2019 19:07

Validation?! Am not British but is there any government on earth that proposes to validate the feelings of its citizens?

It's embarrassing, frankly.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 11/12/2019 19:09

Well that's the final push for me. I'm going to vote Tory.

TinselAngel · 11/12/2019 19:10

I can't get my bastard postal vote back now.

TinselAngel · 11/12/2019 19:14

Mind you, given I live in a safe Tory seat it makes no odds.

AuntSpiker · 11/12/2019 19:14

No surprise really, he'd do anything for the young woke vote. How many other men in their 70s do you know who would go along with this bollocks?

Am seriously considering spoiling my paper

SanFranBear · 11/12/2019 19:14

Oh no... had just about resigned myself to voting Labour as didn't want to spoil the ballot Sad

WTF!

SingingLily · 11/12/2019 19:18

I've gone one better, OhHolyJesus. Earlier today I joined the Conservative Party. I'd made up my mind to do so and fight for women's rights from the inside. I know my male local councillor is GC and very well informed because I tackled him about it on the doorstep. He said Self ID is not in the manifesto because they hadn't realised the implications and are now horrified by them so they want time to think again.

About an hour later, my Tory MP rang me and asked me to be a teller for a couple of hours tomorrow. I said yes. It's all hands on deck.

Flame me for now being an official Conservative Party member.

*I DON'T CARE.
*
I care about stopping Self ID.

You do whatever you have to. I'll do the same.

BovaryX · 11/12/2019 19:18

I bet the outdated language is ‘transsexual.’ It is used throughout the parliamentary notes TimeLady linked to, there is no mention of transgender. Language, its control and reduction is at the heart of so much of this.

GCAcademic · 11/12/2019 19:18

Am not British but is there any government on earth that proposes to validate the feelings of its citizens?

Oh, worry about not being British. I’m sure that under a Labour government you’ll be able to get a British passport if you feel a bit British. You’ll be able to prove that you’ve lived in your acquired nationality by having a cup of tea when you sign the forms down at the passport office.

Hername · 11/12/2019 19:20

I decided this morning I was definitely going to vote Labour. But last time I did that, and then later Corbyn said everyone who voted Labour agreed with leaving the EU as that was their stance going into the last election.

This time will I be told that I voted to reduce the rights of women?

For someone who goes on about how his politics is all about collaborating and listening he sure as hell doesn’t do much of it.

BovaryX · 11/12/2019 19:21

^Flame me for now being an official Conservative Party member.*I DON'T CARE.
I care about stopping Self ID.
You do whatever you have to. I'll do the same^

SingingLily, no flame from me, I am a Conservative. I just hope if they win, they will stop self ID. It’s ridiculous no party is openly challenging this lobby’s agenda

Themyscira · 11/12/2019 19:23

FUCKSAKE

I live in a safe Labour seat. I'm fucking spoiling my fucking ballot. Arsehole.

BovaryX · 11/12/2019 19:23

They are rewriting the GRA or the Equalities Act?

ThePurported · 11/12/2019 19:24

Well yes, various bods including the EHRC have been banging on about the word 'transsexual' for ages and it's no secret that they want it gone from legislation, but Corbyn can't even say it. He's just blithely talking about amending the Equality Act like it's no biggie.
Ffs.

Ereshkigal · 11/12/2019 19:27

He wants the woke vote @PencilsInSpace he's not actually thought about it. I suspect that Ms Butler has been bending his ear.

She's an idiot. I couldn't vote for someone so out of touch with what people actually think. So fuck off Jezza. From someone who voted you in as leader.

Uncompromisingwoman · 11/12/2019 19:27

Well - that's a decision made. I'm in a seat that Labour is desperate to win - they lost last time by a small margin. I was wobbly about not voting Labour for the first time ever. But now my decision is made. Thanks idiot Corbyn.

Michelleoftheresistance · 11/12/2019 19:28

Fuck off Jeremy.

I was planning on spoiling my ballot, but you've convinced me. Voting solely to keep Labour and the nutjobs from power is the only responsible thing I can do.

Floisme · 11/12/2019 19:28

I'm not a conservative but no flaming from me. I feel more connection with the FWR tory regulars than I do with Momentum and I think everyone just has to make the best choice they can.

BovaryX · 11/12/2019 19:29

I think Labour are going to win to be honest. In a coalition with Jo Swansong. What a useless shower of politicos they all are in this election
