*Can we be reassured that the Gender Recognition Act will be reformed and fixed to ensure the safety, protection and validation of trans and non-binary people in the UK?

Can you promise us that this will be put into action, rather than simply saying you will, when you become prime minister?*

Yes, I can definitely promise that, because this is long overdue. We will reform the Gender Recognition Act to include self-identification for trans people – and we will make sure the voices of non-binary people are finally heard in our review of the GRA consultation.
Trans people will no longer have to endure invasive, dehumanising and lengthy processes in order to have their gender recognised. And we’ll also amend the Equality Act 2010.

We need to remove the outdated language in there, and we’re going to ensure there are proper protections for trans people against discrimination.

But not if you're female. If you're female, you don't get to be recognised or have a personal concept or an identity or privacy or dignity or safety.

I don't want to have my identity pigeon holed and recorded by the government though. I find the idea horrifying and regressive. I just want to be recognised as human.

The problem is that without statistical analysis and recognition of sex, women's ability to participate equally in society is severely restricted regardless of how they identify.

In an alternative universe all the politicians are reading Caroline Criado Perez's book 'Invisible Women' and expressing horror that car safety belts aren't really designed for pregnant women. Unfortunately we are stuck in the universe where leaders of the two largest parties that claim to be progressive are more concerned about 'validation'.

After hearing from my Labour PPC and finding that he is GC, I'd decided to vote for him (I live in one of the safest Conservative seats in the country, so Labour hasn't a chance of winning). Instead I've just emailed him and told him that JC has just lost him my vote.

Looks like it's spoiling my ballot for me Confused

Sexnotgender · 11/12/2019 21:03

My local labour MP won with a majority of

”... and we will make sure the voices of non-binary people are finally heard...”

Who are these non-binary people? Who’s been gagging them? And aren’t they (the non-binaries) a bit terfy considering the binary has been replaced with the rainbow jelly spectrum?

I don’t envy your voting choices Gin

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 11/12/2019 21:22

Shit. I had just made up my mind to vote labour in spite of JfC.

I'll chain myself to the parliament railings if he gets to keep his word.

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 11/12/2019 21:38

And John Martin McDonnell was one of 2 labour MPs who voted for.

SingingLily · 11/12/2019 21:41

to stop Helen Belcher from getting a toe-hold on power

That's my fear.

I'll do whatever it takes to stop that from becoming OUR reality.

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 11/12/2019 21:43

Oops - missed out a bit of my post.

I was looking at the voting record for the GRA in 2005 on allowing Marriages to Remain Valid If They Become a Same Sex Marriage.

Lib dem voted for so no change there. Labour (including Diane Abbot voted against . But John McD voted for ).

BadgertheBodger · 11/12/2019 21:43

Oh for FUCKING FUCKS SAKE

I’m disabled with a student DH and we’re fucking broke and everything to be honest is completely awful as I’ve just lost my PIP.

I was going to spoil, then the PIP decision came through and if it wasn’t for MIL we’d be looking at a foodbank. I had decided to vote Labour, basically holding my very cold nose as we’ve turned the heating down. I WANT to vote Labour. Desperately. But this is such an enormous betrayal I can’t quite believe it is happening. If anyone in the Labour Party can genuinely look at me on a wheelchair day with my toddler in my lap, queuing for a foodbank, and think hmmm...well, she’s only a woman so definitely nowhere near as oppressed as a late transitioning male, THEN THEY CAN FOTTFSOFAFOSM. I’m done. Spoilt it is because I will never vote for a Conservative government after what they have put me through.

I’m literally crying with rage and disappointment.

BeUpStanding · 11/12/2019 21:58

Oh for fucking fucks sake. Another one here who had just about managed to convince herself to reluctantly vote Labour, but absolutely no way now. I cannot believe it seems my only option is to spoil my ballot. Fuck fuck fucking fuck Angry

Sexnotgender · 11/12/2019 22:02

I’m so sorry @BadgertheBodger that’s utterly shit. You’re so right, the fucking most oppressed/vulnerable stuff is utter, utter bollocks.

Smallblanket · 11/12/2019 22:09

Badger - you express yourself very well. They don't get it, do they? None of them.

stillathing · 11/12/2019 22:09

Who are these non-binary people?

Well most of us for starters. But I don't think we count.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 11/12/2019 22:17

Yep, I too was going to say fuck it and vote Labour to keep the Tories out, but straight from the horse's mouth? I can't can I. Fuck fuckity fuck fuck. I'm glad I saw this now.

Dhalandchips · 11/12/2019 22:18

Oh god I'm so baffled! I'm in a fairly safe tory constuency that may just be swayed by the lib dems. I'm a lifelong Labour supporter. I just can't bringtself to vote for another tory government. Oh FFS!

JanesKettle · 11/12/2019 22:32

There is no place for women or Jews in Labor.

FlossieTeacakesFurCoat18 · 11/12/2019 22:32

I've never felt the same about corbyn since I saw the picture of him smiling alongside the teenage boy that labour made their women's officer

BadgertheBodger · 11/12/2019 22:38

No I rather think they do get it, or a lot of them would if they gave it more than 2 minutes thought. They just do not give a tiny single granular fuck.

Men are shouting about wanting something.

Useful idiots, some men, some women, and a lot of sexual predators and pedophiles also men have jumped on the bandwagon because it gives them a handy opportunity to virtue signal their empty, meaningless thoughts to the rest of us poor sods who either have to a) listen or b) be personally affected by their poor decision making and complete lack of critical thinking.

The reinforcing pressure from regulatory and institutional capture is strong, plus we’ve never really been a country who put women first, although it had been marginally better for a short period. It’s easy to listen to men, when you’ve always done so. Much easier to listen to men, powerful men, who tell you it’s the “Right Side of History” and invoke Gay Rights to shame you into complying because by know everyone knows if you don’t support Gay Rights you’re a disaster.

And so, for politicians, and career fucking arseholes like PCC Pronouns, and actual medical doctors and scientists like Professor fucking Alice Clownfish, with one eye on climbing the greasy pole, it becomes obvious that you should back the winning horse.

So what do you do? You back the men. As fucking always.

While children are mutilated, women’s rights are destroyed and free speech goes back to the good ole days of McCarthyism. You look the other way if you don’t have the stomach, or you argue if you do and just don’t give a shit. You tell women they’re bigots, and horrible and whatevsphobic. And you probably DO get to the top of your greasy pole, but you better not for one second look down and see the writhing mass of bodies you stepped on to get there.

I think it’s time for the FWR party, where only women who support other actual women can stand. I just can’t fucking let this go.

Manderleyagain · 11/12/2019 22:45

He's contradicting his own manifesto. This is pretty much what Dawn butler said as soon as the manifesto came out.

littlbrowndog · 11/12/2019 22:46

Yes badger. Wankers the lot of them

And shame on them all that anyone let’s this happen to you

KettlePolly · 11/12/2019 22:49

Spoilt paper it is then. What a bloody shame. Honestly I've got the labour poster on my door and everything. I'd hoped they'd at least keep an open position on it.

nopocketsgrr · 11/12/2019 23:00

Badger sorry for the hell you are going through with PIP. Can relate. It is utterly cruel. Flowers

Voting Tory is unthinkable for me too, like you said I want to vote Labour (for the most part), but as Hername says, I am horrified at the thought of doing that then being told that I have voted to destroy women's rights. Its mass gaslighting and abuse of women.

BadgertheBodger · 11/12/2019 23:11

Thanks nopockets and all who have sent sympathy. I just find it utterly enraging that the party who should protect the vulnerable have sold us out on behalf of men.
