Spoilt votes - post them here so that the parties/papers can see them

I know there is a split of opinion about spoiling ballots vs voting for the least bad option.

If you do decide to spoil your ballot it feel free to post a photo of it here (be careful not to include any information that identifies you and in particular not to include the ballot's unique identification number) in case any of our loitering journalists wish to pick up the story or in the hope of giving the parties/candidates some pause for thought.

In case it is of interest (and you want a place to post your views for/against spoiling ballots), there have been a number of threads about spoiling ballots, a few links below:

And I find it apalling that you are trying to shame women into voting for parties that will decimate women's rights.

OccasionalKite · 11/12/2019 22:59

Justhadathought

That's a good clarification; I may write up another sticky label with that. Thank you!

HandsOffMyRights

Yes, green and purple felt-tips or sharpies!

Hazardexhausted · 11/12/2019 22:59

Gentle reminder tactical voting is available. Unprecedented medication shortages are not fun, it's happened to my family and i dont want it to happen to any one else. 200000 people will have died avoidable deaths by the end of 2020 thanks to Tory policy.

IfWishesWereFishes · 11/12/2019 23:00

Jesus settle your indignation at someone joining the conversation despite not having time to read each of the 104 comments on the thread already @ShesDressedInBlackAgain

I would suggest that your sarky response is more rude than my post which was delivered with an apology actually in it, but what the fuck would I know.

IfWishesWereFishes · 11/12/2019 23:02

If that's what I was doing you'd have a point right enough.

Wasn't aware that having a different opinion to you was shameful.

FlyingOink · 11/12/2019 23:17

this issue is very important, but so are many many others, and I find it pretty selfish
Yawn

200000 people will have died avoidable deaths by the end of 2020 thanks to Tory policy
Yet Labour and the Lib Dems are more interested in appealing to genderists than listening to women so I guess they're not that invested in removing the Conservatives.
Who has more of a chance to stop deaths caused by austerity? Me as a single voter, or Jeremy Corbyn, the Leader of HM Opposition?
I'm not falling for the emotional blackmail spiel, if they want to throw votes away that's on them.
I won't be endorsing parties that are happy to abolish the legal status of women.

OccasionalKite · 11/12/2019 23:19

Yes, I think it is easier to write out a few sticky labels tonight, with relevant and succinct points regarding women's hard-won sex-based rights, and the current threat to our much-needed single-sex spaces.

If in doubt, or if what you feel can't be contained on a single sticky label: there's always
"Woman = Adult Human Female"
and
"Women Don't Have Penises

for example.

And if you have purple and green felt-tips or Sharpies or colouring pencils - yeah, use them too!

THIS

Ereshkigal · 11/12/2019 23:30

don't 'expect' anyone to vote any party to do anything. Don't make shit up.

Yes you do. "If you let the Tories back in you're a terrible selfish person"

How about you stop making shit up?

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 11/12/2019 23:31

Good idea about sticky notes. I'll be writing 'stop destroying the right of my 9 year old daughter to single sex spaces' and 'woman = adult human female' and maybe 'my vote goes to any party who will protect the right of girls to single sex spaces for their privacy, dignity and safety'. I may have to write in tiny letters!

Also thinking of putting XX in all boxes.

Hazard I hope you are writing to both Labour and Lib Dem leadership to express your unhappiness that they are throwing away the votes of women who would otherwise have voted for them if they weren't dismantling safeguarding around children. Has no-one told them that attacking the rights of children is not going to go down well with their parents?

Given their explicit policy is to help to 'validate' the 1% at the expense of safety, privacy and dignity of the 51% they obviously don't give too much of a shit about possible deaths from Tory policies. Because it's a batshit anti-science and anti-common sense policy and third spaces would solve all problems without any issues. Everyone would be happy - except the paedophiles of course.

IfWishesWereFishes · 12/12/2019 06:57

Ok, you write your wee notes and everyone else will understand that no party is perfect but you try to get as close as you can with your vote, then work from there.

Yawn right back atcha.

PJsatMidday · 12/12/2019 07:37

Funny how loads of people, whose names I have never seen on this board, have popped in to shout at us to stop being silly little women and vote to stop the Tories. Hello Momentum.

AudacityOfHope · 12/12/2019 07:41

Been here for 12 years and am very GC but carry on with your paranoia.

VMisaMarshmallow · 12/12/2019 08:14

Wishes- again because you seem to be missing this, I do not give a fuck about an nhs that exists only for men and not women. I do not give a flying fuck about well funded education that only others sons can access but my daughters are not safe there, and I don’t care about any party addressing homelessness when every shelter will leave women at risk from men. If labour & Lib Dem throw away our votes then that’s on them, not us, so stop trying to manipulate us, guilt us and appeal to how women are socialised to bend over backwards to swallow our voice and thinking of everyone else before ourselves. That might work elsewhere but not here so just buzz off.

PJsatMidday · 12/12/2019 08:15

Is that a non-denial denial?

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 12/12/2019 08:19

It's the 3rd rule of misogyny here these days:

Women speaking for themselves are exclusionary and selfish. Or in this case women voting for themselves, in their best interests and the best interests of their children, is exclusionary and selfish.

Well I think Momentum / the Labour party / the Lib Dems are exclusionary and selfish. Exclusionary of XX women and girls, half the population. That's a pretty big deal. It's on them if they don't get the votes. Their fault.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 12/12/2019 08:21

And I sincerely hope that all these people coming on here to chide us about our choices are also chiding all the candidates who have willingly and knowingly (after the Jo Swinson debacle it cannot be unknowingly) throwing women and girl children under the bus.

I've written to mine expressing my concern about the erasure of rights for women and girls that is achieved by self ID. Answer came there none except from my Tory MP. Who agrees with me.

GCAcademic · 12/12/2019 08:27

Well said, Marshmallow. I am already avoiding treatment for an issue I have because I know that the NHS thinks that the gender identity of its staff or other patients trumps my rights not to have a male intimately examine me or sleep in the bed next to me. If I had a school-age child, especially a daughter, I wouldn’t be using the state education system. Corbyn is happy for me to pay increasing amounts of tax for those things, of course, while removing my ability to access them. If he wants women’s votes, he needs to recognise that we exist.

Gonzales27 · 12/12/2019 08:35

Feeling so depressed about this political situation.

I've never before even considered not voting or spoiling a paper but I am now so unbelievably conflicted.

The rights of 50% of the population (the more vulnerable 50%)

vs

brexit and all the other horrible issues effecting this country that effect another hugely vulnerable cross section of the uk.

I have no idea what I'm going to do!

PJsatMidday · 12/12/2019 08:37

Also, the barely veiled attack on lesbians with their "wee notes". These women are fighting for their survival under threat of self ID. Do you think Jewish people who won't touch Corbyn with a bargepole are being selfish too? Are you telling them to think of the NHS?

PJsatMidday · 12/12/2019 08:40

I'm not white. My children and I potentially have a lot to lose under Brexit, but I'm not going to throw 51% of the population under the bus to hand the government to that racist, misogynist piece of scum who speaks out of both sides of his mouth. At least the Tories are honest about their hatred - and it's a cold day in hell when I vote for them. That's how bad Labour and the Libdems have become.

TiredofthisBS · 12/12/2019 09:11

Well it's done. I spoilt my vote. It felt wrong to do so but in the end if no party can stand up for Women's rights then no party will get my vote.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 12/12/2019 09:18

Jesus settle your indignation at someone joining the conversation despite not having time to read each of the 104 comments on the thread already@ShesDressedInBlackAgain

No. I won't.

I would suggest that your sarky response is more rude than my post which was delivered with an apology actually in it,

If you don't know why many women on FWR will consider it to be rude to ask women to do your work for you in replying to points that have already been made several times because you don't have time to read through an argument before posting your tuppence worth then some reading around feminism might help? Apologising for being rude in advance just shows that you were aware of it so it's not a great defence.

I just spoiled my ballot. It gave me no pleasure to have no one to vote for.

IfwishesWereFishes · 12/12/2019 09:31

Excuse me? Buzz off because I have an opinion different to yours? I will not.

And to whoever accused me of attacking lesbians because I used the words 'wee notes' do me a fucking favour. If you think I was attacking lesbians by that report my post, get it deleted.
