I know there is a split of opinion about spoiling ballots vs voting for the least bad option.

If you do decide to spoil your ballot it feel free to post a photo of it here (be careful not to include any information that identifies you and in particular not to include the ballot's unique identification number) in case any of our loitering journalists wish to pick up the story or in the hope of giving the parties/candidates some pause for thought.

In case it is of interest (and you want a place to post your views for/against spoiling ballots), there have been a number of threads about spoiling ballots, a few links below:

@bd67th I understand that , and has someone who has been both raped and sexually abused by a male and a female, I am female! So I get why people would be worried but the people who hurt me were not transgender!

Justhadathought · 12/12/2019 20:08

I didn’t realise the feminist forum was just for women who frequent it regularly. Maybe best you make a private group if you don’t want strangers coming across it with their own opinions

It isn't! I'm relatively new to it, myself. It is the only board I look at on mumsnet - because it is one of the few places you can come for a real discussion of the issues surrounding transgender ideology.

But you must have noticed that this particular thread was one for people who had decided to spoil their ballots. These discussions have been going on for weeks on this board. There are multiple threads dedicated to the election and the party manifestos etc. So most people are familiar with other user names.

I'm not sure how you navigated your way here Via Mumsnet in general? It's just that these boards are frequently trolled by people who just come to get a rise. Not saying you were doing that...but you did tell people they were "cowardly".

People feel very strongly about the issues that have led them to spoil. Otherwise they would not be doing it.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 12/12/2019 20:09

Actually I said it was cowardly to hide behind a anonymous piece for paper.

That makes no sense. How is spoiling a vote any more cowardly than voting?Weird argument Confused

I have even been swore at by some members

Have you called South Yorkshire police? They will totally help you.

I didn’t realise the feminist forum was just for women who frequent it regularly. Maybe best you make a private group if you don’t want strangers coming across it with their own opinions.

We do. Some of them are interesting. But we reserve the right to argue with you when you come to tell us how we should be behaving.

Anyway - you want south Yorkshire police. Or possibly one of the Sussex forces. Make sure you highlight the fact that we're doing feminism wrong.

PJsatMidday · 12/12/2019 20:09

"Awful" and "mean" now, to add to "disappointing and disgusting". You complain about meaness, and yet you call us cowardly. While you are hectoring us to vote for your chosen party; on a support thread for a group of highly intelligent, hugely informed women who have reached the end of their tether with the political class and taken the considered decision to become vote spoilers, not a debate thread about whether or not to spoil your vote. If you want people to vote for your party, start and thread and persuade people why their policies are good enough to vote for. You have simply wasted several hours name calling and painting yourself as a victim when people won't do as you you tell them.

Justhadathought · 12/12/2019 20:11

This isn’t feminism it’s bullying

We're all different; & yes, some are definitely more 'spiky' than others. That's got nothing to do with women's rights issues, though - it is just personality and character differences.

Whyjustwhy23 · 12/12/2019 20:11

No photo as I daren’t, but for the first time in my life (I’ve always voted Tory except once for a green in the euros) I have spoilt my ballot.

Feel like a charlatan but even my Independents that could have been an option are total fucking idiots.

One wants to force BREXIT by MAKING Ireland leave the EU ARGH.

90schic · 12/12/2019 20:15

What is feminist about spoiling your vote? Genuinely confused Confused didn’t women fight and die for the vote. Makes me sad thinking you would throw it away. Surely there must be something you like about ONE party. You might as well spit in the suffragettes faces

Hopeforthemany · 12/12/2019 20:16

@MsMcWibble I’m sorry I was under the impression this was a discussion board. My mistake.

I haven’t told anyone how to vote I have just disagreed with spoiling papers. I haven’t disagreed with why people have done it.

Maybe ask mumsnet to move this if you only want people who frequent the board to comment. That’s not me being patronising I’m trying to be helpful

HandsOffMyRights · 12/12/2019 20:17

If you're confused then I suggest you read the full thread.

TiredofthisBS · 12/12/2019 20:18

Not another one HmmJust read all of the thread 90's.

PJsatMidday · 12/12/2019 20:18

Cross posted with everyone.

Yeah, I don't understand the cowardly for filling in a ballot thing either.

Anyway, ballot now spoiled. Thank you for the PP who said they put the Venus symbol in every box, inspired and copied, plus "Woman = Adult Human Female written across the names. I then attached my picture of the suffragettes (the one at the top of this thread), which had some other wording in the suffrage colours, no to self -ID etc. Very open voting booths with hardly any room between those and the officials' desk, so no chance to take a picture (I'll be complaining about the proximity).

Feeling angry and sad, but I have a clear conscience.

Justhadathought · 12/12/2019 20:20

You shouldn’t be taking photos inside polling booths and if you can be bothered to make your way to a polling station surely you can be bothered to research each party and make a decision like a grown up

@hopeforthemany . This was your first post. Provocative, no?

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 12/12/2019 20:20

No you didn't disagree. You said it was 'cowardly'.

Totally uninflamatory.

TiredofthisBS · 12/12/2019 20:20

Just going to leave this here for any new thread ploppers.

Spoilt votes - post them here so that the parties/papers can see them
Hopeforthemany · 12/12/2019 20:21

@PJsatMidday please (other than my username) find a reference when I have referred to “my party” or tried to get anyone to vote for them............

The OP started this with spoiling papers and putting photos up. All some people have done is disagree. I haven’t called individuals names I have just pointed out some people’s comments have been awful, for example telling people to fuck off. But I assume that’s ok as that poster agreed with you.

HandsOffMyRights · 12/12/2019 20:21

I think 90s is just disappointed we didn't vote for Labour.
Smacks of Momentum. Again.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 12/12/2019 20:21

@90schic
I felt unable to vote Con because they aren't able to form a strong parliament at the moment
I felt unable to vote Labour as they seem to have no grasp on basic economics currently
I felt unable to vote LibDem due to basic understanding of biology
I felt unable to vote Green as they seem to want to make everyone happy but without any substance behind claims

So spoiling felt like my only option.

BeyondVotesForFlube · 12/12/2019 20:22

I have complaints to make too; proximity being one, accessibility another, staffing the third. If all that had gone well I might (admittedly a very slim chance!) have not been pissed off at the whole thing and decided to spoil! 😡

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 12/12/2019 20:22

god all these scoldy people.

it's total non thinking virtue signalling

voting = good

therefore i must scold anyone who has decided not to vote, it will make me a superior person, without having to do any actual thinking. win!

TiredofthisBS · 12/12/2019 20:23

It's classic DARVO tbh.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 12/12/2019 20:25

although 'spitting in the suffragette's faces' did give me a smile, which was nice

Hopeforthemany · 12/12/2019 20:28

Funny how the OP was just about going along and spoiling your paper. Nothing about the reasons why or what it would mean. Just like it’s was something fun to do.

If this whole reason why had been more widely spread before today maybe more people would have understood and done the same.

TiredofthisBS · 12/12/2019 20:31

Perhaps there are other threads discussing spoiling votes that we've discussed things on previously....

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 12/12/2019 20:31

it was a continuation of a long conversation which has been going on on this board for at least 18 months Hopeforthemany

people here aren't obliged to slow down so you can catch up

you can of course join the conversation midway through in a thoroughly uninformed manner, but you will come across, well, as you have done, and people will pick you up on that

Justhadathought · 12/12/2019 20:31

What is feminist about spoiling your vote? Genuinely confused confused didn’t women fight and die for the vote. Makes me sad thinking you would throw it away. Surely there must be something you like about ONE party. You might as well spit in the suffragettes faces

A lot of us have already put in a lot of leg work into explaining the issues.....There are multiple threads on the women's rights board. Read them, and then you'll understand what the issues are.
