Spoilt votes - post them here so that the parties/papers can see them

I know there is a split of opinion about spoiling ballots vs voting for the least bad option.

If you do decide to spoil your ballot it feel free to post a photo of it here (be careful not to include any information that identifies you and in particular not to include the ballot's unique identification number) in case any of our loitering journalists wish to pick up the story or in the hope of giving the parties/candidates some pause for thought.

In case it is of interest (and you want a place to post your views for/against spoiling ballots), there have been a number of threads about spoiling ballots, a few links below:

Just given what for to a couple of LibDems canvassers. They didn't make any points back, didn't even seem surprised.

raisinseverywhere · 12/12/2019 14:42

I wasn’t going to vote today, but I think I will go and spoil my ballot. I’m in a strong Tory area, so my vote would make no difference anyway. But if I spoil my ballot then at least it will be counted as a vote, and decrease the % of votes that the main parties would get.

VMisaMarshmallow · 12/12/2019 14:49

Tory are not dubious about self ID. Erase the legal definition of women and you erase all women’s rights, all our voting power, all our sex based protections. The tories won’t have anyone whinging at them for their austerity policies disproportionately harming women or how they don’t have enough women mps anymore because women will now always include men, and they get to follow women into toilets and change rooms. It’s a win win for them.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 12/12/2019 14:50

I could take a picture, polling station very open and no curtains on the booths like in the last place I lived.

I wrote them an essay Blush. I live in a safe Tory seat, and got a sort-of reassuring email from my Tory candidate so I held my nose and wrote "I can't vote Labour, LibDem or Green because none of you believe woman= adult human female. So despite being anti-austerity and anti-Brexit, I will have to vote Tory. Ps. Imagine how many votes you'd win if you stood up for women?"

I was just going to vote, but there was an election helper woman with blue fucking hair on my way in which spurred me on. I figured from the advice on these threads they look to see if there is any clear intention to vote for a candidate on a spoilt ballot, so if they read it, there is clear intent, but they'll have to at least fucking well read it first. Maybe someone will have a brain cell engaged and do some googling later.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 12/12/2019 14:53

Couldn't, ffs. Not could.

Suziki · 12/12/2019 14:56

Just thought it'd be of interest... morningstaronline.co.uk/article/f/sex-based-rights-election-issue

Spoilt my ballot paper.
Humans - a sexually dimorphic species
Woman = Adult Human Female
No to self ID
Protect single SEX spaces
Preserve Women's Rights
Defend freedom of speech

PJsatMidday · 12/12/2019 15:07

Thanks for the link. But none of that will make a jot of difference if they define the female sex as including anyone male born identifying as female (with or without a GRC). And this is the stealth tactic that will be employed by the Stonewall influenced, biology denying, woke fuckwits who have driven this policy this far already. No need to change the Equality Act on single sex spaces and provisions for females, if the female sex can include anyone who says they are female, which is the point of self ID.

HandsOffMyRights · 12/12/2019 15:10

Thanks Suziki
Women Uniting.

AdultHumanWithOvaries · 12/12/2019 15:16

I spoilt mine too.

I'm so angry with all these tiny minded politicians that daren't stand up for what's right, or even for what they believe in in case they might offend someone. I don't know what any of them stand for anymore. Get some backbone fgs.

Career politicians should be banned.

HandsOffMyRights · 12/12/2019 15:27

My polling station is fairly open.
Last time one of the pink haired volunteers was quite close to me and watching.

If I get out my stickers can they come over and stop me or are they forbidden from interfering?

TiredofthisBS · 12/12/2019 15:29

I don't believe that they can interfere with your vote

PJsatMidday · 12/12/2019 15:39

If anyone tries to interfere with your vote, call the police, and tell them vocally that is what you are doing. They have no right whatsoever to stop you putting what you want on your ballot. It's your legal right to do so.

That also goes for those people who try to see your polling card data etc. They have no right to any of this data so tell them to sod off. They also need to be standing well away from the voting booths. My DH has had to have words with these people a few times in the past.

PJsatMidday · 12/12/2019 15:42

If any election official is standing too close to you while you vote, ask them to stand back and tell them that they are intimidating you, if this is how you are feeling.

VMisaMarshmallow · 12/12/2019 15:44

Voting is supposed to be confidential, if these people are close enough to see what you are writing/who you are voting for then it’s not confidential. They shouldn’t be allowed to be there if that’s the case and I’d strongly suggest you complain immediately because no doubt there will be other people who feel to vulnerable to speak up against that and knowing that people they come across at the local shop/church/park etc will have the power to see their vote can influence them to vote differently or not vote in future.

bellinisurge · 12/12/2019 15:50

Tell them to stand back AND report them.

MagnificentTrousers · 12/12/2019 15:58

Well I've done it, spoiled my ballot.

NONE
NO TO SELF ID
WOMAN = ADULT HUMAN FEMALE
PROTECT SINGLE SEX SPACES

I was the only person there at the time (I timed it for primary school pick up), which meant they could all quite clearly hear me scribbling away in the little wooden booth. I got quite the stare when I posted the ballot paper, as it was clear I hadn't just put a cross in one box so I'm hoping they're all dying to see what I wrote.

YellaHumberElla · 12/12/2019 16:03

Spoiled it. Waited to the last moment to decide hoping my labour candidate would provide a last word of hope. Nope.

In the end I couldn’t in all good conscience put a cross in the box.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 12/12/2019 16:05

My conscience will not allow me to vote for any of these parties

And all names crossed out.

jhuizinga · 12/12/2019 16:09

I've just spoiled my vote for the first time ever. I'm both angry and upset that I've had to do so.

Took stickers saying:

Woman: adult human female
Sex not gender
No to self-ID
Repeal the GRA

Ultra-marginal seat so I hope there are three recounts as in 2017 and my reasons are noticed. In any case I feel I've done the only thing I can in this hideous election for women.

JellySlice · 12/12/2019 16:12

I hated doing this.

Spoilt votes - post them here so that the parties/papers can see them
Hopeforthemany · 12/12/2019 16:20

You shouldn’t be taking photos inside polling booths and if you can be bothered to make your way to a polling station surely you can be bothered to research each party and make a decision like a grown up.

If you don’t want to vote for any don’t vote and don’t moan about the government that gets in.

I feel sorry for the people that spend all night counting votes and have to waste their time binning stupid vote slips like these. Nobody sees them other than you and them.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 12/12/2019 16:26

Is anyone else starting to feel a bit excited? I'm thinking of all the lurkers who may also spoil theirs. It just feels Luke there are going to be too many similarly spoilt papers to not notice.

TiredofthisBS · 12/12/2019 16:28

Another one coming on here to tell us that we're bad for not voting. Perhaps IF you had done your research and read the threads relating to why we have spoilt the vote then you'd understand instead of coming on here to lecture us. I have done my research on the parties and decided none would get my vote. I won't be made to feel guilty about my decision for my vote.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 12/12/2019 16:29

Actually crap choice of word (excited) ... I really mean encouraged.

I thought long and hard before spoiling mine, it felt crap but like many it's too big a deal to ignore.

But knowing there are so many of us thinking like this ...
