I know there's lot of mention of this on other threads but I just want to say Anna, if you're here (I feel like you must be), bravo! Your questions were great and you spoke so smoothly. No hesitation or umms and arrs.

My heart was beating out of my chest just asking some gentle questions at some transgender training at work recently so I guess I'm not difficult to impress but still. Good job Flowers

Just adding to the applause. Anna reminded me of the woman who nailed Margaret Thatcher to the floor over The Belgrano (although Thatcher went on to win 2 more elections so let's not get carried away).

Swinsons interviews yesterday featured in leading article in The Times today - thread here.
Well done, Anna!Thanks

Well done Anna you are a star.

Did I hear Jo advise predatory males to get a bucket and mop to enter female spaces?

Does Jo really think we think she could be challenged in a female space for not passing, hilarious!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 09:25

When she said "I've never been challenged" I wanted someone to say "and why do you think that is, Jo?"

Pipstelle · 10/12/2019 09:33

Christ on a bike that was disappointing from Jo. She's well out of her depth and it really shows. She's getting a letter from me and my vote because we have to vote tactically. And I'll take clueless Jo over calculating Bojo. I feel quite strongly about female only spaces but the left have consistently cut off their nose to spite their face when a candidate doesn't come out strongly enough on a single issue. We cannot divide the vote. But we can realllly try to educate Jo!

Galvantula · 10/12/2019 09:33

Yes Kitten, she's making it look like she actually is that dense.

Anna was amazing! 😃

NotBadConsidering · 10/12/2019 09:41

Maybe there should be an “I’m Anna!” thread instead of an “I’m Spartacus!” thread, see how far we can get it before the mods step in Wink.

LangCleg · 10/12/2019 09:41

Well done, Anna. You rock.

OldCrone · 10/12/2019 09:45

I know loads of Annas in Warwickshire. Could be any one of us.

Well done, whichever one of you it was.

SarahTancredi · 10/12/2019 09:46

Yes Anna you were brilliant!!Gin

PurpleHoodie · 10/12/2019 09:47

Look in the dictionary under "Gravitas" and "Truth": there you will find "Anna".

The blathering about masculine looking women - was she saying they're more likely to be challenged now? If so, maybe Swinson would like to think about exactly why that might be. (Clue - in the past we could be reasonably sure that anyone in the ladies was a woman or at least an 'old school transsexual'. Nowadays that's not the case, precisely because we've had 'self id' foisted on us without our consent. Hence raised levels of alertness/suspicion.)

Botherfreedays · 10/12/2019 09:54

Just listened, well done Anna!

Xiaoxiong · 10/12/2019 09:54

I thought Anna was brilliant.

I was actually thinking while listening that another follow up question would be "what is a transwoman". People can try and claim that a woman is whoever feels/knows they are one. But surely the definition of a transwoman must be something along the lines of "someone whose gender identity does not match their biological sex", thereby acknowledging the existence of biological sex in the first place.

OldCrone · 10/12/2019 09:55

Did I hear Jo advise predatory males to get a bucket and mop to enter female spaces?

This what she said:

I mean at the moment, you know, if a man, you know, wants to, you know, go into a women's space or a changing room or whatever, I mean we've all seen the 'Male operatives on duty', you know, go in with a bucket and be cleaning the - the, you know, cleaning the loos, right? So you know, if there's people who want to - to - to do - to act in that way, they should absolutely be dealt with.

From the transcript PencilsInSpace posted last night on this thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3763986-jo-swinson-taking-calls-on-radio-5-at-9am?pg=7&messages=25

Is this another variation of 'men will always attack women, so there's no point in trying to stop them'?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 09:55

If "masculine" looking women are being challenged more now maybe it's because people like Jo keep telling the public that lesbians are as dangerous to other women as men are. Maybe Jo should have a think about that.

SpeakingOutLoud · 10/12/2019 09:56

Well done Anna! Brew

I think the blather about masculine looking women was because she was trying to avoid saying the word 'men' . At least that's what I thought when I heard it. I'll go and check now with Pencil's excellent transcript.

PurpleHoodie · 10/12/2019 10:00

Aye Errol.

"'Masculine' or 'Butch' women don't pose a threat to you, so men won't" (Paraprashing the general gumph we've all heard over the years)

Jo Swinson for example...

PurpleHoodie · 10/12/2019 10:04

Paraphrasing, even.

Ledkr · 10/12/2019 10:09

Just falling over themselves to be PC and accepting of everything regardless of who it affects.
Drives me barmy.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/12/2019 10:10

Tbh, trying to analyse what exactly she meant in the blathering about masculine women and men with mops is probably futile as I doubt she knew herself.

PurpleHoodie · 10/12/2019 10:19

She meant men who are employed to go and clean the toilets are allowed in so let's let them ALL in.

But we know the men who are employed to clean the toilets are easily traceable, able to be sacked and will have signed Codes of Conduct to be employed at that location. Not ideal. But slightly acceptable.

She's a buffoon. A dangerous buffoon. She could have had my vote. And judging by the others threads, many others also.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 10/12/2019 10:24

What got me about our anna was she was so clear and unflappable. I would find the pressure of that too much. She sounded so professional. So which ever one of you she is, I want to carry you on my shoulders (hopefully with lots of help), down to a real (or virtual) pub. Where I'd toast you all night.

It's funny, I'd kind of given up on heroes. Now I have loads. So many brave women.

isabellerossignol · 10/12/2019 10:31

Anna was wonderful. Her questions were so clear, so precise and she did it all so firmly but politely.

I heard it on the radio and was so impressed, then I watched it on Twitter and saw it complete with Jo's facial expressions and it was a whole new level of delight.

Anna, I salute you.

ScapaFlo · 10/12/2019 10:33

And also when a man is cleaning the Ladies there is usually a sign warning users that there may be a male operative in attendance. Why might that be, Jo?
