Tying herself in knots. Great interviewer.

OP posts:
BlackeyedSusan · 09/12/2019 07:17

I know.... go Justin...

Christmastree43 · 09/12/2019 07:17

Listening (and rushing to get ready for work!)

OverByYer · 09/12/2019 07:18

Justin is giving her another rinsing. Deservedly so.
‘Trans women are the most vulnerable in Society’
Figures for this please Jo

theflushedzebra · 09/12/2019 07:18

He's really taking her to task.

TheCuriousMonkey · 09/12/2019 07:20

Justin Webb was on fire.

Tableclothing · 09/12/2019 07:21

Who the fuck am I meant to vote for now?

Christmastree43 · 09/12/2019 07:22

She completely missed the point on safe spaces/ women's refuges.. Said 'it's not like there' s no same sex (female) abuse'

BlackeyedSusan · 09/12/2019 07:22

she is doing better...I thought she got her point across very well and was not deflected. Justin raised a few good points, but she majored on poor demonised in media group...

she is unsure about whether sex is binary though.

Christmastree43 · 09/12/2019 07:24

Used the ignorance defence, 'I am not a scientist but'

StarGOLD · 09/12/2019 07:24

Do you believe there is biological sex...absolutely top questions asked with the same flimsy answers from Jo Swinson. 7:09 onwards on bbc playback.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 09/12/2019 07:26

Needs to be pointed out that this is NOTHING like gay rights. What rights do trans people not have? Gay people didn't seek surgery, or claim to be something they were't.

OverByYer · 09/12/2019 07:27

Reassuring to know the MSM are taking this on and challenging proponents

noodlenosefraggle · 09/12/2019 07:27

Yes great interview. Bet he won't be getting rape threats after that!

Iggypoppie · 09/12/2019 07:27

Jo Swinson doesn't believe in biological sex. Wtf.

1000umbrellas · 09/12/2019 07:28

Anyone else think Justin saying "if you were in the studio right now I could do you great harm with my male body" was a bit sinister!? Good point but better ways of making it I think.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 09/12/2019 07:28

And pull her up on the use of cis, the meaning of gender..

Iggypoppie · 09/12/2019 07:28

Then admits some people will try and game the system.

theflushedzebra · 09/12/2019 07:29

I've heard Jo Swinson make these batshit arguments 3 times now to BBC interviewers.

She sounds more batshit each time. Does she not realise this?

Lesbians! Biology is complicated! Suicide! Trans is the most vulnerable! There is no hierarchy of equality! (unless I want to use a hierarchy and say trans are the most oppressed!!)

Jo Swinson - WHY are you doubling down this point so hard, even when it makes yous sound ridiculous and very dismissive of women?

nettie434 · 09/12/2019 07:31

The abusive woman in the same refuge as her partner argument again. It really does not work, Jo, when you are being asked about same sex exemptions in women’s refuges. Oh and transgender is not the same as intersex either.

donquixotedelamancha · 09/12/2019 07:32

Wowser.

If you have the BBc sounds app you can scroll back and listen, it's at about 7.10.

Do you believe there is biological sex...absolutely top questions asked

I think he listened to the women's hour interview (I think it was that) and noticed she hedged on that one. He gave this topic as much time as Brexit.

He gave her a lot of room in which she was completely clear: she doesn't believe in biological sex and there should be no women only spaces at all.

TheOliphantintheRoom · 09/12/2019 07:34

Has Jeremy Corbyn been interrogated on this issue? And Boris?

GCAcademic · 09/12/2019 07:35

She doesn't believe in biological sex? Hasn't she had a baby ffs?

BovaryX · 09/12/2019 07:36

she doesn't believe in biological sex and there should be no women only spaces at all

The thought of a politico this divorced from external reality anywhere near the corridors of power is truly grim. Jo Swinson parrots the talking points of an ideology which can’t sustain scrutiny or criticism. I really hope the Lib Dems pay the price for their vacuous policies and politicos

redcarbluecar · 09/12/2019 07:37

She really bumbled through it. Surely it would have been possible for her to prepare answers to the most obvious questions, which were the ones asked. Did it take her by surprise that the topic was raised?

GCAcademic · 09/12/2019 07:38

Has Jeremy Corbyn been interrogated on this issue? And Boris?

The Tories have not signalled that they will abolish women's sex-based rights (although they have been, in their reluctance to address this issue, complicit in doing so, of course). Labour has tried to pull the wool over women voters' eyes with their meaningless promise to strengthen the single-sex exemptions in the Equality Act, and it looks like the media, as usual, is lagging too far behind to have picked this up.

Swinson is being grilled on this as she has made it a flagship policy of the Lib Dem manifesto.
