^AiW: Thank you very much, good morning. Jo, my question for you - It's really great that your party promotes women's rights so please can you tell me what a woman is?
JS: [pause] Um, well ... er, I know I'm a woman, and, er ... and I think we do - we - we know - er, what - what we are^

Pencils, thank you for transcribing this. It is quite incredible that this stuttering, bumbling buffoon expects people to vote for her. Anna from Warwickshire did a great job of helping Swinson reveal her subterranean excavation of the rabbit hole. Swinson’s swansong can’t come soon enough.

There's a great leading article in the Times this morning on how Jo Swinson has done everyone a favour by bringing the gender issue to the forefront. The Times now feels brave enough to essentially state the gender critical viewpoint in a leading article.

Here's a link for those with subs, perhaps someone else can do a share token.

Got this reply from my local Lib Dem candidate.

I want to be unequivocal & clear when I say that trans rights are human rights, and trans women are women, trans men are men.

So they clearly thought it went well and haven't changed their tone or addressed any of my concerns.

GCAcademic · 10/12/2019 07:39

These people speak in slogans, like the programmed vessels of a totalitarian regime. It wouldn’t probably cause them physical pain if they ever tried to deploy their brains.

GCAcademic · 10/12/2019 07:40

would cause them pain, obvs.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 10/12/2019 07:44

I wish I had known about this yesterday. Did she say anything about fracking?

Absolutely. It’s the same talking points. The mythical butch woman who was challenged while washing her hands, the obsessive reference to a ‘certificate,’ the glib assertion that subjective feelings trump biological reality and the obdurate refusal to acknowledge that conflicting rights and women’s safety are inherent problems with this ludicrous paradigm.

ItsChristmaaaaaaaaas · 10/12/2019 07:53

I find a follow up question to a statement like @testing987654321 had is ‘how?’ ‘What makes you say that?’ ‘Can you please explain?’ ‘How long have you believed this?’ ...

midcenturylegs · 10/12/2019 07:56

I hope they read the article in the Times this morning and blush!

The people who the Chinese government pays to try to sway discussions online come across more convincingly, tbh. You could replace most TRA statements with a bot and nobody would notice the difference.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 08:02

For the truly indoctrinated I'm not sure that there's anything the media can print that would convince them that they don't have the public on their side. That's what's so disconcerting about them - the opinions of dissenters simply don't matter to them at all.

GrimDamnFanjo · 10/12/2019 08:05

What a disappointment Swinson has turned out to be.
However, the policy will have been formed by members, and once it's there it would be impossible for a leader not to support it no matter how batshit.
I don't know when and where this policy was created but I think that is where the answer to this lies.

ItsChristmaaaaaaaaas · 10/12/2019 08:06

I would like to know too.

testing987654321 · 10/12/2019 08:06

They hoped I would rethink my position.

I told them it was nonsense as you need to transition from something. At least they know why they are losing votes.

Despite the party policies I decided I would vote for any candidate who would stand up for women's rights.

It's going to be a spoiled ballot at the moment.

ItsChristmaaaaaaaaas · 10/12/2019 08:09

Did you ask why this has become such a big issue for them? If they were pushing for disability, pensioners, children etc then yes, brilliant! But for a minority of a minority which has dubious backers and cheerleaders...

merrymouse · 10/12/2019 08:11

For the truly indoctrinated I'm not sure that there's anything the media can print that would convince them that they don't have the public on their side.

The strange things is that Jo Swinson was talking about being asked to wear low cut tops to win more votes yesterday, and some part of her must know that the person making this suggestion couldn't give a rats arse about her own sense of her own identity.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 08:11

I'd have thought that, say, fixing Universal Credit might be a touch more important.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 08:12

I dunno how any woman copes with the cognitive dissonance of TWAW just like me but nobody ever asks them to do the things sexists ask me to do. No wonder the ones who pop up here to scold us are so short tempered, a constant headache will do that to you.

Kit19 · 10/12/2019 08:22

@ItsChristmaaaaaaaaas yes I mean why THIS issue? Millions of people are struggling with universal credit, housing is out of reach for many young people, social care is on its knees and this issue affecting a few hundred thousand ppl is the hill they choose to die on??? It’s utterly batshit!!

ItsChristmaaaaaaaaas · 10/12/2019 08:33

Usually partied will match into a relatively ‘easy fix’ or big promise item. Or something that wither effects most people or a perceived sympathetic minority. this has none of the above.

Who is pulling the strings? Who is making this their lives work? I mean, I have several issues that I am passionate about but can’t say that one would take over my life to the extent that I would dedicate myself to it.

ItsChristmaaaaaaaaas · 10/12/2019 08:34

Usually parties will latch... (autofill is a bit crazy on my phone!)

merrymouse · 10/12/2019 09:04

Usually partied will match into a relatively ‘easy fix’ or big promise item. Or something that wither effects most people or a perceived sympathetic minority.

I think that if you exist in a particular bubble this is an easy fix for a sympathetic majority.

It's difficult to believe that Jo Swinson believes all that rubbish about being able to identify in and out of the gender pay gap, but then it's also difficult to believe that Boris Johnson tried to avoid asking a question yesterday by taking a reporter's phone.

Remember when eating a bacon sandwich badly was a major gaff?

ItsChristmaaaaaaaaas · 10/12/2019 09:05

This is self-foot shooting on a pretty major scale (more like a whole leg).

RedToothBrush · 10/12/2019 09:05

However, the policy will have been formed by members, and once it's there it would be impossible for a leader not to support it no matter how batshit.

Unless leadership chuck out gender critical members for being bigoted. Or rig votes by not telling people what they are really voting for. Hello radical association.
