Why Hannah Mouncey wasn't picked for the world championships

Clymene · 08/12/2019 22:16

Mouncey says: "I can confirm that yes, I was left out of the team for the World Championships because there was a group of players within the team, supported by the team manager, who did not want me showering or using the change rooms before or after the game."

Good on those women who stood up against being forced to share showers and changing rooms with a male bodied person.

Obviously Hannah is feeling a bit aggrieved but is putting on a brave face: www.starobserver.com.au/opinion/people-will-do-whats-easy-over-whats-right-hannah-mouncey-speaks-out/190555

I wonder if Mouncey has acted like a creep in the locker room, for this to be the case AFTER playing an entire season. Usually when people spent time with a gay or lesbian player in the locker room, they came to realize it was just fine after all. Yet somehow this doesn't seem to be the case for this player specifically.

Just find it interesting.

Lordamighty · 09/12/2019 09:51

Maybe Australia realise that they can’t object to NZ’s Laurel Hubbard winning weightlifting medals, because they are biologically male, whilst allowing Hannah Mouncey to compete internationally.

Lordamighty · 09/12/2019 09:53

I don’t think HM needs to have behaved badly for the rest of the team to not want to share showers with them. They are biologically male, that is reason enough.

2BthatUnnoticed · 09/12/2019 10:02

It’s nothing like being gay or lesbian at all - the two situations are totally different

Lesbians are female and belong in female spaces as much as any straight woman

Kantastic · 09/12/2019 10:32

There does seem to be a general trend with this issue that more exposure to trans people creates less "tolerance" which is of course the exact opposite of what happened with the gay rights movement.

Almost like the comparison isn't valid.

SarahConnorFem · 09/12/2019 10:39

"I cannot lie—it would have been terrific to have been able to provide the trans community with a visible symbol of the fact that progress is being made towards greater acceptance, but if society is not at that stage then so be it. That time will come, and it is only because we shine a light on these situations and use our own negative experiences to give others strength, that we will eventually make the progress we as a community wish would happen today."

Passive aggressive much?!

And built like a brick shit house.

Gingerkittykat · 09/12/2019 14:25

It is pseudo therapeutic language connected to the idea of self-actualisation, yet entirely twisting what Carl Rogers meant by it.

It's probably not the right thread for this but I have wondered a few times about trans ideology from a person centred philosophy. Carl Rogers did make it very clear however that we are also part of society and any actions we take also have to be taken in the context of responsibility for others and their feelings.

DuMondeB · 09/12/2019 14:43

Mouncey confirms, in Mouncey’s own words, that gaining unrestricted access to women’s changing rooms and showers is more important to than playing sport for Mouncey’s country:

Yes, I would be playing in a World Championship right now if I had given in and accepted the quite frankly ludicrous [meaning: reasonable expectations of sex segregation for privacy and dignity] requests made by the team manager both on his own behalf and those players he represented.

Snorkers · 09/12/2019 16:36

“PEOPLE WILL DO WHAT’S EASY OVER WHAT’S RIGHT”
What, like join a women's sports team for easy success despite having significant physical and social advantages over everyone else in the team, putting everyone else playing at risk of physical injury and denying a female sportswoman a place on said team to boot?
Loving the total lack on insight or cares for anyone apart from oneself.

Fromage · 09/12/2019 16:52

I don't know who she is really, but it's clear she's an idiot. And unliked.

ItsChristmaaaaaaaaas · 09/12/2019 16:59

But aren’t women told to be kind be nice and step aside?

okeydokeywokeyblokey · 09/12/2019 17:41

What really struck me was the pic of HM hanging onto or dragging down another player who already has weak knees going by the braces. Do women ever do this? Put all their weight on an opponent? Imagine playing ot practicing against that...

BarbaraStrozzi · 09/12/2019 17:52

Okey, yes I think women would, within the rules of the sport concerned. Women's rugby, AFL, women are going to go in as hard as they can. It's just that'll they should be doing so against opponents who match them in terms of physical strength, i.e other women rather than individuals with the physiological advantages bestowed by male puberty and years of elevated testosterone, heavier, denser skeletons, massively larger VOMax, etc etc.

NotTerfNorCis · 09/12/2019 18:14

I later had it confirmed by someone else within Handball Australia who had done some digging that: “From everything I’ve been told, you’ve basically not been picked because you’re not liked.” And the reason I’m not liked is because I told our manager, and by extension those players, exactly where he and they could go in trying to tell me where I could change and shower.

Hang on so Mouncey was left out not because of Mouncey's use of women's showers, but because of Mouncey's reaction to being told not to shower with the women?

Is that the only reason people don't like Mouncey?

Purpleartichoke · 09/12/2019 18:17

My take on the article is that the excuse offered by the coach was so it wouldn’t be obvious the issue was the presence of male genitalia.

Lowbrow · 09/12/2019 18:23

HM is 6’ 4” 195cm and weighs 15st 10lb 99kg. Not an even playing field having to be tackled by a male of that size. It’s dangerous and women should walk off the field when expected to compete against a team or opponent that allows trans women. Also an unfair advantage for the team that has mix sex players.

Voice0fReason · 09/12/2019 23:31

It would also be letting down the 331 trans women we know of who were murdered last year simply because they were trans.
This is a lie. Most were murdered because they live in a dangerous country with a high murder rate and were sex workers. Very few (if any) were murdered simply because they were trans.

let down the 48 per cent of trans young people who have attempted suicide at some point in their lives
More lies. This figure is a complete fabrication.

So glad he has been excluded. Of course women don't want him in the shower with them or changing with them or playing sport together! He is male.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 09/12/2019 23:49

So, we can infer that the women have said 'we don't want you changing or showering with us' and he said 'no, I want to ignore your clear boundaries and shower with you whether you like it or not'.

If they didn't want to shower with him before, I bet they're even keener to avoid now. He doesn't seem to understand the concept of a woman saying no.

And yes to the PP who said he seems to think forcing women to do something they don't want to do against their will is much more important than playing for his country.

Good on that team manager.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 09/12/2019 23:58

People will do what's easy over what's right

Indeed, Hannah, they often do, resulting in people like you getting your way. Luckily this time they decided to do what's right instead.

Durgasarrow · 10/12/2019 03:46

Mademoiselle passed the fitness tests with relative ease? No shit sherlock.

Durgasarrow · 10/12/2019 05:08

That picture of Mouncey throwing her ladyship at a woman with kneebraces was truly terrifying. Jesus H. Christ.

Datun · 10/12/2019 06:49

I'm quite glad that Mouncey doesn't have the sense to keep their trap shut.

Telling women how angry you are that you can't violate their boundaries is a direct and frequent consequence of this ideology.

Which is why assuring women that you will deal with any crime committed does not address the issue.

Mouncey's arrogant, aggressive, domineering, entitled attitude is far more common.

The fact that Mouncey can't see it is their undoing.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 06:59

Telling people that their not meekly allowing you to violate their boundaries makes you angry makes the whole "yeah but crime would be dealt with" thing meaningless, because if you've already made it clear that you don't think other people should be allowed to have boundaries then clearly you are operating on a very different definition of what a crime is to almost everyone else.

Silencedwitness · 10/12/2019 07:54

Funny how people like HM are always lesbians as well. No woman should be forced to shower with HM it’s the same as being asked to shower with any other biological male. The sheer entitlement is appalling.
