I'm in Wales and had been hoping I could vote Plaid Cymru, whose manifesto contains excellent statements and policies to support women.
But, like the other political parties, they don't actually know what a woman is, and have undermined all the positive steps they'd take with this:
"Plaid Cymru will support the reform of the Gender Recognition Act to
introduce a streamlined, de-medicalised process. We will support efforts to reform the Equality Act to include ‘gender identity’ as a protected characteristic and to remove the use of the terms ‘gender reassignment’ and ‘transsexual’ from the Act."
I'm afraid mine is going to be a spoiled ballot paper, with "Woman = Adult Human Female" written on it.

True. Early studies have shown though that it poses little risk for male to female transitioning and a possible increased risk of low bone density and cardiovascular events for female to male transitioning. A larger study is currently ongoing.

There are studies that have shown risk for MTFs taking oestrogen.

JanesKettle · 30/11/2019 00:13

It happens anyway

This is an appalling statement.

OccasionalKite · 30/11/2019 00:17

I am not particularly concerned about transgender metaphysics bollocks.

This is politics.

Plaid Cymru:

Are women = women?

Or do women have to include men as well?

Yes or no, Plaid Cymru?

Ereshkigal · 30/11/2019 00:25

Apologies Kite yes I am sure lots of people would like a clear answer about this from Plaid Cymru.

OccasionalKite · 30/11/2019 00:35

Still have not had an answer from Plaid Cymru on whether women=women
or "men=women, if the men say so."

I say bollocks to men being women if those men say they are women. Why are political parties chucking women under a bus?

I'm Welsh and come from a very Plaid voting area. I would like to be in the room when political parties decide their stance on these issues. If what I've read on this forum is true about Plaid and their stance on this issue, then I think they are out of touch with the majority of their Welsh voters. This seems to have been drafted up to appeal to a Cardiff demographic but seriously, seriously doubt that many salt-of-the earth Welsh people would be very amused with transgender ideology. Maybe it's me that's out of touch lol? Anyone here who is Welsh & can comment on this?

Plaid Cymru Manifesto

This is the relevant bit, on page 39 of 45 of the pdf, numbered page 77 (section on equality):

Plaid Cymru will support the reform of the Gender Recognition Act to introduce a streamlined, de-medicalised process. We will support efforts to reform the Equality Act to include ‘gender identity’ as a protected characteristic and to remove the use of the terms ‘gender reassignment’ and ‘transsexual’ from the Act.

Neome · 30/11/2019 12:10

Genius, Women's toilets and separate Female toilets also gender neutral toilets. Loads more toilets. Any fule can see by the queues that people want all of these and a few more.

OldCrone · 30/11/2019 12:15

What they don't explain is which of the existing protected characteristics 'gender identity' is going to replace. If they want to remove 'gender reassignment' from the EA, it will presumably replace that protected characteristic. But what about sex? Do they want to have both 'gender identity' and 'sex' protected, or do they intend to remove 'sex' as well? Some of the other parties seem to be in favour of removing 'sex' as well as 'gender reassignment' and replacing both with 'gender identity'.

I wonder what they mean by 'a streamlined, de-medicalised process'? Currently, I believe the only 'medical' process required is a letter from a doctor to say that the person suffers from gender dysphoria.

SirVixofVixHall · 30/11/2019 12:26

I am Welsh, I think most people I meet assume we are talking about old school transsexuals, and feel they should be kind and accepting. The public at large seem to have no idea what this means in reality, honestly. I have had people tell me that their THIRTEEN YEAR OLD CHILD has told them all about it and it is like gay rights.....also people tell me that their daughters (students) are feminists and say that TWAW etc. It is a mess of misinformation, driven by people with no experience of what it can mean to need a single sex space, eg men, or very young females who want to look cool.

Littlecloud19 · 30/11/2019 17:12

@Wondersense I'm Welsh, from.a Welsh speaking family and agree.
The problem is, most Plaid voters are going to be blissfully unaware of the implications and I wouldn't want to stick my head above the parapet and question it on social media etc for obvious reasons. But, I doubt that most Cymry Cymraeg would support it if they realised.

Maybe because they don’t feel safe anywhere due to the levels of hate crimes against trans people. They may see it more as using the space they feel most comfortable in

But, unfortunately, that would in many cases, be at expense of biological women who would feel uncomfortable with men or transwomen being in female space.
And, unfortunately for transwomen (over 80% of whom retain male genetalia) their rights need to stop where mine begin.

BertrandRussell · 30/11/2019 18:30

“ Maybe because they don’t feel safe anywhere due to the levels of hate crimes against trans people.”
I’m not saying there aren’t. But are there a lot of hate crimes against trans people? Is it recorded?

mejon · 30/11/2019 20:14

SirVix - Ben Lake is my MP too. I've also written to him twice about this issue and heard nothing. The 2nd time, I also copied in Liz Saville Roberts as she is the PC leader in the House of Commons as well as Adam Price. Nothing from any of them. I've given up.

From what I see on Twitter, many of those very voiciferous in their support for the trans ideology are young and located in the capital. Those who've expressed an alternative view have been vilified and attacked.

koshkat · 30/11/2019 20:18

A 'hate crime' against a transperson might be correctly identifying their sex, no?

PinaGrigio · 30/11/2019 20:30

Arsebiscuits. I was hoping to be able to vote Plaid as our local Plaid MP is a great local MP and we're in a Plaid - Labour marginal. OH & I went to see him about self-ID before and got a very GC sympathetic hearing. I honestly have no idea what to do now and I'm so, so disappointed.

SirVixofVixHall · 30/11/2019 23:37

I was hoping to vote Plaid too. Otherwise they are the party I feel is the best fit for me, so genderbollocks is a huge disappointment.
