Right now

Came on to say this!

FlamingoAndJohn · 14/11/2019 07:14

Literally just turned it on.

Fozzleyplum · 14/11/2019 07:15

Am listening. Luciana Berger completely unprepared and not answering Nick Robinson's question.

FlamingoAndJohn · 14/11/2019 07:15

She’s not coming across well.

He said ‘if I now say I’m a woman then the law should treat me as such’. She replied ‘yes’.

poshme · 14/11/2019 07:15

Nick Robinson good questions. Direct and to the point- 'if I identify as a women the Lib Dem's day I should be treated as one?' 'Yes'
But what about the hard won rights of women? Etc.

FlamingoAndJohn · 14/11/2019 07:17

I like that he put across the concerns women have.

TheCuriousMonkey · 14/11/2019 07:17

Aghh, so disappointed in Luciana Berger. She said that Nick Robinson could identify as a woman and be treated in law as a woman. Then failed to answer questions about competing rights.

poshme · 14/11/2019 07:17

He also asked about male sex offenders in women's prisons, and someone being refused membership - Luciana Berger didn't know about the membership thing.
He said 'doesn't sex and biology come into it at it?' At one point.

BovaryX · 14/11/2019 07:17

Do you think this is in a response to yesterday’s excellent article in The Times? That the Lib Dems are getting explicitly asked about this issue?

poshme · 14/11/2019 07:18

LDs are focussing on equalities today.

TheCuriousMonkey · 14/11/2019 07:19

Nick Robinson has done stuff on this before. His extended interview with Paris Lees is very interesting.

BovaryX · 14/11/2019 07:19

The fact that Berger is floundering when being challenged on the myriad inconsistencies of this shows how ill thought out their policies are

PaleBlueMoonlight · 14/11/2019 07:20

Wow! She kept saying there are challenges, but gave no indication of what they are or how they would be tackled. Great questioning but should have pushed a lot harder.

MarshaBradyo · 14/11/2019 07:21

I’m not voting for them having heard that.

Macareaux · 14/11/2019 07:22

She didn't like having to defend that. Well done Nick Robinson. Two years ago the BBC would never have asked such direct questions.
PULLLLLLL

boatyardblues · 14/11/2019 07:23

I’ve just discovered how easy it is to roll a programme back on BBC Sounds, especially when MNers have helpfully provided the time stamp. Luciana Berger is all over the place.

TheCuriousMonkey · 14/11/2019 07:23

In thought Luciana's choice of words was interesting. She used the past tense for the campaign for women's rights, as though that work is done. She did the same vis a vis racism which was surprising given her personal experience.

boatyardblues · 14/11/2019 07:23

Go Nick!

BovaryX · 14/11/2019 07:24

The paucity of modern politicos is incredible to behold. Meaningless platitudes, capitulation to whatever is trending on Twitter and a media which lets them trot out nonsense without robust challenge

Macareaux · 14/11/2019 07:24

And as an aside - at some point the libdems are going to have to realise that's it's a choice between Corbyn and Johnson.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/11/2019 07:29

Thank you! I half caught this as I was making the coffee (it was terrible as some onion managed to get into the pot😳) so I just caught parts, but yes, it sounded like a shit storm.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 14/11/2019 07:30

This is the moment. I am not involved in WPUK or Fair Play for Women. I am not one of the amazing academics or respected feminists with media presence, but if there was ever a day for then getting on the radio/TV with direct talking and simple explanations, then this is it.

OP posts:
Trewser · 14/11/2019 07:32

Thanks Nick. I agree this direct questioning wouldn't have happened a couple of years ago. Even dh who isnt that interested in Gc issues thought she sounded ridiculous.

Trewser · 14/11/2019 07:34

I really hope a LD candidate comes to my door! They won't, we live in the middle of nowhere. I might email my local candidate though and say why I won't vote for them

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 14/11/2019 07:34

The more I think about PIE and the likes of Harriet Harman the more my blood boils.

People jump on bandwagons and back any pony they think will help them get ahead (and don’t care if they damage people along the way) and are rehabilitated/wait until people forget.

I have the memory of an elephant.
