Another rough sex defence

I'm really at a loss to comprehend what has happened to the jury here, I'm speechless. Juries no longer serve justice.

And my (D)H's response to that was 'don't believe everything you read'.

Makes me sick. What are they thinking?

Voice0fReason · 05/11/2019 22:28

I don't understand. How can any sane person see that he attacked her.

Fraggling · 05/11/2019 22:33

Wtaf

Fandoozle1 · 05/11/2019 22:37

There are no words.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 05/11/2019 22:42

That actually makes me feel sick. Unusual because she is not dead.

Doyoumind · 05/11/2019 22:43

Unbelievable and yet I'm not surprised because it's yet another story of a man getting away with violent sexual behaviour with the 'she wanted it' defence.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 05/11/2019 22:43

Even if someone does ask you to do things like that to them, and we all know that she didn't and he's lying, you can and should say no. The misogyny that it takes for a jury to go "ah, well, women are always asking men to strangle them, stamp on them and slash them up with knives, eh?" is terrifying.

BarbaraStrozzi · 05/11/2019 22:44

This is lunacy.

I can only assume that the man was indeed tried by a jury of his peers - his fellow women haters.

Fraggling · 05/11/2019 22:46

'Unusual because she is not dead.'

So even worse than usual as she gave evidence saying he attacked her, and a neighbour gave evidence they heard him making violent threats.

Again, wtf

MissOrganisedMe · 05/11/2019 22:48

This is fucking horrific.
Elliott, from Cwmbran, was found not guilty of all the charges against him after a week-long trial.
How?! Just. How.
That's not justice.

madcatladyforever · 05/11/2019 22:50

Or masons. What the fuck!

pallisers · 05/11/2019 22:53

how on earth was he not convicted???

A woman runs into the street, ask strangers for help, has horrible injuries and the police find her attacker frothing and aggressive ... and no, it was just rough sex gone wrong and she was the one who wanted the rough.

How has this happened to women????

sakura06 · 05/11/2019 22:56

WTAF. 'Not guilty on all charges.' Seriously.

sakura06 · 05/11/2019 22:57

This is just utterly sickening.

BadgertheBodger · 05/11/2019 22:57

I just don’t understand this. It’s horrific. Even if that poor girl was so mentally ill she begged to be strangled, battered and slashed with a knife (and I don’t believe that for a single fucking second) it is not acceptable to do that to anyone

Christ. I’m just lost for words. Basically telling men they can do as they please, for no harm will ever come to them. I just hope he doesn’t go on to kill another woman Angry

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 05/11/2019 23:14

What did I just read?
She had knife slash marks on her back, black eyes, swollen face, bruising on arms and legs, was naked looking for help in the street.
Him shouting come back or I'll get a butcher Knife and skin you alive.
Frothing at the mouth when police offices arrived.
Can someone explain how he was cleared of all charges? Anyone, please. Because I can't anymore I can't make sense of all this.
I came to mumsnet 3 years ago because I was having trouble breastfeeding and now all I learn is how much our world hates women.
It's everywhere and it's heartbreaking.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 05/11/2019 23:16

Appalling decision. I feel incredibly sad for the victim, anger the perpetrator and outrage at the jury.

ChattyLion · 05/11/2019 23:26

This site keeps a record of such cases in memory of the women killed by men wecantconsenttothis.uk/
Perhaps this case could be recorded even though this poor woman thankfully survived?

Imnobody4 · 05/11/2019 23:28

The law really must change, rough sex shouldn't be allowed as a defence. This is just going to get worse as porn normalises brutality and torture.

OP posts:
Lessthanzero · 05/11/2019 23:28

I'm so confused by that article. Even the police said he was aggressive when they got there.

But he was cleared on the basis she asked to be strangled and then she beat herself up. How did she slash her own back?

The law needs to be changed so that it's always illegal to hit or strangle or injur someone, or do somthing that is likely to injure someone. How it is now is just giving thugs a get out of jail free card. They can beat women with impunity. Even if the women were asking to be beaten (which I'm sure they're not) no decent man would actually do it.

This is madness.

Driechdrizzle · 05/11/2019 23:53

"And my (D)H's response to that was 'don't believe everything you read'."

Divorce him.

Another woman flees for her life, naked. That is primal fear right there. This man is so dangerous, it's terrifying he's walking amongst us.

Driechdrizzle · 06/11/2019 00:04

Then there are these fuckwits who come on here claiming they like being strangled or beaten up by their male sexual partners. If my sexual preferences were providing men with excuses to get away with sadistically attacking their partners, I'd give them up, not publicly boast about them.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 06/11/2019 00:05

.*as porn normalises brutality and torture
That's is isn't it?
There was a thread a few days ago about a a group that are campaining to save the ocean that have partnered with pornhub. They are advertising on a porn site. I will try find the thread and link it for others that didn't see it.
as porn normalises brutality and torture it's true and it's everywhere.

Lookingsparkly · 06/11/2019 00:09

HOW was he found not guilty?

Backinthecloset123 · 06/11/2019 00:49

I feel ill. Can the police/prosecutors challenge this.

I'm in NZ and there is a case before the courts now, about a UK tourist killed here in NZ. I can't say more but, I feel ill again.
